I unlocked mine via an ebay seller when the phone first came out - paid £8. Unlocking the phone was easy.

Why is this still Vodafone exclusive? It was supposed to be released sim free in black after a month, that's what I heard.

Is it a good phone?...Don`t know a lot about phones to be honest.

How does it compare to the Nokia Lumia 710 for £99.95 at CPW?

Talkmobile SIM doesn't require unlocking (uses Voda network) if you are looking for a budget provider.

I'm pretty sure its a 3 month exclusive. No word on the street that any of the other uk networks will be taking it on. Expect sim free to be more expensive as wont be subsidised by a network provider.

Got this for my son for his Birthday last month. TCB of a fiver through Vodafone and same cost to unlock it via ebay.
This handset is every bit as good as the original SGS (ny wife has one) other than the lack of onboard memory, but an amazon £15 deal for a 32Gb sandisk class 4 soon got round that,
A great great phone for the money.
Don't know why the Amazon deal should be so special though with no TCB or Quidco available......

The phone is excellent for the money. It's not actually mine, it's my GF's and she loves it. I have a HTC Desire (£400 two years ago!) and this phone is better. She's had a San Francisco and a Samsung Galaxy Ace before the Huawei and the Huawei is a big step up on both. Good points - nice big, bright 4" screen, stock firmware is absolutely fine (no need to install custom rom unless you really want to); plenty fast enough for everyday use; I think the latest version of ICS is scheduled for release for this phone later in the year (most phones on the market today won't get that update). Negatives - none really at the price, build quality is not iphone/top of the range android standard (but is quite acceptable) and obviously screen is not a HD retina display or as good as a top of the range samsung or HTC, but then they'd cost £350 more.

I can't compare to the Nokia - that runs Microsoft's phone operating system rather than Google's Android and I've not spent much time with Window phones.

Hope that helps!

Oh and it's been promised an Ice Cream Sandwich update at some point too.....

Do you have to buy a topup if you get it from Vodafone?

Brought this from vodafone, unlocked it on ebay for £5
Phone is really amazing value for money I think.
very responsive, camera is good, internet works well, text and calls are fine..

Very good phone for the money.

Good spot, great phone. The unlock for free at Vodaphone store are harder to come by now. An ebay unclock from CellUnlockerPro costs £5. Vodafone ask for £20 for an unlock and a £10 top up for instore purchase. One way around the in store £10 top up is to purchase a SIM from a Pound store. Ask at the checkout of Poundland. There is no need to top up to activate the SIM there is a number to text to activate the SIM or they will do it instore.

Before buying instore ask for a free unlock. If they say no purchase from the Vodafone site via Quidco / Topcashback for £5 cashback. When you get the phone check it is acually locked! Sometimes they send out contract G300s these are unlocked! ONLY if the unit is locked (drop in a non voda SIM and check) do you need to order an unlock for £5 on ebay.

On Modaco you can find custom ROMs and lots of great stuff to debrand and dejunk the phone and desktop apps for SMS, and contact management.

Cases are around £3 from China or £7 from the UK. Screen protectors are £2.60ish from eBay from a UK supplier. Avoid the ones from Germany that I purchased they suck. Reviews and photos on Modaco.

The are instructions to install the Sony Bravia engine on this device to improve the already great video playback.

Nice phone, fast and well made for this price point. Also ARM7 so BBC iPlayer works fine.

Great phone, £5.50 to get it unlocked. Remove a lot of bloat ware easily. Rooted using Modaco website. All in all a great phone.

Great phone - but surely not a deal! Has been this price from Vodaphone for two months.

Lumia is a great phone and probably better hardware than this unit (though its a close call) the downside of the Lumia is that some regions (like the UK) do not have micro SD slots. The G300 will take micro SD (pick up a 32gb micro SD card from ebuyer or play for under £12 for a branded one!

In terms of CPU the Nokia 710 and the G500 are the same and the memory is the same. The big difference is the operating system. Your choice.

I love the tweaks and the upgrades possible on the G300. So for me the G300 wins due to

1) Near identical spec
2) Phone OS has a future with lots of current and future upgrades
3) Micro SD card support

It's a really good price but wouldn't mind having it on O2, not sure if I should wait or just buy it and then have it unlocked.
At this price, can't imagine it being sold for any less any time soon.

