many many reviews for the cheaper headsets state the obvious: it's just google cardboard but made of plastic. It's more of a novelty than something you'll use more than a few times. Waste of money.
If you have an Samsung Note 5 or S6/S7 you can get the Gear VR which goes for ~60 on ebay now. Much better spend

Thanks for that, I though as much to be honest, the reviews on Firebox dont seem too bad but Google disagrees... I think Ill wait til his birthday and treat him to the better one :)......

If he's into gadgets, they are a good bit of fun. Short term maybe, but I'd be pleased if I got one instead of an egg!
I went for this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baofeng-Virtual-Reality-Goggles-Glasses/dp/B01BRCY46U/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1458214497&sr=1-2&keywords=mojing

Comparable quality (and cheaper) than the Gear VR , plus it works with iphone and a free controller. I have just returned one of the cheaper headsets as the field of view was terrible, not immersive at all. with something like this your get near 100 degrees instead of 50/60.

What's this like in reality ? Do you need specific apps on your phone to run a separate picture for each eye ? Just thinking about watching movies etc

I will let you know when i receive it tomorrow! There are plenty of apps available though... VRSE & JauntVR are really good. I believe you need to select SBS option for viewing videos on youtube etc and there are special media players available for normal content..
