Hi There,

This may go soo cold... but I've done a lot of research and I truly believe this is a pretty compelling deal. I haggled for over an hour with Vodafone support for a better deal at the end of my contract and I got:

* 3 months free
* 8 GB data
* Unlimited calls & Texts
* 12 Months NowTV or Spotify

Total cost £151 over 12 months.

YES, you can probably get the 8GB package on Mobiles.co.uk or E2Save for less, but it is my understanding that this does *NOT* include the entertainment package which is a huge part of why this is a good deal.

That is a good deal - far better than I managed to get :-/ Wonder why some people are offered better deals than others.

:O how did you manage that xD The rep was absolutely unwilling to offer anything else. GJ.
It’s a good deal, but for a couple of pounds more per month you could get 30Gb of data. I didn’t have to haggle too much, I just pointed out better data deals from Virgin and ee. My deal is 30Gb, unlimited text and minutes and entertainment package. £20 pm but with 3 months free in the form of £60 account credit, makes it £180 for the year/£15 pm. 12 month contract. I was ready to jump ship because Vodafone customer services are atrocious but I use Spotify a lot and couldn’t really justify spending the extra £10 on top of another contract. I got this through chat from cancellations department. I’ve since had to chase them up because they did not add the credit and whoever I spoke to did not believe the deal. Fortunately I always keep the chat transcript so it was easy enough to prove. Like I say, terrible customer services but unfortunately for me it’s the best network around where I live. If you can afford a couple of pounds more and you’re still within your 30 day cooling off period it might be worth going online for a chat.
Wife had lots of hassle with her similar only, offered her 28 quid for 8gig etc. She had a moan a week later and got 16gig unlimited etc for 16quid a month with Spotify. Vodafone really didn't care.
Im currently on a similar deal but with 16GB for £15, prior to that same again but with 8gb for £11 which they said they wouldn't do anymore, Both came with with the Entertaimant Pack.

Both of my deals were (So Called) half price Retention deals, but it seems to go up over the years rather than down.
Virgin are killing them all with their £20 SIM only 12 month contract for 100gig of data.

Yup, I saw that but since Virgin do not allow tethering I believe that's a deal breaker for most people including myself.
Thats a good deal when i left a mointh ago i was paying £13.50 for 3GB and 600 mins / unlimited text.I must admit i had not kept an eye on my bill which originally was £9 pm inc VAT ( which they always denied when i would challenge them ) they then started to charge me 87p per month out of contract fee.NEVER ONCE rang me to say they were doing this,and then 3 months before i left they said they would get back to me.Never did.Only reason for call was asking if i wanted to upgrade,cheeky robbing b####rds.When you say your paying to much they then offer a deal thats £8 + pm more and ask you what do you think !!!.So i gave notice looked round as it was christmas / new year time and went else where.A phone to me is just a phone, dont really need to be watching tv on it.Paying £9 pm with 4GB unlimited minutes / text.And got a £50 argos voucher coming soon.
My daughter's SIM only finishes tomorrow, I've twice tried & all they will give me is 8gb incl Spotify £19.60 after discount. I need to stay with Vodafone because of the signal, I've also got 2 x more lines with them but they won't budge
Best I've been offered this time is 500 minutes, unltd texts and 5gb for £10.80pm. They probably would have added Spotify etc to that if I'd pushed for it, but I already share a family account. Not bad if you are a relatively low data user like me. Keep in mind they will increase the cost of the tariff in line with inflation in April. Personally I'm so sick of their diabolical customer service that I'm looking elsewhere.

I don't understand why they won't budge, why is it that some people get the offers and some don't ?
Maybe order a PAC code from them, show them you are serious at leaving. You don't actually have to leave but that should get them to offer you something better. Obviously don't tell them Vodafone is the only signal you can get, tell them about other offers. Maybe some else has experience of what to do here.

That's a cracking deal, I might try again. A few days ago I managed to get down to the equivalent of £136/yr after discounts (£11.33/month) for 8GB, unlimited calls and text for 12months. I also had an additional saving of the 30days notice at a much higher rate, plus saving the hassle of number transfers or redemptions through mobiles.co.uk.

The fact that you got entertainment added in is fanstastic!

I got a pac code last week, had no callback from retentions, called & spoke to retentions twice. The contract finishes tomorrow, so I think I'm going to have to go with mobiles.co.uk with a cashback deal which I don't want to do really. My only thought is that the current contract (20gb) had a vea discount (30%) which is now 15% for new contracts.

