I might give this a try. We've thought for a while now that we were getting 20mb broadband, turns out it's only 10mb!

Further to that, we have a scientific webstar dpx100 which we've had since we first got our broadband from telewest blueyonder (around 2001-2) which is giving up the ghost!

If I can get them to up the broadband to 20mb and update our modem we'll be happy!

Beware this scummy company. If you miss a single payment they hammer you with extortionate charges, cut off your connection, take you to court and nuke your credit rating. Despicable thugs.

Don't miss a payment then.

I contacted them yesterday about intermittent BB connection and they refunded me 2 weeks charges! For a couple of days of slow service.

at the movement this deal on their website

Broadband, TV & Phone

£24.56
a month for 6 months
then £46.56 a month

Plus a Virgin phone line for £12.24 a month

Save £22 a month for 6 months
£50 bill credit & free installation

Broadband: Up to 20Mb

I'm waiting till their Tivo box comes out, then I'll give this method a shot

It will be out soon but £25/month JUST for the box on top of all the other costs... + £200 initial cost.

This deal will also only be offered to certain people if you get the right person on the phone.

What is a tivo?

That's a really good deal!

I recently was going to do the same. I called up to cancel and they offered me:

10mb BB
XL Phone

and I had to pay an extra £4.99 for a router

all for £23.49 for 12 months!

Can't believe the didn't offer me this! lol Have been with them for 5 years!

Dont miss a payment then and £10 is hardly extortionate by todays standards.....best BB around, constant speed unlike skys claims of upto 20meg, you actually get 20 meg with virgin.

I'm glad I switched from VM and would never go back. Too many problems (and cost) to list here.

Initial costs are high -- Virgin wants £200 for the box, plus £40 for someone to install it. Unusually, you don't own the box, despite the £200 outlay -- you're effectively renting it from Virgin Media, so, if you leave the service, you have to hand the box back. The plus side of this is that Virgin Media will fix any problems with the box 'for free', rather than requiring you to buy another box out of your own pocket, but it's strange to hand over so much cash for something you won't own.

if anyone thinks you will be paying no more than 25.99 then dream on, expect a few more digits added to your bill in statements to come.

Only good thing about this joke company is the broadband is quite reliable. Their goal is to take every penny from their customers the s.c.u.m (feel sorry for those who don't have time to check their bills cause im sure thousnads of people have been rinsed out).

If you decide to give virgin your money then if you can record your phone conversations and get them to repeat the deal clearly so you can hold that against them once they start overcharging you because no doubt they will.

for those thinking this is a load of **** then you haven't been stung YET.

Just called them up Finger Crossed that why will call back and retain me with such a epic deal!

Good Luck make sure you ask them for V+HD Box and 50Mb Broad band and please make sure they don't charge you for delivery b,coz they tried on me and i said no to them !!!!

Edited by: "tam_mo" 28th Dec 2010

their "service" actually sucks as well as they throttle the speed at peak hours which means you only get full speed when you're asleep. and they send threatening letters if you download a lot. avoid if at all possible.
Edited by: "popoyaya" 28th Dec 2010

Not fully read all threads yet but, v interested in going elsewhere from VM. Not voted yet

good luck with the super hub ahhaha, piece of crap net gear trash, normall that would be a good deal but in next 2 months it will not look so good when they roll out sum upgrades and tivo kicks in,and hd on virgin media is nothing like sky HD,i use virgin for net but stick with sky for tv,and anyone out of contract with virgin just go through to the cancel team and u can blag a good deal aswell.they usually give u good options if u say ur going to SKY and visa versa with sky

Yes just call 150 and select 2 for leaving virgin media!!!!!!

Does the price go up after a certain period and are there any hidden charges

At the moment i get charged £33 for phone (XL) and broadband (M) which is seriously high for what i am getting

Yeah, i would like to know if the price goes up too and did you get it in writing if not. I am paying £55 for 20MB BB, XL phone and XL TV. We have been with them for years so may give it a go. We are not bothered about the phone xl but would like to keep the TV XL and broadband at least 20MB.

Not yet, Going to phone them tomorrow morning, ill let you know if anything changes. I doubt it because i phoned up a week ago and i wanted to upgrade from 10mb to 20mb, the lady goes it will be about £16 more

Just rang up to cancel our services with Virgin Media as we are paying £55.14 for Broadband XL, TV XL and Phone XL which to a new customer would work out over 18 months at about £51 per month (taking into account he says that we are actually getting a £27 discount applied - yeah right!! and we have been with VIrgin for over 10 years!!) and they say they cannot do anything better. I asked about reducing our services to M+ TV and Weekend calls plus 20MB BB and they said it would be £44 a month. So much for lovalty discount.... we have cancelled now come 4th Feb and going over to sky.

They also said that they could NOT offer any existing customer a discount like a new customer.

My advice, go over to SKY

New customer
Broadband XL
TV XL
Phone XL
18 month contract
£24.56 for first 6 months
£46.56 after that
Virgin phone line 12.24

Monthly cost £36.80
£36.80 for first 6 months
£58.80 after that
INCLUDING LINE RENTAL

36.80 x 6 = 220.80
58.80 x 12 = 705.60
Overall cost 926.40 divided by 18 months =
£51.46 PER month

OUR cost and been with them forever over £55.00 (which they say includes a lovalty discount of £27 per month!!! Am I missing something here?

Have telephoned them again to speak to someone else this time as the person I spoke to was insistant on the price that I have quoted from their site being exclusive of Line Rental (which it was not) and I have agreed to stay with them uncontracted with
20MB BB
M+ TV and just Weekend calls for £38.74......(believe me only for now that is!!)

Everything fine as we thought BUT went to the TV to turn on BBC1 HD as is included FREE with m+ (without the Pause, rewind etc that we had free with the XL TV) and lost ALL HD channels.... called them back and they said because we had a V+ box they would have to cancel ALL the HD content even though it is free to other customers on that pack BUT if we paid to have another box without the "+" bit then we could get the free HD channels... this means them sending someone out to do this and they are "only" charging us £19 (cause we paid to have the other installed 2 years ago!!) to do this. How stupid is that... we now have to wait 9 days for any HD TV. (GRRRRR)
How cost effective is that.... we still have no loyalty discount applied cause they say they do not give any if you downgrade.
Edited by: "marshallka" 4th Jan 2011

Its always the Phone Line that annoys me, so expensive for VERY little use! I got a bit of a storming deal which has been allowed to run from back in the NTL days ... Phone line and 20MB Line rental - £20pm. To add any TV package to this means having to go onto one of thier exsisting packages which works out as loads more! Shame...if it was only anouther £5 for the basic package I would do it! Even maybe £10.
