Suspend Sky Sports payments on Virgin Media - still access the service but no payments

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Virgin are now suspending Sky Sports on their packages. I know Sky did this a while ago, but just noticed on the Virgin website that they have followed suit. Use the form on your account section of the website.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, we’re offering you the option of pausing your Sky Sports payments until the action resumes. We’ll let you know as soon as possible when this will be.

During this paused period, you will still be able to watch the Sky Sports channels. We’ll make this change as soon as possible, if we need anything from you we’ll get in touch, there’s no need to call us.

Just so you know, you don’t need to do anything once the action resumes, we’ll restart your payments automatically.

Thank you for your patience and consideration during this time.

Horrible company. Should do it by default. Not opting in
Call me skeptical, but I foresee a time in the near future when everyone comes to the end of a contract deal and the price jumps up on your virgin package, but virgin say you can't cancel as you still have x amount of month left on your contract because you paused sky sports. So a potential few months of reduced sky sports but for the same period having to pay top whack for all other channels.

Sorry Marv, it only mentioned SS. I was only looking to cancel the £5 pm HD supplement. But gave me the option to suspend Sky Sports instead.

My sky sports still works 3 days later, after pausing on sky

The virgin website state that I can still watch SS, maybe that’s the same with Sky?

They don't switch off the channels, you can still watch them. You just don't get charged for them
Thanks for the post. Only thing that's not stated is what proportion of the overall payment makes up the sky sports part. Still, a saving none the less

Beat me to it, my contract due to in May and was going to renew if I could get the same price, tempted to do this but can at it causing issues and being stuck with a expensive monthly fee with no discounts activated.
Thank you for that..
cheers

My contracts up in 3 days but with reported shortage of staff and their usual messing you about, can't be bothered to even attempt to negotiate a deal at the moment. May try next month
Can anyone see t&cs? I'm abit worried they will extend the contract at the end or the price will alter as I have a bundle package

Exactly what I’m waiting to see if anybody can clarify before I suspend. I could see my package jumping up to £120 rather than £70 once the teaser rates runs out and I have to run an extra 3 months.

Agreed, I’ll be interested. I was only planning to cancel the ludicrous £5 pm HD fee.... this seemed like the only option.

I see all of your points, and have got me worried now. I’d like to think there will be outrage if they added the contract on at the end. If I ever do get a confirmation email I will endeavour to share it here.

I was paying £79 a month (from a deal on here) for their VIP bundle, 350m internet, Sky and BT sport, line rental, free calls and all the sky channels, the contract runs out April and I was notified that the price would rise to £133.50.

I braced myself and rang Virgin to cancel, fully expecting a month long shadow dance of confusing ' special offers' that would all be much more expensive than my present deal, and expecting that I'd have to find another provider.

I said the price is going up by over £50 a month so I'll cancel, their rep said 'wait a minute, I'll see what we can do' he came back said that they unfortunately couldn't give me the same price, but they could give me the same package for ....... £ 83.00 a month!

It took about five minutes, no hassle at all.
I can’t see the option in my account. Does anyone have a screenshot to show me where the option for this is? TIA

You might need to use their desktop website, or app. Then choose upgrade or offers and it was on there. 🏻

I got it eventually. No idea how to suspend bt sports and their phone lines awful. Website is a joke when trying to remove channels.

You cant really suspend BT sports unless you are on a low TV package and buying it seperatly. BT sports is part of the maxit package which you cant pick and choose what channels you watch

Useless customer service (full of lying salespeople) and didn’t even apologise when there was that large internet outage across the UK. Trying to get something done over the phone with them is a mission - even if they agree, it’s 50/50 if it’ll ever be done...

That's not that cheap. I get their top package with everything you have, top fixed line phone not that I use it lol, unlimited sim, 2 x v6 boxes, 516mbs bband for £89 a month.
Thanks Op I will have some of that finally, been chasing them a week now about this via their horrible message service 🏻

Agreed, I upgraded from 200mpbs to 516mpbs and for a week got 0.5mpbs and for 2 weeks after that 20mpbs. Only better after and engineer came out. Still often get poor speeds because they get sloppy idiots messing about in the network who fix one issue and cause many others. Also had no skysports for 6 days.

This issue was in December, was promised goodwill, still waiting.

Yes I had similar. Promised a package that never happened and they totally denied, no call recorded... then meant to get M200 up from M100 - speed test shows no difference and latency & jitter are higher. They blamed my WiFi but it’s an expensive mesh network and was using Ethernet at the time anyway! I only tolerate them as the missus doesn’t want a satellite dish since we had the house rendered, honestly I don’t even want TV services really...
All the sports have stopped lol.
I m in a BT contract for another 8 month. How can I get rid off them?

It includes two boxes, in the original deal I also got £180 cashback, we also have free calls.

Seems like your broadband is faster and you have 'unlimited sim'.

Difference is that my original deal had run out, I think it's not bad for a retention deal.

So is your deal for new users or retention?

Just watch it as any offers will end on your current deal and they won't care that your paying a fortune and can't reduce. That's my fear as get about £50 discount a month.
