Virgin Media Retention deal. 100Mb broadband for £24.99 pm/ 12 months = £299.88 including line rental

Saw a deal at the weekend for home broadband in a Virgin Medis store for home broadband 100Mb without phone line at £24.99 per month. Only for new customers.
I rang to see if they would match the deal and was given a flat no, so I put in my 30 days notice. Today I received a call from their win back team and not only did they offer me the 100MB broadband for £24.99 but they threw in the telephone line rental free of charge too. Needless to say I snatched their hand off.

Interesting they are calling the telephone line rental free of charge, after today's news.

Awful. Had this installed, worked fine for the first two weeks then dropped to a crawl due to technical issues. I legged it within the cooling off period despite them calling to get me to stay (and then being outside the cooling off window).

A mate in London has the 50 meg deal, every evening it runs between 3-8meg, virgin are aware of the problem and offered half price for a month - he's had the problem for months.

Wouldn't recommend them, cold from me. They hook you in and after the 28 day cooling off period, you're stuck.

Very disappointing.

Actually my broadband comes through UNO. 80/20 and don't get me started on Sky... I dumped my Sky after the phone hacking nonsense.

This isn't news.. it's a proposal for a meeting thats not happened yet. I wouldn't be getting too excited about it if it was to happen, the Internet (unless your with Virgin) needs a landline to operate anyway.. and that will still need a maintenance+upkeep costs. They may scrap the name of "line rental" but they will either re name it or add the cost onto your Internet package.
voted hot. Never had a problem with Virgin and the retentions team are always open for a haggle.
I knew this was going to get voted cold.

Almost didn't post it but thought if someone benefits it's still worthwhile.

Haters are gonna hate
if they scrap it they will add the cost somewhere ele.
I got 100mb m+ tv tivo box caller id free evening and weekend calls £27-25 all in.So yours is not much of a deal.
I have had little issue with the services but I have had massive issue with the way they run treat customers.
I was outright lied to in order to keep my custom and then when I questioned it I was further lied to and told people at virgin would never say things like that. After a talk with management who listened to the recordings I was apologised to but won't ever use them again now knowing what lengths they go to. Thank goodness they had my conversations recorded.

Same story here. Bunch of liars.
I'm virgin customer , I'm on 100mb ........ Reality is I get 5-7mb and 0.4mb at night , no joke no lie. I've phoned countless times virgin to resolve this to be greeted with scripted off shore call centres.

I finally got through to virgin UK yesterday to be told the line is heavily over subscribed and there is no fix planned till after August.

No discounts given or some sort of a sweetener, £35.99 for dial up in effect if you want to use it during peak in Sheffield at least.

Is this a 12month contract or 18? Also what's the price after the promotional period?
I haven't paid full price for years, but I believe it to be £41.xx. It's a 12 month contract.

I've had virgin since it was telewest for 15 years with the odd 12 month break every now n then to try other providers . It's been by far the best UK internet since the dawn of the internet. I smell a rat...
Virgin are horrendous. My mobile didn't have a voicemail facility for some reason, rang them up to ask them to add it and they said they couldn't without me giving them my credit card details!

I politely told them to GTFO.

Have had virgin for over 2 years never had a problem yet. I'm on the 100meg and my speeds are always 105 meg. Just renegotiated mine for 27.99 including the line.
How long is the £24.99 for?

Why? Because somebody had a different experience to you, posted said experience and you don't like what's written?

This is a deal site, there are good and bad stories that help shape opinion. I voted cold, perhaps you should ask yourself why others have too.

I'm pleased you've got perfect broadband, that's nice and if I were in your shoes I would vote hot. But I wasn't, and virgin were dreadful. So its cold from me, no rat.

I'd cancel if I was you. You can cancel if still in contract if you arn't getting the speeds advertised.

They advertise speed in Mbps (Mega Bits) rather than MB, so 100 mega bits translates to 12.5 MB and that is in a perfect scenario with no interferences etc so your speed is fine, I'm on 200Mbps and I get around 7mb myself

if I'm not mistaken, the measurement unit for broadband is mbps. Some just shorten that to Mb.

I have been with Virgin for over 10years, due to ADSL speeds being a joke in my area. BT infinity seems to be a way off too. Oddly I live in the well populated SE, just lucky I guess. Their TV is bad, but the internet is fantastic. I cannot remember ever having an outage. I did have an argument over an old modem that wasn't up to the job. The engineer took one look at it and concurred with my assessment and replaced it. I hate the annual haggle too and the price hikes.

Actually Virgin apparently aren't governed by the new rules so you can't cancel within contract by leveraging them. I've had crap speeds now for over a year with no real alternative on the horizon.

You know what, I have noticed that on some evenings my BB is throttled down to like 1-3mg speeds!? I notice it when I am streaming a TV program and it freezes so I re stream it and the app/link doesn't load. I go to a speed test on my phone and see the throttle. On normal days I do get about 48meg from the 50mb package.

Im currently in my notice period as they are trying to charge me £28 for 50 meg BB lol.
Here's proof in video form of my amazing 0.44mb 100mb connection.

I know of people who have successfully canceled mid term. Worth a try.

There are excessive usage policie in place. You may have triggered those.
There's a few errors in these posts - I only know because I'm currently in the middle of a complaint with them

Excessive usage policy - Will not affect downloads, only upload speed
Cancelling mid-term - They will do if your service is suffering degradation as they are breaching your contract. They just mentioned this on the phone to me minutes ago

I'm really frustrated with them personally, I've never had any problems with broadband having been with BT and SKY but wanted to dump the landline and fancied 100mb so switched to Virgin. The speed in the evenings has never been great but it's been enough for me to manage to game online and stream but in the last three months it drops to single digits between 7-9pm which when I work all day is really the only time I use it in the week.

I've been told that I will receive an Ofcom approved degradation compensation of £12/month off a £35/month bill - I've said that isn't good enough. They tell me the area is over-subscribed but I'm sure they aren't turning customers away who are wanting to sign up despite knowing full well they will be getting a sub-standard service. I'm a bit stuck really as the price is competitive based on other ones with landline lumped in but those speeds in the evening are entirely unacceptable.
I might try this. Im currently paying £43 per month for 150mb and line rental even though I never actually use the landline!

I had to eventually escalate to CEO office before they stopped blanketing my area with salesmen and i'm in a similar position. Evenings are atrocious.
Evenings are awful. My mate is watching game if thrones on Now TV at the moment. I can't even use the WiFi, when I do, to browse the net, the Now TV stops working. So using my data. He's got 50meg and it is crawling. Every evening it's around 7meg tops.

Appalling.

7 megs is enough to stream to and someone else to be online too. Are you using the supplied Router? They are notoriously bad.
Just managed to get this deal, put in to cancel my original package of 50mb + talk weekends phone line and £50 online credit for £22.99pm, £9.99 activation with a free manned install, which I signed up for on the 19th March. I rang VM and said I received a call from VM outbound retentions team (I didn't) and they offered me this deal to stay but then the phone cut off, so I asked for a call back from them before I sign up to another provider. I received that call just & I said the same, the lady on the VM outbound retentions team happily said she would change it to this deal- 100mbps + phone line £24 a month, £0.99p cheaper plus the superhub 3.0 !
Worth a try people.
I will say when I originally put in to cancel the bloke from cancellations (not retentions team) who I spoke to couldn't care less and offered nothing to stay with VM so I said yes I want to cancel and called his bluff.
