I know there are heaps of you who hate virginmedia because of traffic shaping, but if you know how to use it right (and even if you just partially know how to use it right) it absolutely whips competing products. I regularly push 400-500gb per month on my 20mbit without issue.

It appears they have a £100 credit on your first bill if you buy online, and quidco for the next 3 days has a £150 cash back.

It's £32.99 for the first 3 months, then £37.99, on an 18 month contract, but you get a possible £250 credit just for taking out the plan which is an absolute steal. No added costs - free installation, free HD box, free HD activation.

what tv package do you get?

Line rental is going up by 91p on 1st August...

But still a decent offer...

Any way to claim the cash back for existing customers?

Nope...

Changed from thinking it's not much of a deal to it's not bad with the quidco. I'm sure you can get a cheaper package though!

Hate having to pay for the line rental as our house phone is never used for outgoing calls.
With the cashback and credit, this is an excellent deal imo as the HD box and installation usually cost
Been with Virgin a number of years now and doubt we will ever change because the service has always been excellent and very reliable, we get a fairly good loyalty discount and having everything under one bill rather than all over the place is ideal.

.is there provider out that offers internet & anytime calls for about £20

I personally hate them because their customer service is **** shocking to say the least as I have yet again found out when ordering their HD box!

Think existing members could "force" a deal out of them through retention? I'm paying £42 for 10mb, phone line, and M+ TV (not much different to freeview to be honest) with the HD Box, and plusnet seem to be an appealing deal at the moment...

Even with the cash back and quidco it's still a rip off really. I got £7 bt line rental sky broadband unlimited £12.50 and I sync as 16mb ish and always get 1.6mb downloads on newsgroups, if I get 30mb but in the evening I only get 10mb them I'm paying more a slower service, unless u live miles away from your bt exchange then adsl is more than fine. If I paid for 30mb I would ecspect it. I would prob settle for 20mb in peak times as that's still faster than my equiv adsl.

I want to upgrade my package but knowing Virgin they will treat me (as an existing customer) like **** as they reel off that offer after offer is only for new customers.

if you're with o2 for mobile, then i'd say go for their line rental and BB (broadband). BB is top, as o2 bought out Be* which was fantastic when I was with them.

How long have you been with Virgin?
I pay £44 for phone with free evening and weekend calls, 10MB BB and XL TV with a HD Box. I get £19.50 loyalty knocked off the usual amount.
M TV package is not even worth paying for imo.

I fail to see how this is a rip off?

You get L Broadband (10mb), M+ TV( 65 channels) and M phone with line rental (free weekend calls) for £32.99 a month

£32.99 X 12months = £395.88

£395.88 - £250 (£150 quidco + £100 virgin) = £145.88

£145.88 / 12 months = £12.15

£12.15 a month for all 3 including line rental is HOT isn't it?

They will even give you the XL broadband (30mb) free for 6 months for the same price as the L broadband 10mb. You also get free installation and free Virgin HD box (doesn't record)

I've been with them almost 2 years now, and they did offer me free eveining/weekend calls to landlines; but who uses landline these days? I only have it because of the package deal.

To be honest, all that has me sticking with them is the internet, and since they apply some crazy discount for having a landline for TV, thought for an extra £15 a month, why not. How did you get the loyalty price. Might give them a call this evening and enquire...

I've been with Virgin 6 years, no issues and have just singed for another year, 500gb Tivo, Plus extra V+ plus, XL TV, 30meg BB and medium phone - £46 a month! always been good and on Demand is great.

I'm not too sure how the loyalty works, it's been on my account for ages - I think it's more 'keep paying the same price as we put it up for new customers.' Been with Virgin (formerly Blueyonder) for about 7 years. I've explored moving elsewhere for a cheaper deal but it's not worth it. I don't even need a phone line but you are penalised badly for not having one.
The package that I am on at the moment was actually a new customer offer about 3 years ago. It was better than the deal I was on at the time so I rang them and made it clear I wanted that deal. They gave me it on the condition that I signed up for a new 12 months which was fine with me. Similarly last year they were giving V+ HD Boxes for free to new customers and charging £50 to existing customers. Kicked up a fuss and they gave me it and installed it for nothing. Just a couple of examples that Virgin usually make a good effort to keep their customers.

Oh yeah? was that your 1st retentions deal? i have one already, but mine is around £65 PM for 20mg, XL TV, and a phone line.

That's a hell of a deal. Did you have to sign up for a new 12 months for this?

i have been with them for close to 12 years now, i tried to get that deal but the lady (who was very helpful for once) said they CAN do that offer no problem BUT there is no way they can do the 30meg. if you did get it, whoever did so will more than likely be out of a job shortly as in there memos its states clearly the max internet they can do is 20meg under this offer. i get the install next thursday

I've recently signed up for the 30Mb package as advertised on TV. I've tested the download rates at various times of day using 5 or 6 test engines at their default settings (search on Google under ADSL speed test to find them). The results I'm getting range from 31.5Mb to 36Mb - the average being around 32Mb - including at peak times in the evening.

If you're on the 30meg service, your cable modem is actually hard coded to that speed - officially 3333000 bps to allow for overheads. If you get anything more than that, it shows just how inaccurate most speed testers are.

Regardless of the maximum speed, if you actually use all that bandwidth, you'll easily hit traffic limits. Starting with being slowed down and ending with a **** letter in the post. I speak from experience.

Traffic limits and associated hours are shown here shop.virginmedia.com/hel…tml

If you're going to download out of hours, it's not an issue. But it you're going to leave it overnight, you also don't need a fast connection.
