Found 7th Sep 2013
Been looking for Broadband for my student home and found that Virgin is probably the best bet.

Cost is £22.50 a month for 30Mb and unlimited usage for just 9 months plus £49.95 set up fee. Which is perfect for students.

So after some searching I found that Topcashback are giving £79.80!

There are other deals on the page which may be of use to non-students. These are:

= 6 Months half price and up to £100 off on Collections + £79.80 cashback

= Get £75 off and 6 month half price on the Premiere Collection. BT Sport and ESPN included! + £79.80 cashback

= Get Free TV & Tivo + 6 months half price with Superfast Fibre Optic broadband and calls + £79.80 cashback

= Student deals! 9 month Superfast Fibre Optic broadband, phone and TV contracts + £79.80 cashback

My first post here so hope it helps someone.

BEWARE of Virgin Media online contract for students requiring a 36 week only sign-up. WE did this last September expecting the contract to terminate on June 30th 2013. When we queried why VM had taken a July payment from my daughter's account (the modem and TV box had been returned in June and signed for at the local VM office) they said we hadn't provided the 1 month's notice to end the contract and that anyway the MINIMUM contract they will do online is 12 months!
I suggest before you grab their latest offer get in writing the method of ending the contract and follow it carefully.

So you didn't cancel and got charged? And this is someone else's fault?

Any suggestions of a better deal?

The point being made is that their online talk is of the deal being for students wanting a 9 month contract but in reality you are being sold a 12 month contract PLUS it's never as simple as for instance buying a 12 month car tax disc where the contract really does end after 12 months. With VM and all of the mobile network suppliers you have to fight and go through hoops and usually pay additional money to actually walk away!

For my daughter's upcoming year we have signed up with Talktalk (no fibre-optics in her road in her
new city and she needs a 12 month contract)

go for sky if you don't have virgin media available . virgin media is the best as its fiber optic cable , best for gaming and downloading with no loss . i get 9mb upload and 90-95mb downloads with virgin with almost 0-20 ping on many gaming servers

its the same with every contract , could be mobile , broadband etc they don't auto cancel ! its in every company's terms and conditions that the term they offer there services for is the minimum contract and can be cancelled after .

Not a good deal at all, I pay £35 Per month for Talk Unlimted+Caller Display and 120Mbit BB.

i know personal advertisement is not allowed but i can get you free installation so it works out only 22.50 pm

Get recommended by someone already on VM and you will get free installation and friend gets £50 deducted from their bill

ye that's what I meant .. ?

Minimum term 9 months student contract is openly available as an online signup here:
store.virginmedia.com/bro…tml
I appreciate there is a learning curve for you and your daughter, but the signup page does specifically state it is a minimum term (not a fixed term) hence the requirement to give notice to terminate:
9-month student contract: 9-month contract not available for purchase until June 2013. Cabled streets only. Subject to survey and network capacity. Minimum term contract of 9 months applies. 9-month contracts not available on TiVo® service, up to 100Mb broadband service and V+ TV service.

£50 off your bill for referrals requires a minimum of 12 months contract, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
