Just a shame its Vodafone, scum that they are.

It's Vodafone not Vodaphone

davewave

What did they do to you?

Cocked up my initial order, demanded a credit check before accepting the replacement order (treating me like I was trying to defraud them, when it was their system that went wrong), and denied me the Quidco cashback I was due.

Then proceeded to bill me the wrong amount each month (overcharged) three months in a row, despite me calling them every month and them promising me they'd fix it.

Easily the worst company I've ever dealt with for customer service.

Seems good to me depending how easily it can be unlocked.
Any ideas in the antutu score?
How does it compare to the smart platinum 7

Snapdragon 435, seems expensive compared to Vodafone ZTE Blade a512 at £69(assuming you manage to avoid the £10 top up as I did).

The Platinum 7 has a significantly better quality screen (QHD AMOLED), and processor Snapdragon 652 vs 435 in the V8. The only downfall of the Platinum 7 is that it's still on Marshmallow, albeit with security patches to June 2017.

Problem with Vodafone phones is no updates I don't think this will get android o. Who makes this phone? Zte? Alcatel?

ZTE v870 according to gsm arena

On the plus side, Vodafone offer a 2 year warranty though you might have to remind them as they are prone to 'forgetting'.

a lot wouldn't want the risk but rather take the punt on a mi5 for tiny bit more for significantly better phone

Bilbo1968

They speak well of you as well....

More fool you. Buy one for your 50th birthday pops.

The CPU in this phone is really not very good, definitely not at this price. I know buying from China isn't for everyone but a Redmi 4 is about the same spec as this and at least £60 cheaper

Price seems high for the spec, plus Vodafone are scum.

It took a while but my Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 got an OTA upgrade from Android 5.1 to 6.0 so they do to upgrades occasionally.

Yeah I got the update too and it completely transformed by SU6 for the better. The SU6 has served me well for the last two years but the camera is atrocious. Just recently purchased an S7 edge to get a phone with a better camera. If a camera isn't a big deal for you, get the SU7.

Customer service is shocking IME. Tried telling me they couldn't repair my Smart Ultra 6 as I no longer used the PAYG SIM it came with, then said it was out of warranty(18 months old) though website clearly states 2 years. Eventually replaced it with the Smart Ultra 7 saying it was an upgrade (it's not). Check the Smart Ultra 6 threads here, I'm not alone.
All customer service departments have issues though I find Vodafone terrible. (I'm with 3 and have no issues - others despise 3).

2 year warranty vs no warranty - as for all these grey import china phones

specs aside, i know which one i would prefer

2 year warranty is great, no doubt though it has been very rare for me to use warranty. I'm going to carry on without the expense of insurance and stick with Xiaomi. I can buy two or three for the cost of the equivalent Samsung.

For £120 the Moto G5 o2 offer might be better than chinese if the camera is important - seems like with 'chinese' options they are good specs but generally fall down on the camera...

If you can stretch it go for the Lenovo P2. The battery is 5100mAh, which for me (power user) goes for 2 days. With 11hr screen time... Amazing!

Mr pops to you sonny.

I looked at this but ended up getting a Huawei P8 Lite 2017 from Carphone for £20 more.

I personally wouldn't buy anything direct from Vodafone again but I guess it will be available at other more reputable retailers soon.

Can't buy them new any more.

No vodafone.I had to throw smart ultra 6 after 1 year as screen touch didn't work properly, no upgrade and customer service is also bad. Motorola is much better.

Been with Voda for a decade and their customer service is truly awful. Probably on a par with most other mobile phone companies.

Hi damadgeruk, did they replace yours for free. My LG -g4 packed up the other day and Vodafone doesn't want to repair or replace. Though it's just 14 months old.

\I had the same problem as damadgeruk in the end I went through resolver which was then escalated to the ombudsman. Ended up with a new smart ultra 7 kept my ultra 6 that had the screen glue problem. And the ombudsman ordered them to send me a written apology and £30. My advice is to go through resolver it's really easy don't let Vodafone give you the runaround.
