Hey there, it's probably me being stupid, but do you have a link for those strike days please? I can't seem to find it on their site... Thanks

EDIT: Nevermind, just found it on some news site. Thanks.

"Staff on Virgin Trains East Coast will stage three 24-hour walkouts on 19, 26 and 29 August."

Our friends in the RMT usually cancel the strikes after the first day 'for talks'. They don't get paid when they're on strike, so they usually announce the strike to cause misery, but then go back to work to get their inflated pay packets. Obviously you could get caught out if you risk it, but the majority of services still run even if they do strike.

My sister had booked tickets to Liverpool when they announced strike action. Dates were announced which coincided with her travel date. She switched to travel the day before, and also contacted the hotel to switch dates too (they did so at a cost). Then, with a week or so before the strike was to start, yup, they cancelled it...

Thanks man, I'll have a look around those dates.

Lucky I saw this pop up! Booked tickets to Eurogamer Expo in September, £25.49 before Cashback so not bad considering!

That's likely to be only for Virgin Trains West Coast, not for Virgin East Coast, so can't be used in conjunction with the East Coast sale.

Thanks OP Heat added, just got the 2 of us York-London 1st Class for £85 return in October.

Damn , i knew i should have waited

Not that great a deal,i tried Newcastle to London Kings cross,Mon 5 Sept leave 08:30 return same day 21:00 £40 out,£29 in, only a £15 saving to previously checked fares, the fares have risen significantly since Virgin took over east coast trains

The link to Earnaway should never have been posted. It takes you to the wrong Virgin site, which doesn't offer the cheap fares. People who have booked via that link may have paid twice as much as they should.

I have a ticket to travel up the 26th August already booked !

Damn I didn't even know there was a strike, I guess a refund is easy to get, yes ?????

Edit, well from their website, they have posted this... (Saying it will not affect train timetables, so should be okay ?)

12/08/16
Virgin Trains is reassuring customers that it will run a full timetable during the industrial action announced today by the RMT. The union says its members will walk-out for three 24hr stoppages on the east coast route on Friday 19 August, Friday 26 August and Monday 29 August. In addition there is an overtime ban on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August.

The union walked out of talks yesterday after refusing to enter further discussions.

Thanks, got tickets for £34.50 for the same return jouurney with the correct link

£17 midweek return London to Durham mid October,ie. £8.50 each way. Had to hunt around a bit. Got the Virgin email this morning and after seeing it on HUKD decided to get my skates on! Generally not that impressed with the Virgin takeover - prices gone up and trains really uncomfortable. Thought with the new trains they'd have improved them, but, no exactly the same! Terrible if you have long legs and with those high backed seats which throw your neck forward (whoever designed those!!!), it can be awful if you are boxed in with someone next to you.or worse, stuck at a table with people on other side. Shame because in years gone by I used to enjoy that journey; now it's just a means to an end and try and get a reasonable price. Happy at this offer though, so can't complain (too much!) (_;)

Strike strike strike. Not for me but heat given for the ticket price. If I booked a ticket I'd Wonder if I will be able to take the train that I was actually booked on , which is exactly what they want. Let them leave if they don't like the job. Try applying for certain jobs it aint goona happen unless you happen to be brother ,sister, aunt or uncle.

They haven't got any new trains yet. They painted the old trains, gave them new carpets and seat covers, but that was a branding exercise rather than improvements for passengers.

It's going to be another 2+ years before they have their new trains.

Ah well that explains why I thought they looked exactly the same! (_;) I just hope the 'real' new trains will be an improvement on the current stock.

excellent deals to be had here

I didn't post the Earnaway link, one of the moderators updated the link and original post to include it.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to edit it back (anyone know?), the original link has been posted on posts in here. I'm glad a number of you are getting deals.

then stop complaining

I'm complaining about the trains not the deal.
Service and trains have gone down hill since East Coast taken over by Virgin but if you want to travel north there isnt much choice. I would never travel full price on these trains. At these prices it makes the journey a little more bearable, let's put it that way!

need to book a train ticket in August so outside of the virgin sale dates but thought I might as well go via Earnaway for the cashback. I have used earnaway to book hotel in past and t&c states:

New Users only - If you have made a booking through EarnAway before it will be tracked but declined later

Thanks a lot for posting OP, just got a return to Glasgow from Durham next month for the princely sum of £14.75!

Just booked to go to Newcastle and when i went back on 10 mins later it had dropped by £5.50

doesn't show cheapest fares despite supposed 50% off already booked for much less the other day and nowhere near as cheap on this sale!!!