Decisions, Decisions .. I've certaintly waited patiently for a new phone have the K800i came out in 2006!

Go for it, you deserve it after 6 years. I have been looking at a Samsung Galaxy 2 but am seriously considering this and saving £250 !

online no but £10 min instore unless you have a vodafone sim then £100 for the handset only. got it yesterday and very impressed with it for the price. looks like a htc and very well built considering the price. seriously if your on a budget, get this you will not be dissapointed.

Amazon claim to be selling the Black version although most of the pics are of the standard one.
If it is the Black one I'd be more interested

Nokia Lumia 710

+ Nokia do good cameras (generally), Huawei not so good
+ Nokia Drive/Maps
+ Cheaper parts (as per big brand manufacturer)

Any idea when I can expect my TCB to track? Been almost 24hrs and nothing.

Which courier do they use and how long does a store delivery take?

if this phone is out on a different network in a few months will it become cheaper or just stay as 100?

@Kyle,

that's unfortunate, have a good success rate with TCB, especially where there is tracking statistics. But then there are statistics, lies, damn lies and statistics.

Anyone know about Vodafone delivery? Couldn't wait for their SIM's to take in for an upgrade.

It might actually be in black..

That's not ever so black though really. Anyway oos on the pre order now.

Rubbish.

Rubbish.

Well will wait and see then. They have always been in the past for newly released phones, cant see why this phone would be any different.

Gingerbread?
No thanks.
Not voted as this is a good price. Sure there are ICS ROMs for this around . . .

I was seriously tempted to get this and unlock it via ebay, but as that will presumably void the warranty I guess the cautious person inside of me will have to wait the remaining 5 weeks until the exclusive deal goes away.

I'm assuming this handset being sold by Amazon when it is released will be in the black/silver style and still network locked to Vodafone???... If so, I might be tempted, because it's gonna be the black/silver one which I was waiting for to come out + the easy ebay unlock & ics update ( bar it coming out very late in the year though ) adds to the mix as well!

Received mine yesterday although from voda. I gotta say first impressions are its pretty good.

Was between this, HTC Radar or the Lumia 710. Went for this as its got: sd slot, removable battery and is on android with a promise of an ICS upgrade over the air anytime now. So you know you ain't gonna be lacking on apps\support going forward.

Just throwing everything at it atm to see what it'll support\play... then get the apps for the stuff it don't do.

So far so good, £100 for something that don't cheap out when it comes to features you can't moan. Seems quite intuitive and easy to navigate from what i've seen.

The GPS works alongside google maps\navigate to provide GPS out-the-box. I have yet to install IGO on it (standalone satnav.)

Comes with its own file manager, so you don't have to mess around before you can start installing your apps\games. Slipped a micro sd card in and it seems to default to using that.

Installed a few games on it the quality\fps is excellent for a phone at this price, although i have not got round to some of the meatier titles, like GTA, Fifa or SF4.

Just in time for the football...Olympics... Wimbledon too, get in! Unlike a few other phones at this price that i read, it supports flash and such, I've already got the BBC and ITV players installed.

My only nag is the capacitive buttons under the screen suck... hard. Unless you get it spot on you'll have to hit em a few times until it registers. You know it ain't you because they light up and the phone vibrates (by default.) Its a shame, but because you've got a nice sized touch screen i'm sure you'll find away around having to use them much.

Just paid a fiver for the unlock code off ebay. There seems to be a good selection of accessories on there too.

Its got all the features of a phone twice the price and with ICS coming to the handset any day now I think you will struggle to find a compatible handset for the same amount of wonga.

Oh and a few reviews\ specsheets i seen for this phone claim its a 1350 battery. You'll be pleased to know its a 1500.

can you name any Lumia phone in any region that can take microSD cards?

Anyone else have issues with connecting to wifi? I bought one for my gf and it won't work with wifi at my house (brand new super hub from virgin) her house or the hotel she's currently in, in Spain. I may take it back to vodaphone.
Also to add, before anyone buys an unlock code, check if its unlocked anyway. O2 works without unlocking (though I did remove bloatware but not rooted).

A code unlock, which this one sounds like, won't invalidate the warranty.

Quite a few people at my work bought these. Awesome, in fact unbeatable for the money. Nice screen, good build quality, they feel a lot more expensive, gorilla glass, easy and cheap unlock from eBay. Much, much recommended.
