Virgin media 60meg broadband upgrade with free superhub for £2.50

57
Found 7th Jan 2014
Not wanting to hijack the other Virgin media deal posted but thought i'd share.
Logged into my account today and under the my offers tab , said i could upgrade to 60meg broadband for initial £2.50 for 6 months then £5 per month after that.
Also got the superhub chucked in for free.
Another good way to get a new superhub 2 with super quick broadband.
Worth a try if your an existing customer.

Says offer expired 5th Jan but called them today and they still honoured that price

If you can get the super hub upgrade free isn't it worth just waiting for the upgrade to 50mb later in the year, save the extra cash bet you won't notice the 10mb speed difference

Original Poster

Cant get superhub for free on the other deal , you have to pay £20 courier/self install charge and then still only getting 30meg
Also 30 meg speed won't be doubled i believe

Well the 60mb customers are being upgraded to 100 if I remember correctly

I hope I'm getting upgraded for free to 100mb! Also I got the super hub 2 for free, no £20 or £50 charge, if your on 6b it's free

True but you then have to pay the new amount per month once the £2.50 amount moves to the normal price, if you want just the 60mb, then stick with 30 and get 50 later in the year and don't pay the extra There has been comments about getting free superhubs without the delivery charge on the other thread.

I got the superhubs 2 without the delivery charge on 30 mb , just tell them you would leave if they ask you the charge.

I would like join virgin anybody know when do they do best deals in the year ?
Or how to go about to get a good deal.inly looking for basic package

Meanwhile, in the real world, most of us are stuck on 1Mbit lines...

Nice if you don't mind being locked into another 12 or 18 month contract (depending on package).

wouldn't go back to virgin unless it was free. what good is superfast speed when they reduce it as soon as you download anything and at peak times, worst of all the amount of drop outs when gaming online spoils the game. i hope they have improved. im happy with 10mbs of constant speed with no dropouts.

I phoned them today and got the new super hub 2 no installation fee just £5.99, bargain in my eyes, and was going to upgrade to the 60mb but got told they are going to be upgrading everyone from 30mb to 50mb for free so pointless wasting money on upgrading to 60mb.

Let me get that straight.

Upgrade from 30Mb to up to 60Mb

Order before 5th January 2014 to get £2.50 off a month for 6 months***

Increase your speed to up to 60Mb
Get all this from just £2.50 extra a month for the first 6 months and from £5 extra a month after that.

So it is not £2.50 but £2.5 x 6 + £5 x 6 = £45 more a year, saving £15 from the normal price.

I was thinking about moving to virgin for broadband what's everyone opinion. I need something which doesn't cut out and very reliable as work from home

Cable internet has been pretty much rock solid for me for about 8 years of working from home, although most of that is ssh rather than rdc

traffic management halves the speed if you hit your limit during peaks times so even if you're on 30mb you would only drop to 15mb which is still faster than 10! never had a problem with gaming online either.

same here. got mine last year when I rung up to get a deal on my package. asked for 60mb and explained only really wanted it for the super hub2 as first one was rubbish. agent offered me a monthly reduction to stay with 30mb and threw in free sh2 anyway, free delivery and free self install. i wasnt even at end of contract.

My Virgin broadband has been rock solid for years.

If you want to Torrent or Newsgroup 10's of GB of data a day then look elsewhere - VM's Traffic Managemebt will annoy you.

If, like me, you watch Netflix, NBA and download the occasional album, it's awesome. For £22/mo it's faster at 30Mbps than I need and very reliable.

mates rates only work if you are taking out an extra service. if you already have phone, tv and bb then they can't do anything

I would say have a chat with them, either via instant chat or phone, tell them your a sky customer and your unhappy with them, I would imagine soon as you say that it's their primary objective to give you the best deal/discount codes/whatever they can do to transfer you over to them

Has anybody left vm due to the increase to the charges? Can we do this ?

I get 60MB at the moment, does anyone know if they are going to be doubling that (for free)?

Do you have 60mb as part of a package, or standalone BB? All the promotions seem to be for 30mb +phone etc. Did you get a good deal?

mrwhitelabel

That's only for the download, the upload is up to 65% reduction.

Unless of course you're on the older packages like a friend of mine - he's on the 20mb package, and if he triggers the traffic management, he has to put up with 75% reduction in both directions.

All traffic management figures are here if it's any help:

Should have received a letter explaining the increase , you get 30 days from that date to cancel if u want.
I dont remember getting one but i probably stuck it straight in the shredder along with all the other junk mail they send
Don't mind because they've frozen my prices for another year today

got an email a while back saying that my 30MB BB was due to be upgraded around june 14 onwards. have just checked again and says it is:-

Your broadband boost is coming!

We’re upgrading the network in your area and your speed boost will be ready between June 2014 and November 2014.
You don’t need to do a thing and we’ll contact you as soon as it’s ready.

"Your speed will increase from up to 30Mb broadband to up to 50Mb broadband"

With our up to 50Mb broadband, your speed will be typically up to seven times faster than the UK's regular broadband average#. And with unlimited downloads**, you'll never need to worry about hidden charges for using too much.

**Acceptable use policy applies. Download speeds may be affected by Traffic Managment measures from 4pm to 11pm weekdays and 11am to 11pm at weekends. Heavy users may experience a temporary reduction in download speed during these periods, however users can continue to download without any interruption or charge at the reduced speeds, and are not subject to a monthly download limit. Traffic management measures are in place to ensure a consistent user experience and impact only the heaviest users (typically less than 5% a day). Read more about our traffic management policy.

were you using the superhub and wifi in your home? If so, then the problem was almost certainly your superhub which doesn't even qualify as a netgear seconds - its the worst cable modem router ever made.

if you have a superhub the best fix is to get a decent router, oddly like netgear's r6300 and put the vm superhub into modem mode or get some homeplugs and link your kit via those instead of wifi. the problem is that the superhub has an awful antennae for wifi.

Wouldn't really call this a deal as the normal price to move up a broadband tier is £5 so it's not really a saving, your paying to upgrade something ?

In our area, VM has gone down 5 times in the last 6 months (2 of which were reported to have been national problems). Also, be aware that their upload speeds are much slower than some of their competitors. I get 30mb download and only 2Mb upload.

I want a million meg and I want it now. Fed up of crawling along at a paltry 100 Mbps. Gimmee, gimmee, gimmee I need my fix.
