Update 1
You can check eligibility online HERE (Thanks elliott_s)
Starting today, Virgin Media customers are able to swap their current box for the latest V6 model for free!

2882691.jpg

Previously, Virgin had asked for £20 for the privilege, and this was restricted to certain subscription types also. This has now been scrapped, and customers will be contacted over the next few weeks to offer them the upgrade.

Virgin say it is one of the 'largest customer upgrade programmes' ever carried out in the UK.

In order to get the upgrade, you'll need to contact Virgin Media directly, or wait for details of the upgrade to come through your door

Hopefully this helps someone!

When upgrading to this box does this start a new contract with them?
You can check online if you're eligible for the offer - store.virginmedia.com/exi…ity

Looks like they'll upgrade you to Virgin Media Hub 3 if required too (for free). My order included both.

Wouldnt appear so...

"Just swapping your TV box? The figure shown above is your current monthly cost and, along with your package and contract, will remain exactly the same as before."
I paid full whack for this about a year ago because I was really excited about being able to stream content from the box. I follow MMA and I don't like to watch it when the kids are around, but the idea was to stream it to a tablet, it was literally the only reason I got the box. Unfortunately when trying to stream these events I am told that they are not able to be streamed due to rights restrictions ;_;

Yes I know I can be a filthy pirate if I want to, but I don't.

If you already have a V6 (like I do) and you also have another older box then you do not qualify for this free replacement

Have they fixed this? There were, lets be honest, a lot of teething issues with this and the new superhub required for it...

Thanks for that link just upgraded for free
Also thanks to OP for posting deal.
Have some heat
This will almost definitely will involve signing up for another 12 months, that would be typical of Virgin Media. If you're not planning on leaving them any time soon then go for it. As for myself, I'm going to ask them to match the cheapest deal for broadband/phone only (at a comparable speed), and leave if they don't match it. They seem to screw their long term customers the most it would seem. Been with them 16 years and they keep putting the price up, then I hear from friends that they have the exact same package at a significantly lower price.

Despite my beef above, the broadband package I have does perform well, and I have no complaints about the product itself.
Been with virgin for years,my monthly fee was £ 87 that was for everything,TiVo,phone and calls plus broadband,I was so fed up seeing the offers they were advertising for new customers,so I phoned them up and told them I wasn't happy, they upgraded the broadband and gave me a v6 box for £67 a month for 18 month when I asked why don't they contact loyal customers to offer them better deals they told me they can't it's up to the customer to phone up and said after the 18 month just phone them again and they will give me another deal,so if you are not happy with them give them a call to see what they can do,I'm sure they would do a deal they don'twant to lose customers.
This box is so much better than the old one. I rang up to cancel the other month as my bill went up, the lady on the phone sortes it and asked if she could help with anything else? I asked for one of these and they sent it straight out.
I've read people saying you need an ethernet connection, you don't! I use WiFi from upstairs using the Super Hub 3.
Well worth the upgrade if you watch a lot of on demand, netflix etc
this still charging according to the agent im talking to??
V6 box is a piece of (poo). The VM TV service is poor as opposed to Sky. Fast forwarding on the V6 only has one speed (on demand stuff). You can only stream on demand content, so if a show is about to expire you can't download it and save it to watch at a later date like you can with Sky.
On demand is poor and still no Sky Atlantic. The free BT sport with some packages is good and the broadband can't be faulted for performance. They just don't competitvely price it.

Yes, rumours are VM are migrating everyone to the V6 box to stop card sharing services
Also be careful upgrading if you have an AV amp and an older TV as you will get HDCP 2.2 problems as I did when i upgraded to V6.

This does not involve another contract of any length its a straight forward free upgrade as in No Money - No Contract Extension as in FREE.
I phoned them the other month and complained it kept going up and there and then my package was reduced.
Ring them if You are planning to leave You have nothing to lose.
got one thanks
Yeah I got a free upgrade on the Player TV package and the older TiVo box. It does NOT increase contract length at all according to the terms.
Although I would add the Hub 3 is terrible in so many ways to if you can keep your old Hub 2 or Hub2AC.

I've just had Virgin installed and am not happy with the picture quality, especially on sky movies and sports. I keep checking I'm actually on the HD channels! I still have Sky for a few weeks so am going to do a few tests to check it's not just me being paranoid. We did have Virgin for a few months a couple of years ago and I can't remember there being an issue back then.

For those of you who have had both would you say there is normally a quality difference between the V6 and Sky (not Q)?
Any easier to upgrade from the SuperHub 2 to the SuperHub 3 router for free?

Then again, Virgin Media has to have one of the worst customer services for a British company.
I have a TiVo on main TV and a V+ on small TV in dining room. Having a quick look, the website says that the V6 will replace the V+... good news! My question is, however, will I be able to put the 'old' TV with the small TV and put the new V6 on the main TV?

Upgrade?? I'd stick with the SuperHub 2. Wifi is shocking on 3. Constant drop out.
All done via Live Chat.

Will be glad to get rid of the Tivo box as its very slow compared to a Sky HD/Q box.
Anyone paying activation fees on these? Do they need the superhub 3 to work?
Just want to clarify that you absolutely can fast forward more than one speed...

I've got a V6, new customer though but I think it's pretty awesome.

Okay, is there talk of a SH4 on the cards then, if the SH3 is so bad?

Also, any advantages to this V6 set top box over the Tivo box i have now?

No problems with my SH3. Excellent coverage throughout my house. No dropouts at all.
