Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 (in store) £99 plus £10 top up

Thought I'd go have a play with a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 given all the hype around it. When the guy checked on the system, instead of £125, the phone was coming up as £99 plus obligatory £10 top up even though the sign instore said £125. Thought this was too good to be true, but I'm now sitting posting this deal from the phone. Seemed so good that I had to register and post it. Deal now online. I bought mine (silver) from the Dundee branch inside the Overgate. Will try to add receipt in a minute.

Should hopefully be even more jammy for those of you who have a Vodafone sim already.

Quick question for anyone with the know-how - actually bought this to give to my lovely boyfriend as a replacement for a slightly knackered Note 2. Will he actually find much of a difference? I could almost be persuaded to keep it for myself, but only if it's not going to be much use to him! Thank you!

Here is a link to a good unlocker with fast response.

It'll stand very well against the Note II
gsmarena.com/com…854
Screen is better, it has an Octo core CPU
No NFC or Stylus (if that bothers him)
Great price though - nice find - have some heat

Just realised I've gone a bit overboard with the virtual black marker. Whoops.

It has NFC, which is good.
I just got this phone for the missus. Its a pretty nice phone but it is huge compared to the S4 mini she was using.
It is very lightweight, personally I would prefer it to be a bit more weighty.
The screen is lovely and it is fast and responsive.
Rubbish headphones come with it.
For £100 this is great value!
great phone for the money. had mine over 5 weeks.
Anyone confirm if this is national store price? May need cancel my recent Amazon one if national. Thanks

Thanks so much for your reply, really helpful. Has anyone had both? Would really like to know how the cameras stack up in real life.
Just to reassure anybody - the phone definitely has NFC. Was about to ask anyone who has the phone to check for me, then realised that I was typing this with the phone! Time for another coffee I think.
do this isnt online pity as you dont need to topup online
For £125 this is a great phone. For under £100 it's a steal. Nice find. Have to pop into local Vodafone and check.
Thinking of picking up a second one for a family member. From having a quick read of the other threads, seems like even with a Vodafone sim people are being made to pick up the £10 top up? Still cheaper than anywhere else, but a bit of a waste of a tenner. Anyone had a different experience (buying instore I mean, as it's not currently online)?
Also, people being told that unlocking on ebay would void the warranty? Something about this seems wrong to me, based on consumer regulations I've read in the past, but really not sure. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Don't want to recommend the phone to anyone else (not on Vodafone) then find out that they won't have any warranty because they didn't want to give Vodafone 20 quid for pressing a few buttons... Thanks!

Loving the phone so far BTW.
Had a Vodafone Huawei Ascend G300 which I immediately unlocked for my son to use with his O2 SIM.
Screen failed at month 11 and Voda repaired under warranty, despite the unlock.
can't comment on the Ultra 6 - but it does look a cracking phone
OP is correct. Just been into Vodaphone Reading. Tempted...

Thanks again! Just to clarify, this was a non-vodafone unlock like eBay etc?

Yes - They have no way of telling.
I wonder if the phone is Android Marshmallow ready?
It is due to be release on the 29th of this month...
Any thoughts?
Just thought of yet another question. Bit daunting to go through over 100 pages of another thread to find the answer, so here goes.
Asked in store if I could activate the £10 bundle at a later date - told that it had to be activated then and there so assume that's what was done.
Anyone know if this was correct? Would much prefer to be able to use it later in the year. Currently using my EE Summer Sim allowance. Is there anything I can do like sending stop bundle which I did with EE so I can keep my tenner for now?

Hoped that was the case. Thanks for the third time!

Released by Google, it could be months if at all for a Carrier specific phone.
Not so much if it's Marshmallow ready (it is) more if Vodafone are willing to put the effort in.
And results in that space are.... mixed.
Hopefully they drop the price online and Amazon price match. If we can get this for £100 without the topup that would be awesome.
Fair point.

By this logic the phone is about to become redundant in less than 2 weeks when the Nexus 5x comes out at £150 hopefully...
This or an used S4?

Nah, not redundant. People shouldn't get so hung up on OS releases.
The Google play framework is what dictates more about a devices ability to run stuff, and that is compatible back to 4.3.

This or an used S4?

That is entirely up to you
This - 1 yr warranty
Used S4, 2 years(ish) old, no warranty. Still a cracking phone though.
Congrats - your first deal went hot!
The Nexus 5X will definitely cost more than 150 quid. Probably looking at anything from £249 upwards. Most likely £299.
Just been in Vodafone shop in Lincoln, they ran it through the system and it came up at 135 top up included. :-(

That sounds like an awfully optimistic price point! Are there rumors to that effect?

Nah, just Tonyfonda wishful thinking/hoping
Good find
£99 is astonishing value, even the few niggles mine has you can't moan about at that price. Makes those spending £500+ on some samsung or apple device look complete and utter mugs.
Anyone else that picked up this phone, have you found the same issue?

Relating to predictive text. Turned off the list of words above the keyboard, left android's in built spell checker on.

If there's a word it can't automatically correct the spelling for, it flags in red underlined like you'd get on an iPhone. However, when you press on the underlined word, the list of replacement words flashes up for a split second and then goes away again. There's no opportunity to choose a correction
Decent spec phone, but it really annoys me that even though I pay Vodafone £40 a month on contract, I still have to pay £10 top up for this phone. It was the same issue when I went and bought a Lumia 635 from them a few months ago as a temp phone. The manager in the store was no help, and didn't seem to see what my issue was!
Wife contemplating this phone (though it's massive) or the Lumia 640 dual sim. Which has the better camera as that is quite important to her. She is moving from a Nexus 4 which has pretty underwhelming camera performance. Thanks.

It's definitely running the 30-day clock down now; get it on eBay and say when it was activated, so the buyer knows, you'll still get £5 for it.

who cares what other people spend their money on their money their choice

Its cheaper to get a Voda SIM only deal (for example) and BUY this phone (even with the £10 topup) than it is to get this phone on a contract with the same mins/text/data allowance.
e.g.
Phone & 10Gb contract = £36 pm = £864
10Gb SIM only = £27.20 = £652.80 + £110 for phone £762.80.
Plus you can move your SIM deal around more freely or buy the next bargain £100 handset when its available next year instead of being tied down for 2 years

I use Hangouts for text sending and Swiftkey for my keyboard.
Combined I get the same experience no matter what phone/OS/manufacturer I use, and have done for the past 4 years.

Same here, £135 in Stoke. It appears this deal is not national.
