Virgin Media Broadband 50Mbps/70Mbps customers - upgrade to 100Mbps for free

I'm currently paying £32.25pm for 70Mbps Virgin Media Broadband, I also receive a £15pm loyalty discount each month bringing the price down to £17.25pm.

VM have recently got rid of their 50 and 70Mbps broadband and their lowest basic package is now 100Mbps - for £32.25pm, the same as what I'm paying for 70Mbps.

I got on live chat with VM and asked if I could upgrade to the 100Mbps as it's the same price and they said no problem. My £15pm discount also carries across and I don't start a new 12 months contract (my contract remains the same - 6 months left).

I actually opted to upgrade to 200Mbps as it was only £5pm extra - with my discount it's £22.25pm.

Hope this helps some people

After years of threatening to leave the great Satan that is Virgin Media, albeit just to the wife and family, i shook myself from my lethargy and told vm to poke their recent price rise up to £46pm and joined plusnet for £25pm (BB+basic phone). I felt epic....oh yeah who's the daddy now dicky branson, you weaselly faced tax dodger. The family suddenly looked on me with previously withheld admiration and i was fist pumped by colleagues at work for being "that guy"....I was a baller!!!! All for 2 days until "Lewis" phoned me up and offered me £25pm for 200mb BB + evenings and weekends.

I've let my colleagues down, I've let my family down but most of all I've let myself down. Forgive me for being this weak.....
Why can't VM just automatically upgrade people?
Longstanding and loyal customers always get screwed over

Cheers for posting though op.

I did think this myself. But it's the same with Sky, to get a good discount you need to be proactive...
Great if they don't increase your package price, remove your loyalty discount or put you on a new contract. Personally I am happy to stay on 70Mbps and not risk them messing it up as it's a real pain getting things sorted out via their customer support when they do get things wrong.

I've got a copy of my transcript in which the adviser 100% confirms my discount carries across and my contract remains the same (I don't start a new 12 month contract). If VM try anything I've got that to fall back on
How do you get a loyalty discount ?

you have to ask to speak to the customer loyalty team. when you ring the service line and get the multiple choice questions choose the "I'm thinking about leaving" number. I got a discount on the line rental saver when I complained about the amount the price had gone up from the year before. if you don't ask you don't get.
Thank you so much. Read your post 15 mins ago. Been on Live Chat. Boom 100Mbps, free of charge.
Just checked - 94.71 Mbps and 6.1 Mbps upload (both have now doubled from what I was getting up to 5 mins ago.
Thank you
Do you get anew router if upgrading? I'm on Superhub 2 (I think) and it keeps dropping out so am on the verge of trying something else anyway.
£22 for 200mb? They're charging me £64 a month.

The standard price for 200Mbps is £37.25 a month. £64 is absolutely insane!

Pride's not everything...but fast broadband is, so don't feel so bad about it.
This is what I got on my welcome screen when log in:

Your speed boost is complete!
Your connection speed is now up to 50Mbps.
We've upgraded your speed so you can enjoy more of what you love to do online.

hmm..

PS. I pay 25.80 for 50Mb and phone but called to cancel ..

Isn't the loyalty discount just the term of your contract
I pay 25.25 for 70mbps. So it's different with everybody I guess

I do wish when people posted how much they were paying VM they posted … I do wish when people posted how much they were paying VM they posted their full package as simply stating their BB speed is only half the picture. We pay £43 for Telephone: XLTV: MBB: L (We were upgraded to 70MB from 50MB in Nov 2016 but had to sign a new contract)

Everybody was getting the free upgrade without the need to take out a contract
I'm paying £20 for 100mb

I'm shocked to hear about £15 per month loyalty discounts! I thought mine was pretty good at £3 per month!!!
I'm paying £28.xx a month for 150mb. How did you get that much off !!!????
just started a new plan 200mb internet, phone (but who needs it), and tv (never watch) for 37/month less 50 referral credit and 100 Amazon voucher - effectively 25/mo
tv player pack, 100mb, phone package, £50 acc credit......£20pm......big cheers
Worst ISP in the universe. Incredibly bad customer service and a network that is almost always oversubscribed.

Went to IDnet after 3 years f Virgin screwing me. It is glorious.

Dicky Branson really won't give 2 hoots as he is not involved with Virgin media nor has he been for a number of years now. Ownership is with Liberty Global
Thanks OP, great info. Took me 10 minutes on Virgin Chat and a super hub3 reboot, so I've now gone from 50mbps to 107mbs plus double upload speed. Nice one and Free too!

yes same with me
Just been on live chat and got nothing. I would lose my existing discounts and it would go up to £45. I get 50mb plus basic phone and tv for £15 a month including line rental so can't complain too much I guess.

I stand corrected, dick branson ex-virgin media weaselly faced tax dodger.
Our loyalty discount has slowly creeped down each time i renew. Was £11, then £8, currently £5. Rental saver runs out Mid June, and we're already out of contract. I'm cancelling mid May.
I'm paying £39.25 and thats with the £6 loyalty discount.. Should be £45.25... This is for the 200mb, lucky if I get 70mb sometimes and been like this since October 2016 most of the time the fastest I can get is 20mb.... All you get are upgrades in your area so thats why its slow......Will be leaving them when contracts up in 2 months...

When i called this week i got nowhere fast. So come 30 days b4 our line rental ends ill be cancelling. But i must say our 50mb is always 50mb. Ethernet and wifi. But we have the hub 3 in modem and a proper router with proper range and signal strength.
We're paying 30 for the 100 means we should get an upgrade surely

New as in new customer? Or new plan existing customer?
@ siblades

Just seen your post about Virgin media. Do you think you could do me a huge favour and share a print screen of your loyalty discount from your account?

Obviously just the bit at the bottom without your personal details.

Like this: http://image.prntscr.com/image/e22d091c08ae4361bdc4335ea7be6d46.png

I tried phoning them to get a deal and the guy was rude and useless...

Have now played their bluff and have given them 1 month cancellation notice!

Thanks again for your post, it really got me thinking about saving money with them!

Cheers
