Sim only deal
1200 minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited (3G) data

£17 a month with a £12 discount every month = £5 a month

I have only been with virgin mobile since June on a £7.50 deal. When enquiring into cancelling my 30 day contract I was offered this deal which is perfect for me!

The guy I spoke to said there was no fair usage policy on data as long as I was not tethering. 'Some people have easily gone over 4gb/5gb data a month'

I have yet to test this out but 2gb is enough for me.

Enjoy

For the benefit of those who can't/won't read though the whole thread: this is a retentions deal. You need to already be a Virgin Mobile customer. You need to speak to their customer retentions team (sometimes called the loyalty team). They don't work weekends as far as I can tell. You can get through to them by ringing 789 from your Virgin Mobile, or 150 from your Virgin landline; follow the prompts that lead you to the option for 'thinking of leaving us'. You most likely will also need to be a Virgin Media customer too (TV, broadband, phone that kind of thing). The deal you get offered may change each time you ring them depending apparently on the mood or nature of the person you speak to. Either threaten to leave (ask for your PC code) or tell them you can't afford the prices anymore. Even if you don't get offered the same deal as the OP, you will likely be offered something better than what you are currently on. Ring a couple of times to see if the offer changes.
Also, anyone stating this is a CON or the deal doesn't exist is talking through their backsides or hasn't bothered following instructions properly, or just doesn't qualify. Read this edit once more before phoning Virgin.

Sunny_89, your title says 10mins? typo?

Sorry about the mistake in the headline. Stupid auto correct!

Original Poster

It is definitely 1200 minutes a month, not 10!

Heat added.

when did you speak to them?

Original Poster

Late September as I had just bought the new iphone6

what is the coverage like?

The guy told you porkys.
Virgin mobiles fair use policy is 3.5GB if I remember correctly then they severley throttle the speed.
But £5 for that deal is a bargain if you can get it.

Are you a virgin media customer?

Original Poster

Coverage is good, no complaints there.

Paulandpam1, I thought that too but if I was to ever use more than 3.5gb I would probably state my case as all calls are recorded and I asked him to confirm there was no fair usage policy. I'll look into it though.

I am not a virgin media customer, which is why I was suprised I was offered such a deal having only been with them 3 months

I agree they have a 3gb fair usage policy I was with them for a few months, after reaching the 3gb the Internet totally dies down u can hardly open a web page ! But hot hot hot for this price!

3G is woeful in my area nowadays

everyone knows that only Virgin lies about unlimited internet

For customers who joined Virgin Media after 25 June 2012 excessive use over 3.5GB of data per calendar month will result in their maximum bandwidth being restricted to 3G speeds (384kbit/s downstream, 200kbit/s upstream) on our network. For customers who joined before 25 June 2012 excessive use over 2GB of data per calendar month will result in this restriction being applied. This policy will apply until the end of the calendar month, when it will be automatically removed. We reserve the right to review these usage levels from time to time. At this reduced speed, customers will still be able to browse web pages, send/receive emails, and stream audio and video all at 3G data speeds, but peer-to-peer and large file downloads/uploads will be slower than normal.

As an example, a customer would have to watch over 16 hours of high quality video before that threshold is reached. Typically far less than 0.25% of our customers will be affected on a monthly basis.

Your SIM is for use in the device applicable to your tariff. You cannot put your voice SIM into anything other than a mobile phone handset, for example a mobile broadband dongle, laptop or tablet.

16 and half hours of high quality? er no.

Using Now tv a 1 and half hour film was about 2.2gb.

my allowance last month was usage of 9.2gb, that is children using you tube monday to friday from about 3.30 to 4, then at weekends for about another hour, so a rough count would be 14 hours of usage in a month.

so roughly 3.5gb its 4 hours of usage a month, which sound a lot, but that is 1 hour per week, or about 8 minutes a day of you tube.

LeeLee6781, thank you for clearing that up!

