Virgin Media retention. M+ and 100mb fibre. 60%+ off.

Until yesterday I was paying around £68 for M+ TV package, 100mb fire broadband and landline(with free weekend calls)

I spoke to retentions and confirmed I wanted to leave after being offered Sky Original Bundle, standard broadband(can't get fibre in my area) and phoneline for £40. Virgin retentions said someone would call me back.

They called me back, argued the point about Skys BB speeds compared to Virgin, i said i didn't care about the speed as I would be happy saving money. They offered me the exact same services I have now for £25 a month for 12 months on a 12 month contact (down from £68)

VM is over subscribed, massive over utilisation, pay for 200 meg vivid and get anything from 0.14 to 30... Constant crashes, on demand rarely works, constant error codes and outages... Pay top £ for a broken service...

I'm paying the standard rate of £37 for the 100mbit and phone so this is a good price but is it available to everyone ?

VM is over subscribed, massive over utilisation, pay for 200 meg vivid and get anything from 0.14 to 30... Constant crashes, on demand rarely works, constant error codes and outages... Pay top £ for a broken service...

Without anything else...I am just absolutely amazed that they called back!!! Never have done with us which is why when we move we will be changing over to Sky.

Just swapped to sky yesterday, explained I was moving from virgin. Offered me the half price for 18months, mini q box for free and free instillation getting done next week. After paying over £110 a month for virgin for constant crashes a slow box, errors, poor customer service and supposedly strong wifi that doesn't cover the whole house.

Customer service is really bad! This is a good retention offer but it is down to the discretion of the person you spoke to. Some are more helpful then others discounting the service . Last year I was on a 12 month fibre optic broadband contraxt for £14 a month - my sister tried to speak to the same person but was offered the same service for £23.

I think they have targets to meet too, but a mention of moving TO Sky puts you in a better position!

I'm considering moving away from virgin media when contract runs out as have had numerous hardware issues, poor connections with old cables, phone line, and now a failed audio on TiVo box which is very slow and less than a year old. But not sure who to move to. Tempted to go with broadband only as smart TV does most of what a box does, any suggestions would be appreciated.

How did you get the package at that price?

Virgin Media told us that our utilization problems were fixed... their technicians told us otherwise... they are still advertising their services where we live yet can't sustain the tv or internet in its current shabby form. year after year the prices go up to maintain their product they tell us but in fact they are making more money for an ever increasing substandard service.
Imagine buying a cake in a glass case, you can't touch it or eat it but you paid V.M just to watch it... Every day V.M sells another cake but takes a slice from yours until your cake is but a mere slither...... They still want that £100 a month off you and will blatantly lie that the cake is all there when every day you can see it's clearly not.... WELL - THAT IS VIRGIN MEDIA, and whatever you do, do not take up their Health Care..........

paid line rental up front for the year. complained about my speed being slow (using traffic managment ) they were reducing my speeds every montth and it was getting to me . so chose to online chat to lower my package . in which I stated I don't see the point in paying X amount when I can just drop the price and still get the same speed. person I spoke to was quite helpful and insisted that I myself am a gamer it would be best to infact upgrade rather than downgrade. eventually we got to only a £3 discount on what I was already paying. had I chose a better tv package he would give me a better price. it would be best to try chatting . I have a friend who constantly complains to sky and they keep giving him freebies. I wish I had this luck lol

Great deal, i just rang up, and i got offered only £30 for broadband only 70mb, but they would make it up to 100mb as thats there smallest they do now, says it should be £34, lol, i am paying like £23(to much anyway) at the moment, but runs out 31st july, so want to arrange something, guess i better phone on the 30th june to see what they offer, or guess i leave.

http://i.imgur.com/4GMdNJB.pngHi there, I am really hoping that one of you guys might be able to help me please?

This is really embarrassing, but I have been paying over £46 a month just to have Virgin media wifi and phone calls (I don't even use the house phone). I have tried, in the past to go through the retentions team and get the price down but it just never works.

I am a single mother and a student and I would really like to get this bill down or more for my money if you know what I mean? I do not even have a TV package and would love a box in the sitting room and/or a box in my LO's room too, but I always thought that if I did this then I would need to pay a huge amount more because I am already paying so much for just the internet.

I would really, really appreciate any advice that anyone has for me as I am not very good at these things but definitelyhttp://imgur.com/4GMdNJB need to try and do something that does not 'eat; so much into my NHS bursary lol.

Thank you x

Unless you threaten them with leaving, they keep jacking up the price. I left them last year but last day of my contract called me back to reduce prices . They treat their existing customers who don't look at their bills as cows to milk .

I'll have a go with them over chat. Thanks for the advise.

Have you tried calling them and telling them it's too expensive and you want to leave? In my experience your only opportunities to do this without incurring any penalties (So basically when they know you can and will leave) is when you've had communication of a price rise (so usually at the bottom of the letter in the tiniest of font sizes, it states if you are not happy to oh the increase you have the right to cancel the products/ services within a set amount of time, usually 30 days) OR when your contract is up for renewal. For me, personally, £47 is A LOT for internet. Virgin are one of the biggest suppliers but do shop around genuinely and get an idea of price when you are in a place where you are ready to negotiate.

If you try to have the disconnection or offers discussion prior to the 2 Windows of opportunities as states abive, they will try slap you with the charges to it the rest of your contract so not worth the hassle (although you may be lucky?)

