I hope it helps, especially with the new price increase this has come at a good time

If I'm a existing customer, can I link my Topcashback account?

Original Poster

You can ask on topcashback via a support ticket but i think is for new packages taken out. If you took out your package b4 the price increase they should allow you to cancel early. Then you can take it out through this to help save some money

Slightly OT pookey, but I'm a long-time customer and hope your info helps me when call their retentions and tell them I think Richi is flying to the moon using my fees! We'll see if they manage to retain me or have to get lost

I think it's partly having to speak to India or even more exotic places any time your VM goes down the drain.....Herr Stomheinfuhrer Branson has really dropped the ball with the service they provide IMHO

Touch wood we didn't have any problems with it this time round. The first time we got it we had a few it was a bit annoying but at least they kept crediting our account so it wasn't too bad. Was thinking about joining bt but itseems they charge for everything so it works out more expensive.

Great deal, but I can't wait to go back to Sky personally

Good grief....off a bill in excess of £100 a month, VM retentions just offered me a whole £3 discount a month if I re-contract for 12 months - they can GTF

Thanks for posting. My bill is about half the price so i won't waste time. I'll probably cut it off and sign up through topcashback.

I wasn't over 12 months. My contract is up in April. Currently I pay 49.99 a month for xl TV, 50mb broadband and m phone package. This is before the price rise next month. They couldn't do anything on my existing package, but if I drop to L TV, then my bill will go to 39.99 per month including the price increase. Not sure what to do.

Yes you can.

not so sure. if the price increase is in the contract and you sign the contract you cannot then cancel the contract because the previously agreed price rise comes into play.

I'm going on holiday to see our German friend at the start of Feb so won't even need TV/net/phone to be connected. Could I cancel on day of leaving do you know then TCB when I come back????? I just don't know these things!

I'm counting down the days to leaving this shower or Sh#te, after only joining at the end of November.

Before joining, be aware of any congestion issues in your area, as performance on my 152 mb is typically 20-30 in the evenings and weekend. They do not make these issues public and would probably lie if you asked about them. Well worth checking out the Virgin forums. There is a 28 day refund policy if you are unhappy, but they pull the plug immediately, leaving you without any services.

It's already been mentioned, but Virgin Media have the most useless and unhelpful customer service department, I have never experienced such an unwillingness to take responsibility for an issue an actually be of some help.

Finally, the Tivo box is pathetic. Slow, buggy mess of a system, that just does not work. To top it all off, it uses its own dedicated network, which also suffers from congestion and means that iPlayer and Netflix apps don't work.

If you are used to Sky, this will be a big disappointment. Broadband is good, when it works. Beware!

on the contrary i have had near perfect performance from virgin media for the last three years. broadband admittedly is 30mb as you say but i find that fast enough for streaming on nowtv. never had a problem with the tivo box and my kids are always recording crap. not tried the apps on it but youtube works fine. couldn't be happier, except for the price increase from £45 - £60 in three years (i'm on friends/family discount so still not a bad deal). i'm leaving them shortly to get a freesat box but still a little hesitant as virgin have been very reliable.

from your link: Contracts where it is stated that the price will increase mid-contract, such as those with introductory offers, are also not included in the guidelines.

It you want to cancel they work it out by your billing date so call them to see if you cancelled today when they would actually disconnect you.
As for topcashback the amount tends to fluctuate. At the moment it seems to be at the peak. Are youa member of topcashback already? If so you can ask them when the offer finishes? ??

LOL - when I phoned VM retentions and mentioned moving back to Sky, she mentioned Sky were rubbish and fail a lot - I was a bit shocked and thought that liableous so asked the girl to repeat that again. She did on record I made!!!! VM staff didn't seem to have a care in the world if I moved provider - they are really down the pan IMHO.

Totally agree with all of this

I'd also like to throw in the rubbish mobile TV service/app called 'TV Anywhere' ... which is supposed to be like Sky Go, yet the vast majority of channels only give you the option to watch them on your TV that your VM box is connected to - WTF is the point of that?

This is what I got offered just now.. bare in mind I don't have tv..I don't know if it's a good deal or not, but I think it's better than what I have been paying since last year.

Talk Unlimited, caller display, talk 0845 (250 mins to 0845 numbers) and 50 MB broadband, previously £33.49 but bills would be £34-£38 per month.

The new offer works out to be just over £25.90 as I have paid the line rental of £144 in advance (£12 per month), haggled so much so got a £30 credit and as I have changed midway through my contract, I got an additional £13.19 credit.

So £144 (line rental) plus £210 (Broadband)= £334 - £30 credit- £13.19 = £310.81/12 = £25.90.
Hope that helps someone...
