Showing as £55

I've updated the link
Only 1gb ram. Locked to vodaphone. Can it be unlocked ?
Edited by: "sam_of_london" 25th Feb
Vodafone will unlock pay as you go handsets for free after 30 days use.
Might be cheaper than using an unlocking service.

Is it any good? Seems quite cheap for a smartphone. Could do with an extra work phone with smart capabilities

The Vodafone Smart Prime 7 is also reduced on Amazon to £50 which undercuts Ebay. Also available to order. Here are the gsmarena specifications for each phone (along with the Lumia 650) gsmarena.com/com…859

What happens to Android phones trying to run using 1gb ram? Can you point me in the right direction for research. Thanks sam.(serious question btw)

1GB means that when switching apps restarting becomes the norm.
And you cannot really run multi tabs in the browser.

However it is a brilliant buy at £35 for low users.

Caveat Emptor. Read negative feedback on Amazon . If it had 2gb ram , I would have bought it myself. Only Android Go phone s which will be released this year are supposed to work on 1gb ram.

It's below the minimum requirements for Android Oreo:

source.android.com/com…cdd

I expect it might be for earlier versions too.

You could argue this phone won't get newer versions of andriod, but it won't get any security updates either.

Edit: tell a lie. The screen is so terrible it might scrape by. I haven't seen one with such low pixel density for a while. Would still be pretty bad though.

Thanks @MSK. Will read and inwardly digest.

No probs. Made a slight edit. Been using some old smart phones while I chose a replacement.

I'm practical terms what you find with a low spec phone is it won't run most apps. It becomes a non-smart phone work a big screen and an ugly web browser.

Might be fine for some purposes but not fun as a main handset.

Maybe something like the Huawei Y6? It's half price (£59.99) at the Carphone Warehouse.

carphonewarehouse.com/hua…tml

Is admittily nearly double the price, but probably worth the extra money.

I think that's the phone I picked up for my Dad last year. It seems quite capable for his needs. The only downside is it doesn't have any gryos, so it can't be used in a VR headset. But I expect that's not something you would be looking for anyway.

I guess when you are choosing a phone, you're always weighing up how long it will last vs the cost. I tend to spend quite a bit more, but I tend to hang on to phones for a really long time.

Same as the Moto C. But this is not £50+.
£50 gets you the 720p one here!

It's a good price compared to the Moto C, but that's regarded as a pretty awful phone too. I don't know why anyone would when you can get a phone with another 1GB of RAM for £10 more.
For low users they still get the job done. Though maybe remember to turn off data, turning it on when needed/available.

And/or if you have 200MB, 500MB etc etc plan, also set it to turn off data at the 75% mark.

Yeah. Not in a way where it will be working as intended though. More working like my 4 year old phone that just bit the dust.

My phone is a Chinese 1Gb and my partners is 3Gb and the difference is night and day in that she can have multiple apps open and still runs swiftly , mine is slow or not responds, as actually only use map my walk and phone is ok for me.
Well, stuff like Now TV, iTunes and Eurosport will all work fine.

Like you said, its the multi tasking and multi Window that fails.
Why spend hundreds if you don't use it like a top end phone?

Saying that, I bet its tougher than most high end phones.

Don't worry guys - it may be cr@p but it's cheap and this is HUKD so that's enough!
I have it to test app/games. It's actually pretty good for the price, if you dont mind being stuck on android 6 (security patch Nov 2017)

Youtube and instagram run fine, as do some basic games. Seemed to do ok browsing the bbc and guardian websites, although the latter was a bit laggy.

I ordered a Y6 from CPW yesterday morning. Order went fine but later got the email that they have none in stock.
You do need at least 2gigs these days. Especially with those bloated old android versions. You open web browser with 2 tabs and whatsapp and and hotukdeals will start from the main screen and not nemember when you left off each time you run it. Opening messenger will close the browser completely.... Forget about google maps/waze and web browser at the same time. Going back to desktop even with nova launcher takes forever. No thanks. Running 2 apps simultaneously is the minimum these days and those 1gig phones might not even provide that. Spare yourself the struggle and get 2gig phone