More than happy to help if you wanna PM me closer the time - perhaps I can find a cheaper deal for you to help when you call Virgin?

...excuse the spelling and grammatical errors - new phone and auto correct!

Use a lan cable. My PS4 gets only about 25mb over WiFi but with LAN cable I exceed the stated 100mb on some occasions.

Really? It's not like I haven't tried it no the techs... It actually brought the Upload down from around 13 to 3.... on all ports....... Yes... Really, I have had not only the techs, Principle Tech and then his 2 x bosses here but I have mates who work in V.M too... V.M is 100% screwed and they are trying to shaft their way into the NHS..... Virgin - the Pro-EU stance but want's to privatise the NHS....and sue the NHS for backing out on sales...... Just imagine paying your hard earned cash into Virgin Health Care... regardless - almost certain death............

No problem, I PM'd you yesterday with a bit more advice. The reason they hiked up your bill is because you're out of contract so I'm really surprised you didn't get an offer of any sort. Good luck though!

Did you get a call back on your landline or mobile? I've put in notice but if the outbound rententions team call I don't have a landline plugged in

Hi I put my notice in at the end of May but still not had a call back from the **** . I have rang customer services and retention's to speak to the 'Outbound sales team' and they have said they can't transfer me. So what sort of company have a sales team who you can't speak too! Looks like I'm off to BT. Does any one know if I have a 14 day right to cancel with BT if Virgin did come back with a good deal at the last minute. Thanks

Agree on that. I signed up via site with £100 cashback & £50 bill credit. Ended up cancelling in the 14 days. Horrendous overutilization making it unusable at peak times.

I joined 6 weeks ago or more. Iv never signed any contact. I was told there going to post one but I never got or signed it. Do you think I can cancle and try to get a better deal?

Get then to fax all your issues

I cant comment on here as i have been warned, I could PM you ( lovetolaugh) as i can help with your matter and anyone else.

Wow so many negative comments, I've been with Virgin a few years now, overall they have been great, the new Superb 3 box has some latency problems for gaming but it works fine and we get incredible download speeds , speedtest shows 220mbps , in reality from a decent server I get about 25 -30 mbit. The new Virgin V6 box is fast and now prefer it to Sky, mind you I've not tried Sky Q..

Not true in my area. London, Twickenham, and the service is spot on

It is in Letchworth. And in Wimbledon. Luton is currently dropping around 30% of the packets. Core router in VM network is literally discarding packets (meaning you get very slow internet). VM denied, then acknowledged, then said fixed and a month later it still isn't. At my other place in Wimbledon, there's no packet loss but it's not 200 either... it's more like 20. And yeah that's from sources that I know are sitting on multi-gigabit fibre lines and have plenty of bandwidth to give me 200 at home.

Have you tried to change the router? I'm using my Virginia one as a modem and have a better one as a router only. On top of that, have you checked your connection on the cable, directly connected to the router? Maybe you just have a bad router?

Is it a reply to me ?

I'm a cisco engineer. The "super" hub is in modem only mode. I have my own pfsense router.
My CPE is not responsible for their core network routers dropping packets. That's like saying the car parked on my drive at home is causing congestion on the M25.

I am an engineer with masters in IT as well, I couldn't have been possibly aware of your credentials, nor where you have taken your knowledge on what is going on with your connection from. Your sarcastic and colourful hyperbole was neither polite or needed.

I used to be with Virgin media for years, even when they were Telewest, but from 4 years ago I started to experience over utilisation and constant false promises to resolve by so and so date, they did offer to refund me but being clever they only refunded me on the broadband part, which was heavily discounted, and still ended up paying for the telephone line which I never used. The problem with VM they heavily sell their services with no thought to the bandwidth and therefore existing customers suffer heavily for slow broadband speeds, I was averaging 5-6 MB for a 50mb service in the North London area. My brother, who also lives locally, also experienced same issues and quit. I have gone to another provider and although lower speeds at least I get something decent consistently.

You have been warned.

That is an amazing deal OP.

With retentions it is the simple game of chicken. If you are going to cancel, cancel. Don't just threaten it. They can sniff out the ones who are just going for a deal and know they won't leave.
Once they realise you are serious, of course they will give you a deal.

However ...... after what seems an age, Virgin just dropped into our village.
They guy knocked on the door and I asked about the broadband price for 200Mb. He said 'full price, 37.25'. I asked if he was kidding that they deploy fibre and try to entice the new customers by not giving a discount. His reply was that it was national prices.

Waiting game until the offers come back

I just signed up to this deal.

100mb fibre + tv medium + phone line for £20 a month (12 month contract) + £50 bill credit.
Edited by: "raj_parmar1" 16th Jul

We just left Virgin because they wouldn't give us a deal , paying over £70 a month for basic TV , no movies or sports but we do get 200 Mbps as standard, however Sky offered everything (but no sports) inc fibre Max , movies, HD etc etc for £45 inc line rentail so it's a no brainer! Would still have stayed with Virgin if they had offered us a deal but no call came. I had to speak to the leaving team several tim s to as Sky mucked up our installl date and I wanted Virgin to extend our cut off date, they said they would but they didn't we got cut off on the date they said. I think they never believed me as I asked if you offer me a deal I'll stay..but to hard to turn down a near half price offer from Sky. Broad band isn't as fast but to be honest it's not noticeable for everyday use, and the Sky Q is so much faster!!
