Virgin Media V+ Box FINALLY Now £49 for Existing TV XL Customers

I'm on TV XL (mainly because I am an idiot and took them up on the fatal one month free XL offer then didn't cancel) - but I'm happy with ESPN coming free with XL with the old Sultana Sports Premiership games (and ESPN CLassic which I loved in my old SKY tv days).

Anyway, enough of all that. I've always said I'd be first in the queue when the V+ box is available to existing customers for £49 (as it has been for ages to "new customers only" grrrrr...)

Previous attempts to get it failed, being told I can have it for £49 if I keep my existing box at £5 a month?? WTF for, I don't need it and there's nowhere to plug it in anyway.

Finally I got it for £49 with no stupid conditions. The link I've supplied goes to a page that suggests you need to upgrade your TV package to get it. I didn't, I was on XL and am still on XL and paid £49.

Hope this is goog news to people with HD tv's and tight wallets like me

And good news

so £49 fee for the v+box and no extra payments subscription wise ?

nice one

I am also on vigin and managed to get a free (with free installation ) v+ box off them last month just by ringing them up, and telling them i had been offered a better deal with sky. They also upgraded my broad band ,put me on the xl phone package and upgraded my tv package to xl -all for 39.00 a month. My sister also did the same and also got a free box as did my mother in law a couple of days later!!! considering i was already paying over £40 a month thought this was a pretty good deal(and so does my bank balance!)

I'm 8 months into my 1st VM contract having moved house, I have no bargaining power to get a free one. Well done though

When my box broke, I just asked the engineer if he could give me a v+ box instead, which he did, for £50.

I've been with them for years though, so that's probably why - they realised they've been fleecing me senseless over the past decade.

i have just rang them and they wouldnt budge, they said i had to keep the old box for £5 a month and get a v+ for £49, i asked them what i should do with the old box or what they expected me to do because i have nowhere else to plug it in, they said, buy the v+ box on the offer and dont use it and keep the old one on the current set up........is it me or does that seem a bit odd!!

i am deeply annpyed with virign. i phoned to upgrade to HD and ;ater found out that they only offer ONE HD channel as the cable can cope with the 30 odd HD channel available.

I switched to sky and paying on average £20 cheaper for phone, broadband and TV Sky Sports 1 and HD. Voting cold sorry

Because they used to have one HD channel? Times change my friend! Now it's about 5 (ok still catching up with Sky) but I'm paying NOTHING to receive them and I get an 80gig PVR for £49.

Cold my backside.

Thanks for the post I'll give it a try - we spend enough!

Virgin suck... glad I left the fockers for Sky... never been happier.

I don't know if it makes a difference but I phoned the VM Sales number rather than 150 or whatever it is.

I got my pliers out yesterday and clipped the VM service cable. What a feeling of freedom after 2 years of misery! (Before that I had 3 good years with Telewest before Virgin took over)

Personally I hate Sky and I'm extremely glad I left them for Virgin.
In fact, I can't express in words how much I resented having to use Sky to watch football for so many years.

Also, getting more HD channels now through Virgin and I'm paying less than had I stayed with Sky.

it's a good deal - their on demand stuff is great too. the V+ HD box is getting better, especially the new model they have out, much quicker.

Sky are sods for getting rid of, bad sales practices and have you well and truely by the nads.

good deal for those that want Virgin, but I much prefer Sky.
Many more HD channels, ability to choose football games for champions league coverage and Match choice for weekend games.
Plus my bill is far cheaper than anything available on Virgin thanks to half price deals etc from Sky.

How do you work that one out? For the first twelve months your Sky+HD box is on warranty, after the 12 months, just change the subscriber, get a new box on another 12 months warranty etc. ad infinitum.

P.S. Voted hot, as it seems like a good deal for Virgin subscribers.

I said that to a sales call from Sky and they havent called me back again to see if I wanted to join! hahhaha

I got mine free when i rang up to cancel previously, i belive that it was £199 at that point ,but im paying £5 a month for the box on top of my current package so if you dont take xl channels then you still have to pay £5 a month on top.

I had this v+ box since it first came out , its been faulty 3 times , my current one has been faulty now for over 6 months as sometimes does not record or it want let me change channels or freezes for an hour , just aint had the chance to get them round to change it , but happens again im moving to sky as its so annoying that the box goes wrong so easily.

I was also offered a free XL for a month , despite being told it wouldnt effect my current deal it did , i cancelled within a month , but they made an eorror and the discount i was given previously had been removed.

After numerous complaints i got my money back , so if you are on any current good deal then dont take the free xl offer.

This new look Samsung V+ box is it better than the older V+ box?

if you are on XL TV

They offered me this in February. Not sure why the OP says its only come to light now. If you phoned them, theyd give it you for £49 and no more charges.

Are people having to commit to another 12 month contract to get a box for £49. I've been with Virgin for 20 odd months now, but refuse to commit to another 12 because we're looking to move house into a non cabled area. I'd be happy to pay £49 one off fee to get a V+ box over my standard Samsung thing!

Cheers

Porky

I'm not sure how much Virgin actually care about their boxes. My girlfriend's old one has been sat under our TV unit for several months waiting on them to send out an envelope so that we can return it...

I've ordered this. £49 for XL tv subscribers, no probs, no questions, no debate.

One question - someone earlier in the thread stated that the new V+ boxes are much better than the older models - anybody know how you can tell if you're being given the newer model rather than the older one?

It's just a shame the V+ box is crap lol

already got one see if i can get another

I rang up and got them to knock another £20 good will gesture off, so £29 for the V+ box!

regards to the new one being better, well it looks better, a lot better! BUT it actully has less options for audio outputs which can be a pain with certain set ups! but I still think i may wrap my old box up in a towel till it overheats and breaks and get a new one, it matches my tv so much better lol!

I got mine free in feb when moving house with no extra to pay on my subs as threatened to leave when moving

Apparently so but from what I have read on Virgin's forum … Apparently so but from what I have read on Virgin's forum (http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/TV/New-Samsung-V-box/m-p/1516#M164) it's only available in a few area's so I doubt many people will get them for a while. The current v+ box is just awful :x

Agreed - mine crashes several times a week and also cant handle when you pause tv whilst recording another channel. Slow response too... really dont get on. Would have been really miffed if Id payed 200 quid!

I've already got one V+ box (on XL) and was wondering if anyone managed to get another V+ box as I would like to change the normal box in the bedroom.

I ve had the normal big V+ box for about 3 years now, it's a HUGE beast of a box akin to an old beta max video machine.
BUT.....
I honestly dont know how we got by without it now.
Yes the software is slow and it takes forever to change channel as the recording buffer stops n then restarts, but that aside it is a fantastic PVR!
The facility to record two shows while watching a THIRD is a god send.
Series links are a simple button press and the fast forward and rewind at 32x speed on recorded programmes is great.
Just recently had the 50 mb broadband installed, and i was asking the chap about the new samsung V+ box, he said that the box you get is totally random and just whatever they have in stock at the time of your install.
He said people call up claiming a fault on their box, in the hope of an upgrade to the samsung box lol.
The current V+ box on the virgin media advert flyers, says on the small print, "box provided may differ from the one pictured".
A steal at £49 and worth every penny.

I was on L TV - got this deal a few months ago when I went through to retentions, having actually been prepared to pay £69.

Now paying £39 a month for M phone, XL TV with V+ and 10Mb broadband.
