Sorry! But virgin do say that with a manned installation their "man in a van" will bring the equipment required! Maybe they really do only have male installers???

how do u opt out of the installation.

never ever had cable- still be liable for installation?

Hi, I am not going to take up this offer as i have just started on the 3 for £30 so my broadband is only £10 anyway, but i would i still be able to save on quidco? Ie stop paying by direct debit and go through quidco instead?

Quidco is only available at the point of purchase (its a referral site)

I had no idea you could "self install", is the option actually available online? worth it for ppl who already have cable wired to their house already

WOMEN know your role! lol:giggle:

I used to have Telewest 4mb broadband, (before TW and NTL became Virgin Media) and the service was extremely unreliable (south london area). It would be off at least a couple of times every months for 1 or even 2 days at the time. Very frustrating, this is one of the reasons why I moved the whole package to Sky.

Other people I know had similar bad experiences with NTL as well. This was a few months ago. Things might have improved, or service better in other areas, but I would personally not use them again.

I have had Telewest/ Virgin for 7+ years and I can only recall two occasions when the broadband hasn't work.

One Christmas when their head end got flooded and the lot failed another was when someone in Bristol cut the main fibre cable to the Westcountry cutting the lot out!

Other than that I have had an first class service, always get the speed I pay for.

I doubt that they will allow you have self installation as Its a cable broadband and they have complete setup procedure which is pain in the neck . there service is almost reliable. for me it went offline only once and it was off for whole town so cant complain much

Can't see the option for self install during checkout?

If Ntl cable (as in the coaxial wire) has never been fed into your home from the street then no way to avoid the installation charge, unless you can convince them to drop the charge, but installlation to your house usually involves some laying of cable underground from street through garden to NTL box mounted on your outside wall, then into you home to the internal NTL box, so for £25 it is pretty good value, just have a rough idea on how you want the cable ran inside your house as the engineer will probably do it for quickness rather than neatness unless told otherwise.

Are you sure you get the £55 referral for just broadband subscriptions. It says it is for packages. Has it tracked for anyones order?

my virgin tracked for £55 but not validated or anything yet. i've just read it, i cant believe that there was an option for free installation! when the virgin man... it was a man did ours, he just plugged it into the cable wall we already had. i was a bit miffed to have paid £25 for it (less £10 for doing it online but that gets added to our account).
anyways, one you have set it up its ok, but its ideal to see if the installation guy will stay till its hooked up and working, coz their customers service is rubbish! i had to speak to 4 different people before they changed my pin and i got the internet working! but i spose you get wot you paid for and being students, we want cheap over the best! lol

Am I right that this has an 18-month minimum contract though? So, you'd need to factor that into the cost?

Banned

no its a 12month contract- vm dont do 18m contracts

Virgin Media cabled streets only, subject to network capacity, 12 month minimum term contract. Money back guarantee: Call us within 30 days of installation for a refund of 1st month's rental charges and any installation charge. You will only be charged for transactions (calls, purchases, service upgrades) occurring after installation. Statutory rights not affected. Offer: 2Mb broadband at £10 a month for 12 months. After 12 months, standard prices (currently £18 apply. Available to new customers and existing non-broadband customers. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. Minimum computer requirements apply.

When I try to sign up for the 2MB service at £10 a month and after checking my post code I'm offered Plan 3 a 1MB service at £14.99 or Plan 2 a 8MB at £17.99

virgin.net/all…ed/

Does this mean that the 2MB is not available? Is there a Virgin 0800 number?

Cheers,

Martin

Hi!

Just got through to Virgin and the £10 offer is for cable customers only!

Martin

My contract ran out in April and I phoned them in May to try and get the £10 a month offer. They told me that they wouldnt give me that offer unless I'd been disconnected for at least 3 months.

Has anyone who is currently out of contract but still paying £18 a month, tried to get this offer? If so, how did you get on?

on the website go to existing customer offers and sign up for the deal through their. seems to allow it there

I don't know where they find their engineers from, but all the houses I've seen (and that's a lot in my job) have had TERRIBLE installations. There's no way I would let these people loose with a drill anywhere near my walls! AVOID!

get UKonline broadband through your bt line.... very reliable and although 1mbit for 9.99 i've just haggled them down to giving me three months for free as i've been with them for a year.