For £5 a month I'm not complaining

Ok...I think it's fair to say those that don't use a lot of wifi would not benefit from this deal...Or those that use their mobile connection to watch netflix etc.

If anyone finds a better deal please do let us all know.

Pretty sure that somewhere it will state that this is for phones only and who regularly watches movies etc on their phone when not connected to WiFi?

do you have to be a virgin customer and is the discount automatially applied.

dial 789 on my phone but it keep going to main manu when I press 0 to continue. Anybody have this issue..?

Anychance you know who you spoke to.. Everytime i ring i get no deal..

I'm on this too.

just threaten them that you're going to leave

waki

choose the option .. "if you're thinking of leaving us... press.."

Do retentions work today??

Virgin called my bluff and cancelled lol....

well done op. I cancelled a £7.50 SIMO and spoke to UK call centre and the just accepted it. My 3 others SIMS though are of a similar deal to yours which was a off shore contact centre.

Note VM are about to upgrade there moblie platform with EE so good excuse to up the costs as there will be more features assoicated with the overall product.

Is it still on a rolling 30 day contract?

Retentions Discount is for Virgin Mobile customers.

This will NOT be available to anyone not allready a customer.

Join VM on a 30-day Sim only deal, then every 3-4 months call them and say your thinking about cancelling, they 'might' offer a discount to retain your custom, not guaranteed, but very likely.

The OPs (£5 pm) deal is the lowest they go I believe.

tchau

Virgin called my bluff and cancelled lol....

You will more than likely get a call back in a few days offering a discount.

I have 2 lines with Virgin Mobile since a couple of years on sim only rolling 30 day basis. I've had 1200 min, Unlimited SMS and 1GB data tariff for £6pm on both instead of £12pm since month 1 of contract (a couple of weeks into my contracts.

I'm not with Virgin Media but just Virgin Mobile.

I got the above deal (1200 min, Unlimited SMS, Unlimited data) for £6pm instead of stated £17pm back a couple of months ago on one of the 2 lines. With the other line (lowers usage) they insisted that the deal was not available).

Retentions deals are of course based on each individual account but top marks to Virgins retentions for retaining more customers than any other network (in my humble opinion).

Both Zelda and Phil from Retentions insisted that the data was unlimited in these tariffs with NO fair use restricted it to 2 or 3.5 GB - which is the case with some other tariffs. I use more on WIFI any way and the data speeds are not very good in my area in any case.

I did state this offer in the other recent VM retention deal threads.

I've rang them 3 times over the last 6 months to renegotiate a new deal. I've been with them almost 2 years and they won't lower the cost of my monthly rental. guess its the luck of the draw for who you speak to.

I would be all over this, when 4G kicks in

I've been with Virgin for over 10 years, have 3 mobile accounts and one of the big packages with high speed internet. The best sim deal they offered me was £14 for unlimited data, texts and 1200 minutes. They said I used too much data so it wasn't profitable to offer me a better deal!

nope no call... just a text message saying they will cancel on the 21/11/13..... it actually meant 21/09/14. Service was cut Saturday morning never mind, i'm on giffgaff now

Have been on this £5 a month deal for ages (years) , was a Virgin media/mobile customer when it started though

Very good deal and better than my £7.49 p/m deal, which I'll stick with because really anything under a tenner for unlimited data and plenty of minutes is a bargain.

Heat added.

Anyone else had any luck with this?

just use over 50 mb a day and they'll limit your speed too 2g !
i was on everything unlimited plan for £6.50 a month

i called them up and said whats the point of having unlimited if you're going to limit it everyday .

im sure its a lot less than so called 3.5gb limited policy !

i've moved too three , get minimum 3g speed everywhere and 4g at some places . never let me down been over a month

Edited by: "blood_game18" 5th Oct 2014

I'm on sim only and they lowered my plan from £10 to £6 a month 250 mins 1g unlimited text. Might ring them back and try and get a better deal. Heat added though
