I wonder if Austin Powers has anything to do with this sale...

Cheaper for me using family railcard

They can afford to do this after doubling many advance fares as soon as they took over earlier this year. Funny how that didn't get the usual Virgin PR machine treatment!

What happens with friends and family railcard if you have a 2 year old who would normally be free

£15 is the standard cheap fare from newcastle and durham down to london anyway. hardly a sale is it?

£13 Only available on weekend 7th nov onwards

Bit crap really not much around.

No Glasgow?

I think this statement "Only 1 ticket left at this price" ( that's all Monday ) !!
Origin:Leeds, 09:45
Destination:London Kings Cross, 11:59
Date:Mon 28 Sep 2015 Changes:0 Duration:2:14hrs
Valid on chosen East Coast Train service only. Non refundable. Non Changeable.
This sums up the callous, devious and manipulative nature of any Virgin company.
and of course i cannot get back the same day for ten pounds , no its thirty one!
bring back east coast trains !

Is it possible to get those kind of fares anymore though? I was looking for a trip down around the (now excluded) early October weekend dates, and had the alerts set up for TheTrainLine, expecting to get tickets for that kind of price. Went on within 2 minutes of the alert pushing to my emails, and the closest I could find was about £50.

Spoke to some of the lads at work who do on-site work and they said that it's pretty much par for the course these days and the era of sub £20 tickets is pretty much over.

I certainly couldn't find anything reasonable returning from London to Newcastle other than at stupid o'clock at night.

Excluding the school holidays... When did train services become like travel agents. Soon it'll be more expensive to catch a bus during the school holidays!!

Since it was re-privatised a few months back many fares have shot up so best to make use of this sale. After many years flying became a better option again even with airport travel etc, but this looks decent so will have a look.

No Glasgow?

Glasgow is served by Virgin Trains [West Coast] - ie services mostly on the West Coast mainline.

This offer is for Virgin Trains East Coast ("VTEC") - ie services mostly on the East Coast mainline - eg to Edinburgh, that were served by the publicly owned firm until Feb this year after previous franchise holders gave up.

That said Virgin Trains [WC] also do (occasional) sales - most recently at start of July.

No idea when next one is - though I'm interested as Milton Keynes based.

Otherwise there are some ongoing/occasional offers on Virgin Trains [WC]:

You must be looking at the wrong dates then. £10 standard singles are limited but there's plenty of £25 1st class tickets available.

VTEC KICKED IN YO!

Can't seem to find trains from london to Edinburgh return in mid sept (Around 18th). Anyone else having the same problems?

absolutely rubbish and typical of Virgin trains greed since they took over the east coast line - I've just searched the first week of the offer for Newcastle to London and not a single ticket available at £15.

Should have kept it as east coast and left it nationalised

It's really good news that these super-cheap fares are still being offered on the East Coast Mainline. I've taken advantage of them for years, as the train companies have changed three or four times. I found great deals to Edinburgh, Newcastle and York from Peterborough - especially when you consider how much it costs for relatively short journeys headed south from Bedfordshire or Cambridgeshire on Great Northern, Thameslink or East Midlands trains

Nice offer, if You can find suitable times.

£10 for a train?
not bad

Checked loads of weekends and not seen a single cheap ticket.

Boycott the train service until they bring in the costs in line with the rest of Europe. the prices in UK are a total joke for the distances traveled.
Our UK rail service has become a joke, once the crowning glory of the british empire now a worn out and overpriced joke.
I refuse to pay 1 cent even on special until they bring these costs in line with something even resembling a rational price for this country, especially for those poor workers who have little or no option with parking becoming so difficult in some places.

Uncle willy must be doing something wrong as we have looked at many dates can't find any at that price

Got two return 1st class tickets from Hull - London 7th/8th November for £100. The tickets were flagged up as special rates in the booking engine

2 x 1st Class Lon-Edn = £160.

I finally found some. Leaving Ncl at 10am on a Tuesday and returning at 8pm the following day.

Think you can forget weekends to be honest unless you don't mind getting home at 2am. In fairness, the site warns of this.

As an example, try saturday 19 september, put in Doncaster to london and you should find the £25 1st class single fare coming up on most trains in both directions. £50 for a 1st class return to London is a pretty good deal I reckon.

The £10 standard class fare's a lot more difficult to find so you may need to look at midweek trains late morning or early afternoon for that.

Can't book, don't have desktop.

Are there ever any Glasgow to Bristol or Reading cheap tickets, would like to visit elderly relatives without driving for once.

To those who aren't finding anything, you must search through the sale link, if you go through the usual homepage or if you timeout and search again the sale tickets won't come up. I've had no problem finding the tickets although weekend avaliaibility isn't so good, although plenty of first class which still brings decent value (E.G £35 return London to Leeds, std out, first class back)
