I have put together a summary of how to get the most out the the Vodafone roaming deal for non vodafone/pay as you go customers, by adding one of the following packages;

£10 = 100 minutes and 300 texts.
£15 = 200 minutes and 600 texts.
£20 = 300 minutes and unlimited texts

1) Order your free SIM (see link on next post). When you receive your Sim card you should register it by calling 2345.
2) Topup your card with a voucher or bank card.
3) Then sign up for the Passport promotion by texting PASSPORT to 2345
4) Just before you go abroad, convert your topup to one of the above packages, by calling 2345.
(Packages only last 30 days, so you don't want to convert your topup until just before you need to use it.)

great post.

shame roaming only covers the EU, not that I think there will be reception where I'm going anyway, it should include the EU anyway, we're intergrated in every other way.

Worth adding this here, sim only 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £15 a month

Andy

Thanks for this. Have just ordered sim for an old unlocked Nokia. Daughter is off to Hungary with school in the summer so will top up sim before she goes and she can text home whenever she likes then.

if I do this and then redirect calls from my main UK number to this SIM, how is it going to be priced when abroad ? I presume people will be calling my main number, redirected to Vodafone SIM, and should I have to call back, I will dial from Vodafone SIM ...

hot for effort

thanks 4 ordered

Thanks Andy, this seams a good deals, but as it's a 12 month contract, it may not be so good for people wanting to switch to Vodafone just for their holiday. What d'you think?

Original Poster

I think you will only pay your mobile company's standard rates for calls to UK mobiles.

Dont forget to add Quidco cashback to this deal.

Vodafone are offering the following cashback on SIM only contracts.

30 Day Contracts.

£15 for the £10 per month 30 day SIM only tariff.
£25 for the £15 per month 30 day SIM only tariff.

12 Month Contracts.

£40 for the £10 per month 12 month SIM only tariff.
£60 for the £15 per month 12 month SIM only tariff.
£120 for the £20 per month 12 month SIM only tariff.

Understood, but if the 12 months doesnt matter to you I think its a good deal, I actually got this for 2 of my kids, been topping them up £15 a month on 02 for ages, so now they get 600 mins and unlimited texts (plus use when we in Spain next month) for the same money

thanks for that jtomo64, would have forgot about quidco otherwise.

75p connection charge for each call MADE AND RECEIVED, it says in the smallprint, even for inclusive minutes. so better for longer calls rather than many short ones?

I also thought this when I received the SIM card. However the 75p connection charge is their non-promotional price to make and receive calls, for the 'Passport' add on.

Between 1st June and 31st August, this charge does not apply to any call. It is free to receive calls within the specified countries, and the standard UK rate to make calls - which could be as cheap as 6.5 pence per minute, if you buy one of the above packages.

Can both these offers be used togather while abroad?

The freedom pack t +c's say . . . .

3. Usage: Texts and minutes included in your Pack are for UK use only (excluding Isle of Man and the Channel Islands) to standard UK landline numbers (beginning 01, 02, 03), standard UK mobiles and voicemail. You will be charged at your standard price plan rate for any out of Pack use and / or if you use all your minutes or texts before your Pack runs out. Any unused minutes or texts will be lost when your Pack runs out.

Sorry for delayed reply - I was abroad!

Yes, I have added the 300 min package, and have been able to use it as part of my roaming minutes while I was away.

However you need your PUK number before you add a pack. This can be found in the SIM pack which your receive from Vodafone.

Just back myself and this worked a treat in Spain, loaded ctwo phones and was able to keep in contact in resort plus very cheap calls back home.
Also texted to mate who was in Amsterdamn while I was in Spain and it came out of the allowance as well.

Heat an Rep added, cheers "intime".
