Just got off the phone to Virgin Media Retention..

All i said was that i was not happy with the price of what i was paying for my services when i could get them much cheaper at Sky and if they cant beat Sky's price then i would leave and goto Sky. They put me on hold for a few minutes, then he came back and offered me:

XL TV
XL Phone
XL Broadband
Sky Movies Collection

For Just £44.00 A Month (Fixed Price & Wont Go Up After 3/6/12 Months)

Which is £24 cheaper than Sky.

--

So, if you want this great deal, just phone Virgin Media retention. Then just say your not happy with the price your paying for your services and that you can get them much cheaper at Sky. They should beat Sky's price.

Here is the link to compare Sky's Prices to Virgin Media's Prices:

packages.sky.com/com…re/

(Add £11.00 Onto The Total Of Sky's Total Price Because They Dont Include Line Rental Fee)

-- EDIT --

The Actual Price Is £40.00 A Month, Not £44.00 A Month

I Miss-Typed The Price.

This seems to be for cabled area customers only.

I have just phoned Virgin but as I am on a BT line and not in a cabled area they can only offer the freeview box with approx 40 channels which I cant get in my area anyway, broadband and phone no probs.

Looks like I will have to try again with Sky

How do people get these sort of discounts -_- been with ntl/virgin media over 4 years with all their services and tried this several times in the past and get nowhere and then they usual "accidentally" charge me more on my bill the next month.

Leaving Virgin media for sky soon, they have a very poor customer service and dont value or respect their customers at all...

Seems good if you want the 'big' version of everything. I have the basic tv/phone/broadband for £19 per month and am happy with it, since I don't use my landline or the tv much.

Maybe update the thread title to the correct price - it says £40 but then you quote £44 in the text.

GreenTango,

As the op stated you have to ring them and inform them that you are thinking of leaving. As long as you are polite you will usually get someone who is willing to look at your account and tell you if you they can offer anything better.

I live in London and I pay £24 a month for XL TV, XL BB and XT Tele. I have also got similar deals for other members of my family by doing the above. One word of caution though you have to check your bill because they have a habit of increasing the price after 3 months even though they tell you it is for 12 months or longer.

Too true, I hated my time with Sky and the constant problems I experienced. The only time they did anything good for me was when I phoned to leave and they offered me 12 months free! :w00t: shame I had already signed up for Virgin :giggle:

Yeah tried this, told them to cancel my account and they said they would do this, few days later rather than them confirming that they canceled my account they offered me an insentive to stay so i agreed, next thing i know they started charging me more money than my original bill!

Virgin media's services are great and if you can get good deals like this one stated its even better but they are so poorly orangised if something goes wrong its a nightmare to have corrected.

this is not a deal, different retentions staff will give different offers, including cheaper ones, and there's no guarantee you'll get anything....

best stick to actual deals

hmmm well ive just changed to virgin 2 weeks ago and have taken the xl package on everything. they changed my phone number which im not overly bothered about, but i called and went mad anyway lol! i got 70 credited to my account for my trouble! result!! cant go wrong with virgin imo! voted hot.

Yer, i miss-typed the price. The actual price is £40 a month as explained in the title and where it says £24 cheaper than sky.

Thanks for lettin me know lol, gunna change it after this post.

To get this deal just phone the Retention phone number and say to them, if they cant beat Sky's price. You'll leave. They SHOULD offer you a deal.

if you only have the w/e free call package, it probably works out about the same - mine is same package but with unlimited call pack, talk international (which makes international calls cheaper - we use it a lot) and another one, I think for discounted calls to mobiles...

anyway, cheers for trying to gloat at my expense!

Wow. I have had the exact opposite 'problem'!
Signed up for broadband about 18 months ago, they never charged us for the 1st 12 months (No, this was not the deal).

They stack the discounts too, when we started with C&W we had a discount, NTL came allong and added another discound, and a few months ago VM phoned us up and said they would knock (Yes knock) 50p OFF our bill if we were willing to take the XL TV package!

Yes please we said, so now we have the 3 for £30 discount and the 2 for £xx discount plus another original one from NTL/C&W so all in all we pay under £15/month including line rentals and all calls! (2MB Broadband, Phone & XL TV)

Is fun to look at our bill, we have all this stuff and then you see how much they have botched up the discounts lol.

They are a shambles! when we said we would take the 50P off in exchange for on demand music, TV and XL channels plus not sentanta they called us up to ask when we wanting installation - We already had our TV set installed as we were previuos TV customers but cancelled (No doubt the left the discount for having TV on though)... Then a few weeks later we said, when is they guy coming round with our new box? They said they had no record of us wanting the TV.

Hit and miss we must have just been really very lucky but no complaints at those prices.

Good price Victim, if only i have the 2 hours it takes to get through to virgin lol. heat n repped

What is the Virgin Retention number. I've tried 0800 730591 but it keeps saying number not available. My bill has mysteriously just gone up without warning.

