Doesnt the xbox 360 do all this and about £50 cheaper??

360 isnt wireless by default (so not £50 cheaper), plus the noice is worse than a PC! As a result i just use mine for gaming and ps3 for media needs.

Xbox 360 is really quite loud, too loud to watch a movie, but you are right, if you get yourself a nice little dell base unit for the same price and just stick it in a cupboard near your tv problem solved.

Not voting either way as I can't see how the price for this is justified.

xbox 360 doesnt have wireless built in - however the wireless is pointless if you cannot play HD content over it, may as well have a wired Xbox, the "newer" xbox's are much better noise wise, although still louder than a HTPC.

personally not voting as I would definitely buy a 360 over one of these

Mine is dated Aug 08 and still sounds like a small jet engine, and that's before the disk drive kicks off!

The obvoius solution to this is to just buy a HDD media box - costs around £30 for the actual unit and

Better to get Popcorn Hour A-110 www.popcornhour.com, it's the dogs danglies.

Thanks Callum.

I'm not going to buy one as for an extra 60 quid or so you can buy a 40Gb PS3 (£249.99 in-store & online at HMV) that will allow the same funtionality (I believe).

But good spot for those on a budget &/or those who may wish to distribute the same signal around the house to other TVs.

Maybe it is, but buying one at all is a challenge, and buying one that will have a warranty you can ever use is a lot harder still, as it usually means buying it abroad :-(

It also does not support BBC iplayer and similar DRM like this device and the NetGear EVA8000

I would suggest the NetGear EVA8000 as a lower price alternative:

amazon.co.uk/exe…EE/
Currently 130 quid at Amazon
Both the Linksys and the Netgear seem to have an element of mixed reviews though, the trouble with all of this kit seems to be, NOTHING is quite perfect ;-(

The answer to streaming problems whatever you buy is easier - forget wireless, use powerline ethernet, preferably 200Mb/s

I think this is a good deal, I dont think the xbox 360 is a serious mce extender as by the time you have got the remote and wireless it will cost more than this and be noieser.
