There have been other Virgin Mobile offers here but they are just hit or miss and not available to anyone else apart from the original poster.

The deals posted in this thread are readily available to all existing customers.

In order to get the above deals, you need to get a Loyalty Discount. You get this by being an existing Virgin Media customer (getting broadband, telephone and/or tv) and also must have been with Virgin Mobile for at least 3 months.

All you have to do then is call the retentions team using your existing mobile phone and dial 789 (from 8am - 8pm).

Select option 0 for "anything else"
Select option 4 "if you're thinking of leaving us".
Press 0 to go ahead.

Tell the advisor you speak to that you're not happy with how much you're paying and that you should be entitled to a loyalty discount to bring it down to £9/month.

Their system allows them to do this.

Good luck.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Update:

If they won't budge, tell them you are considering to move to a better provider such as Three who do:

Ultimate Internet SIM600 for £15.90/month
600mins, 5000text, Unlimited data
where you can get about £50 cashback from TCB or Quidco,
which works out effectively to £11.87/month.

That's an advertised deal on their website and you could get a loyalty discount from them also after a couple of months to bring that price down too.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you manage to get a discount please post a comment with the following answers:

1) Are you existing Virgin Media customer (receiving broadband, telephone and/or TV)?
2) How long have been with Virgin Mobile?
3) What tariff were you on and how much were you paying before the discount?
4) What tariff are you on now and how much are you paying now?

Terms and Conditions were updated today (24th Jan 2013) on Virgin Mobile website. The relevant clauses relating to Mobile Internet for pay monthly and Sim Only customers are highlighted below:

Virgin Media Mobile Acceptable Use Policy Pay Monthly
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

For new & upgrading customers from 24 January 2013: If your tariff includes data, then this is for mobile internet services and data consumption actually on your handset. It does not include using your handset as a modem to connect other devices such as laptops and tablets - also known as "Tethering".

Virgin Media reserves the right to impose network protection controls which may reduce your speed of transmission if your data usage is excessive and not in keeping with that reasonably expected of a private individual.

For customers who joined Virgin Media after 25 June 2012 excessive use over 3.5GB of data per calendar month will result in their maximum bandwidth being restricted to 3G speeds (384kbit/s downstream, 200kbit/s upstream) on our network between midday and midnight. For customers who joined before 25 June 2012 excessive use over 2GB of data per calendar month will result in this restriction being applied. This policy will apply until the end of the calendar month, when it will be automatically removed. We reserve the right to review these usage levels from time to time. At this reduced speed, customers will still be able to browse web pages, send/receive emails, and stream audio and video all at 3G data speeds, but peer-to-peer and large file downloads/uploads will be slower than normal.

As an example, a customer would have to watch over 16 hours of high quality video before that threshold is reached. Typically far less than 0.25% of our customers will be affected on a monthly basis.

You can try and get it down to £13 after one month. Down to £10 after two months. But those offers are a hit or miss.

After three months though, you are entitled to the loyalty discount and get it down to £9 as mentioned in the title of this thread.

Most, if not all, will get a discount after calling Retentions, the point I'm making is that there is no '£' discount in black and white, its all about your attitude to the customer advisor you speak to / side of the bed they got out that day/ time month etc etc. as to what the actual discount will be.

Been with VirginMobile for 5+ years, been there done it.

I agree that sometimes you get some stubborn advisor who isn't willing to budge. If that happens, I just say good bye to him and speak to someone else. I too have been through a lot of talks with the retentions department. But I've got this discount for myself and also 2 other friends after 3 months. If you try to get a discount before that, it's very difficult. They want you to be around for a little longer.

After 3 months, I left them and even got a PAC code. But they still would not take me back by going anything lower than £9. I just agreed to stay for longer just before my contract expired. So I think this is the limit on what discount they can give.

I've seen lot of other posts in other threads too that people are getting £9/month. So I think this is very achievable by most customers after 3 months. I thought I'd just highlight this fact in a new deal since a lot of those Virginmedia deals posted here are not just achievable by most customers.
Edited by: "badzed" 11th Jan 2013

interesting about the loyalty discount. i keep hearing about this mythical retention deals where people get 2000+ minutes, unlimited texts/data/landline calls all for £10-£12 quid a month so i'd certainly love to get something like that - i've got the 1200minutes/1gb data/unlimited texts one at the moment for £12 a month.

I think a royalty discount is a fabulous idea, you should take it to Virgin and offer it to them. Who wants a loyalty discount when they could instead be treated like a King

I said the same and they weren't interested. So they initiated a cancellation and sent a text message saying that it would cancel in over 2 months time. I rang back the following day and asked them about the text message and they said the text was in error because my contract was due to be cancelled the following day.

I asked them for £8/month but they just would not accept me back. The guy even went and asked his manager. The guy told me their system just doesn't allow them. So I just decided to stay with £9/month.

Maybe you have to be with Virginmobile for 6 months to get £8/month.

All those who are getting retention deals, could you answer the 4 questions I asked in the first post. We could make a database here and see when and what can and can't be given.

Looks interesting

Did a similar thing a couple of months ago, I had been with Virgin for just over a month and my data allowance had run out by about the middle of the month. I told them I was moving to GiffGaff and they have given me the following:

2400 minutes to other mobiles
unlimited everything else

All for £10 a month on a 30 day rolling contract

unlimited is always not unlimited exept 3 mobile which is true unlimited...

Actually their unlimited is truly unlimited now, after 10gig they throttle the speed somewhat for the remainder of the month but no extra charges. They also allow tethering. I will be moving to the sim only £12 a month unlimited data rolling contract when my current 24 month contract ends with Orange because of this.

How long have been been with Virginmobile? Are you existing virginmedia customer?

I have two phones on 250 minutes, U/L texts, 1Gb data for £5 a month

Yes I am a Virgin Media customer. It's a £5 discount on something called Starter 10 sim only. The good thing with these deals are that they are firstly the best you can get and wouldn't want to leave anyway, but are on a 30 day rolling contract. Excellent if you do need to switch.

This is advertised on page 5 of today's Metro (11/01/2012) at £12. So even if you can't wrangle a loyalty discount down to £9 or lower, £12 should be guaranteed.
Edited by: "Domislice" 11th Jan 2013

Im I reading this right?

Is it if you have signed up to a two year contract with anew phone at one price you can phone up a few months into that and they will lower the price and you still keep the existing phone even if you still have a 18months+ on the old contract?

dcx_badass

That's with 1GB data not unlimited?

Yeah sorry, only 1GB. Think I got crossed wires reading the OP and some of the posts and thought the deal only included 1GB.

Just gave it a try - been with them since 2003! Was paying around £8 for:
- 600 minutes
- Unlimited Texts
- 1gb data

Am now paying £12 for:
- 2,500 minutes
- Unlimited Landline Minutes
- Unlimited Texts
- Unlimited data

Asked if there was anything with less minutes available to try and get the price down a bit more as I don't need all of those minutes and she said this was the only package available with Unlimited Data. But have gone over my data by quite a bit for the last 3 months so happy with this.
