Vodafone Basics are our slimmed-down, no-fuss SIM only plans for people who know what they want and like to keep track of what they spend.

It is fake because your sim has very less priority. You will only get data when not in competition with EE Max and BT. So you are like a Third class passenger who is thrown out of the plane or train or refused entry when more first class passengers are there. 4G may work after midnight or if not in a crowded place but that makes the phone unreliable and more like a 2G phone. In case of a Virgin sim, EE blocks the 4G bands as well, some people have reported.

Good price for 8GB data. Just be aware it doesn’t allow international roaming etc,so if you go on holiday then have another SIM card ready.

I got this deal shortly after Christmas. I'm very pleased with it and have had no issues.

Prior to going with Vodafone I'd used plusnet and virgin which were cheaper but using 4g on these networks never worked properly. People would try and call me bit the calls never went through.

If you're happy with 3g then 'piggyback' providers are cheaper but i feel its worth spending a bit extra to get proper service.

EE Essentials, Virgin and Plusnet are fake 4G brands created by BT after it purchased EE. Always advertised here because they offer lots of fake data allowance which is not available most of the time.

Ok after a quick search I see what you mean. It’s not fake 4g it’s just slower 4g like there’s different speeds of home broadband. With only 8gb data though you aren’t really going to be streaming a football match or Netflix.

It's not only slower, it is unreliable. EE is selling their spare capacity on these brands . In big towns and cities, they do not have spare capacity. Also they do not tell you, until you figure out, so it is unethical. Netflix etc are blocked so you are you cannot watch them.

Any cashback for this
Is VOXI (Vodafone piggyback) not better, it's 6gb per month, so less data.. except you also get unlimited social media data access including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and so on?

My daughter has started using it, but only a day or 2 in so can't fully report on any exclusions and so on. It's a rolling monthly PAYG like this and also £10 with unlimited calls and texts

It depends tbh on where you live,4g everywhere in my town , i have been on 3 for 9 years and its been good. Any issues,i simply ring then up and get a discount or the bill waived off for the month. You can get unlimited data for around £9-£15 on retention deal if you still around after 1st year. I have 6 Sims in my name, my wife has 5 sims registered. I think i have a reasonable amount of experience with 3 to speak about their service

I was gonna come and say here about how good it is. Came from EE, lightning fast latency (so pages load quicker...ee might have faster download speeds but not latency) always had a good signal etc. Really impressed with it. Can bolt on unlimited video/music data for £5 each too.

I moved to Vodafone in August and must admit I’ve had zero issues and the 4g is excellent in most places (much better than three was for me me)
What exactly are people expecting on the piggyback networks? It's cheap for a reason.

I'm personally with Plusnet, another piggyback network and get 4G speeds constantly in Manchester city centre
Another vote for Voda here. I've been on their network for 3 years now. First with a basic 2gb plan, then with 20gb. Their network performance and coverage has always been superb for me. I believe they invested a good deal of money in their infrastructure a few years ago.
Could I get this SIM now and activate it in 2 months time when my BT contract ends?

exactly, It completely depends where you are. You could have the best coverage but there are places where EE could be a bit weaker and other network being stronger.
Data speeds also depend on how many users are consuming it at the same time. more users mean slower data speed, less users allows higher speed hence crazy fast speed after midnight

Doubt It, they start charging straight away. First payment is usually taken around 10 -15 days into the contract by direct debit. You might find some other package in 2 months time when you finish with bt

My son & daughter are both on Virgin & have had no problems at all in Cardiff - I think that qualifies as a big city! They're both into streaming & gaming & it works great for them

Moved from Virgin to Vodafone over a year ago, zero regrets. I get a signal in my house (never did with Virgin) and the VeryMe rewards are normally worth £10 a month!
Would you be able to sign up for VeryMe rewards with this plan?

After 12 months you will be on a one month rolling contract at the same price for the same datamins etc.
I too moved from Three to Vodafone, you just cannot compared the signal, Vodafone are so much better, I am aware that this won’t be the same for everyone.
Worst network provider. Data coverage is simply awful phones reports 4G connectivity is there but no actual data is parsing through. Moved away from Vodafone scams and couldn’t be happier with my current provider.
Vodafone customer service for me was the bad point had to report them to Ofcom for failing to close my contract after several calls they told me my account was closed, then i would get a bill weeks later. Also they used to bill me incorrectly or on some occasions charge me double
This was a phone contract and not a Sim Only deal but puts me off going back

I remember the good old days with Orange.

that’s totally worth it then. considering by the time we get to this time next year we may have operators offering 20gb for £10
Sureley should come with EU roaming ? As it's that's legislation now ?