Just ring 150 and get through to anyone and ask to be put through to retentions and dont take no for an answer.
It took ages to get through as i think this post has got alot of UKHD'ers phoning lol

If your willing to keep at them you will get a great price.
Im on the xl tv with the V+(recorder and HD) and a second box in the bedroom plus the telephone and m broadband for £38 a month.

Same thing with sky would be twice that. The key is to be nice and have a decent arguement. Dont just say 'i want it cheaper' say 'sky are offering...' or 'orange are offering me free broadband...' etc. Make sure you have a plan of attack!

mark

I think they're giving a lot of really good deals to try and get people taking out tv with them again. I was paying around £39 per month for 4Mb internet and the middle phone package, but today I was able to upgrade to 20Mb internet and XL tv for £40. I'm tempted to call back though and see if I can get the top phone package added in for that price if other people are getting it!

Thanks oriental*lilly

The best time to phone is between 12.00pm and 4.00pm, but still expect to be on hold for a while, ive phoned alot of times just to see what price they will offer me for what i want, and i've been on hold for at least 15 mins each time.

Oh, i just remembered, Ive seen a few Virgin Media customers get XL TV, XL Phone & XL Broadband For £37 A Month..

So, thats £3 less if you dont want Sky Movies, but i say pay the extra £3 and keep Sky Movies.

;-)

We're on basic tv package, phone and 2mb broadband. We have a V+ box, a second box upstairs and the broadband is still on 20meg (they never seem to downgrade it!). £17 a month! Got Eurovox box so get all channels anyway:thumbsup:

I'm guessing you had to pay for the V+ installation?

I'd have V+ if the installation wasent so much!

We didn't pay for the V+ installation, they installed free when they first launched it! Phone is free talk weekends. We use vonage for free national and national calls £7.99/month so only have the phone as a backup. Although looking to ditch this and go with 18185.co.uk instead. This gives free uk calls all the time (5p connection per call). We'd have to make 160 local/national calls to spend £7.99 a month, so this looks better. Also 6p to mobiles (3p at weekends) and you can text from pc for 1p a text!:)

Sounds good, but if your gunna move to them. Check out there reviews first as i noticed that Virgin Media have 1 of the best reviews for the TV and Broadband services. So i stuck with Virgin Media instead of going with another provider.

Lucky you, dident even have to pay for installation!

18185 is a prefix number you dial, so won't need to change provider!

Does anyone

Does anyone have the number

It's 150 from a Virgin Media phone, option 4.

Not sure if your not on Virgin Media phone.

Ahh well, I suppose that's what I get for telling the truth. I called retentions recently and said I was happy with what I had but it was costing too much. I said I don't use my phone line and would be happy to cancel that. I walked away with L BB, XL TV, M Phone, V+ and 2nd V box for about £50 a month.

The guy was so nice I forgot about mentioning what I could get from Sky! To be honest though I would never move to sky. I love all the on demamd stuff, the BB is great and I'd have to pay BT £125 to come and put a phone line in!

Ok going off my original rant about not getting any sort of retention deal from virgin media

I currently have the XL TV package + movies and sports, L telephone (Talk Evenings & Weekends), 2 M broadband & an additional cable box for another room and I am paying £85 a month for this and has been this way for at least 2.5 years (been with them for over 4 years).

Anyone think I should be paying less for what I have?

You're joking surely! Isnt that over their advertised price?

could you haggle a deal if your on the 3 for £30 package?

i think the service is **** and we've been with them for over a year now without any upgrades, discounts etc.

Heh heh.
Sorry mate, but you're probably the only person in the country paying that much for that. You've simply got to phone up, threaten to cancel, say you're going to Sky who have offered you all that for £45 a month with a free sky+ box - which they would. I'd bet you my last pound they match it or nearly match it.

I had V+ XL with Sport and Movies, Unlimited phone, 2mb broadband for about £55 back in April - but I absolutely hated V+ (I'm used to Sky+) so I cancelled it a week later.
As an incentive to keep the phone and broadband she said she'd do a good deal on them for me, but I thought I'd agreed 2mb B/b, free weekend calls for £20. Since then however, I've been getting bills around £14 ish most months - once went up to about £24, but that was a total one-off - and I seem to be on talk unlimited with 2mb b/b.

I hated their telly, love their broadband and phone, and think their disorganisation in my billing is fantastic.

you are paying over the top
I have:
xl tv + Movies and sports
xl phone, free local and national all the time, cheaper mobile, cheaper international
20 meg broadband
additional cable box upstairs
and I pay £85 for that(hoping to get that price down )

thought as much :(, last time i called them they told me this is the best deal i can hope to get.

The bill is shared between 3 of us but we are all in agreement that its far too much now after what sky could offer us and what people on here mention they have for the price they pay.

Will have to get on the phone to them tonight and give it another shot and cancel this time if they dont do anything.

Think Retentions are a day-time team - I'd phone them now. 08451420000 and insist on going through to the retentions team as you want to cancel having heard you're on a poor deal, and have seen lots of other people on much better ones.
Be polite though...I've had very pleasant conversations along these lines with both Sky and Virgin....and they do not respond at all well to people throwing strops.
