So did I just to check my account as it was 1 year old a few days ago. It said free upgrade to 100mb. I thought brilliant but then with further investigation I noticed they had double my bill from £29 a month to £58 .I am happy with service but not at that price.

Would be good if they had a router that could really manage that speed.

Decent connection but train wreck router

These "free" upgrades are to rope you into a new contract...

Free from 100Mbps to 200Mbps

Really ?

We had a letter months ago explaining price increases and to compensate they would be increasing us from 50 to 100 so this is why.

Chances are if you was only with them. For 1 year that's your price after the first 12 months promo price

I got 50mbps, and i receive only 18-mbps (lucky if i get 25mbps) and i pay £27, so if i change it to 100mbps what am i looking for (speed) ?
one thing i noticed is that virgin will rise ^ the price in a few months. just saying.

I get 230Mbps on my Super Hub 3, I'm on 200 meg.
How much off is it speed?

Brilliant thanks.

Nothing for me £45 pm for basic player package at 100Mbit; going to freesat and broadband only at the end of this contract period...

You must live in a densely populated urban area.

Nowt for me.

Why am I only getting 100mbs lan connection speed on a direct wired connection from the virgin router to my gigabit lan card?

150 to 200 for me.

Can't ever complain about speeds tbh. Always 125+ whenever I speed test

Just checked with their online team, they said it will not affect my contract term.

Nothing’s free with Virgin, expect a price rise lol which usually means you can renegotiate a much cheaper price... I dropped phone and broadband and got Mix TV for £15 a month.

edit: I still got £220 TCB later for original Mix bundle when I downgraded due to price changes within 2 months, TV works out as 15months free

Done my free upgrade on Wednesday morning, still nothing. Superfast speed...

Check your ethernet cable is cat 5e or better cat 6....some cheaper cat 5e cables are dodgy and can only handle cat 5 speeds (100 Mbps)

Yep, I got the free upgrade from 100mb to 200mb!

On a serious note, it sucks that people only find out about this offer via logging into their online account, and that you have to opt for the upgrade, rather than it just being automatic. It also would have been nice to receive the offer via direct contact like an email, etc. I'm sure there are many people that are completely unaware of this.

Because you are on an offer you need to do the cancellation thing, cancel say you are going elsewhere and they normally come back in 2 days with an offer. Just did it, 200Mb for £28, or 100 for £22.

anyone can cancel at the moment with the recent price rise, you have to check though as the letters went out recently and you only have 31 days to get out of any contract you are in.

the upgrade from 50 to 100 may have been on your account for about a year, most places were updated last year early this.

One one watch out just because you have 100 or more your device may only be able to cope with less each device is different and has a maximum WiFi they can run.

They don’t offer 150 any more if you change you have to go up or down and it will cost you with our retention deal it cost a quid more to go to 200 than we had been paying but something like £15 cheaper than the normal price if not more.

Iam on good 12 months deal with virgin (50mb) for £15/Month. If I take this free upgrade (haven't checked my account yet) will I lose my deal? Or will I get the 100mb for the same £15

My contract is ending and they offered me 100 download for £26 or £32 for 200. Think Ill just cancel and use my my EE MAx plus instead for £20 including calls and texts I get 70 download on that here.

Seems like all the prices for BB are going up but nothing has really changed apart from their greed.

I would say Virgin Internet is so much better than the BT or sub providers ie Sky, Plusnet, talktalk, but there customer service is about the same as BT ie Crap.

BT should be broken up and the UK Internet service needs a revamp as so called Fibre - 'copper wire to your house' sucks big time. At least Virgin gives a coaxil to your house

Thank you for heads up, just did it, and looks like I have to wait few days for upgrade.

I went on online chat last night as got email in Aug saying we would get an upgrade from 50mb to 100 later this year but now near the end of the year and no sign of it.
In chat said nothing showing up in our account about it so have sent copy of e mail to complaints department.

My contract is up in a few months time (February), and wondering what sort of deal you would all expect me to get? - Has anyone been on the same package and done this themselves recently? - If so, what were you offered.

I'm on the Player TV package with TiVo, 100Mbps internet, line rental and weekend calls for £20/month. The full price of this package is apparently £48 per month.

did a webchat, they rang up and upgraded it to 200mb from 150mb

Virgin have just upped my speed from 100 Mbps to 200 Mbps as well, unfortunately they also raised the price this month from £25 to £28 per month for fibre internet only. Decisions, decisions (Oh dear) - stay with my new super fast internet or find a cheaper deal, which will almost certainly be, at a far lower speed.

This isn't true, I got a free upgrade to 350Mbps and my contract wasn't renewed.

Me too hub 3 soooooooi much better than super crud 2

Had the "free" upgrade before (twice), always followed by a price increase. If you're not getting the existing speed, you won't get the newer speed either. We're frequently throttled to as low as 10% of the total speed (20mb out of 200).

If you've got good competition in the area you'll get a good deal to stay, otherwise complaints and retention won't want to know.

Nothing is free as they say....