Last time i was renewing i quoted a deal that my cousin was on with vodafone at that time, they matched it after offering me some silly openers ... well almost matched it ... 50p difference. Maybe try quoting the deals retentions are giving others and ask them to match it ... if they won't, ask why . Good luck !
OP when exactly did you get that deal please?

They offered me 3 months free last monday when they called after i had pac, i was on a train at the time so i called back on wednesday and they said it was now £19.60 with 2 months free as the 3 months deals had ended so i told them where to stick it and they didnt seem bothered

Several factors

How long you have been with them
Whether you stay within your allowances or add extra charges (ie. Give them more profit)
Have complained at any point
Have multiple lines with them
If they are coming to the end of a month and need a push on sales to hit their targets....

There's probably more
I moved from 3 to Vodafone. Where i live much better signal than 3. Such a shame customer service is terrible.

I got offered this exact deal with first month free... ended up with £14.40 for 10gb but with no entertainment (still first month free).

I was happy with that before reading the op's post!

Maybe should have waited till the end of my contract? Still had a month and a half of my £35pm contract to run.

I don't need 25gb, but I do want Spotify & a decent signal (which only Vodafone have in my location) I don't want the inconvenience of porting my number out to another provider to port back to Vodafone, to go with mobiles.co.uk or mobilephonesdirect.co.uk to then claim cashback when others are clearly being offered a better deal by Vodafone direct. 🙄

When did you manage to get that? I rang up in the last week multiple times, and it seems they no longer give out credit/free months, as there was a massive change within Vodafone only a few weeks ago and now they aren't allowed to budge on almost anything.

When did you manage this? They now tell me they don't give feee credit anymore.
23rd Jan was when I renewed. When talking to the first person online they were completely useless and insisted that their offer of 8gb for £18 pm was the absolute best and they don’t do account credit. I said fair enough, put me through to cancellations. They started with one month free but I said I’ll stay if she made it 3 months. I had some pretty good offers from other suppliers to show them and said I was quite happy to leave. It didn’t take too much persuading to be honest. The deal I am on shows as 25Gb for £25 and they have discounted it by 20% and it qualifies for an extra 5Gb per month free.
Straight away I noticed they were charging me £21.50 per month so I complained and they added a credit to balance it out. Then I found out they had not entered the 3 months credit to the account so I complained again and after speaking to several people and proving what I had been offered, they added the credit. It was a massive mess around trying to sort out their mistakes which is why I hate their customer services. They basically made me out to be a liar each time. Always use chat and keep the manuscript! I renew each year and each time there are problems that really put me off Vodafone but I know I’d struggle to get a better signal at home. Also, always check your bill to see if you’ve been charged for the entertainment package. The last two times I’ve renewed I have been charged for Spotify after the 30 day free trial despite questioning Vodafone and being assured that I would not. I can’t say yet whether it will happen this time but it wouldn’t surprise me. Good luck with whatever you can get!

This is why I used to have three vodafone contracts for my family but now have one (until I'm out of contract). They will tell you absolutely anything to get good feedback at the end of a conversation. Record all your calls, get transcripts of all online chats.
As the entertainment package is key to this deal, I would echo what has already been said above: Check you bills every month until you're sure they're not charging you £9.99 a month for a subscription which should be free. This has been going on for five months on my final contract. Each time they refund, then reset the package and swear that making sure I follow the link given in their text message while connected to mobile data rather than WiFi will fix it. Sounds great, except that's what I did in the first place, and the second, and the third......

Part of the reason may well be in the quoted posters post. Vodafone may know they have significantly better coverage then the competition in his specific area. If every network has good reception and there's excess network capacity you stand a good chance of getting an offer. Conversely if you're in an area with high network utilisation, or worse still congestion, they may not offer you a deal, because the cost of increasing capacity is significant.

Additionally they look at how much revenue you generate against the costs you impose:

- Interconnect charges, i.e. do you receive more calls off net then you make off net. When a call is made the Calling Party pays. With modern plans including significant allowances this means they receive the same revenue wether you make all your calls to other Vodafone customers or to off-net customers. Yet the cost difference to Vodafone is significant as off net calls they have to pay the terminating network the agreed interconnect rate/min.

- How and how much you use your allowances. Bang through your data every month. Do it during peak hours. In areas where they suffer congestion. And you're unlikely to get a great upgrade offer.

Of course there is also luck of the draw. Call when sales people need to meet targets, have promotions they can apply, etc and you stand a chance of getting a good offer. Whereas you could be the ideal customer according to the aforementioned metrics, but if they have not promotions they can apply you won't get one.

But there is underlying rhyme and reason that explains how/why some get offers and others don't.
