Is it true the E-UP is only available in Yorkshire?
We wouldn't be in the position if the idiotic government hadn't classed diesel as the cleaner greener fuel when every man woman and stupid dog knew that diesel was the dirty unrefined alternative to petrol.
Vw has helped to kick start the death of diesel but realistically it should never have boomed in the first place.

Volkswagen/Audi have contributed to the demise of the Diesel engine with their downright lies, fraud a deception. 'Cheat devices' to con regulators and customers globally. Disgrace -where is the refund to UK customers who were lied to and mis sold their diesel vehicles!?

VAG/Skoda/Seat et al should be boycotted for their shameful scam of all those who bought their cars

This is is not a deal.

You trade it in rather than scrap it! To scrap your car has to be a diesel and be 09 or earlier.

Trading in a Passat - got £5k scrappage for an 06 Passat worth around £600. Also got another 13% off the new car so all in all £10k off RRP.

went through this a while ago and all showrooms i went to only offered scrappage cash if i took the car with a certain type of hire purchase. A simply cash deal was ruled as non-compliant with the terms of the scheam. But that was a few months ago

The argument at the time was that because you diesel cars are more economical, you burnt less of it, so was less polluting than petrol. But that kind of ignored what happened in built up areas with lots of slow traffic. But its really a rock and hard place argument, isn't it?

I don't think for one minute that other manufacturers weren't massaging their diesel emission figures.

but when companies actively call a device built into their product designed solely for fraud a "cheat device" I think anyone who was lied to by this group of companies (and others) should have the right to feel pretty misled and actual conned into their purchase.

Customers will have actively paid a premium to buy VAG because of their cleaner/more efficient diesels ...which was actually one of many snake oil deceptions by the motor industry which has completely destroyed the diesel car.

Petrol is still not an answer for emissions either.

But for VAG to wanna sell more cars off the back of their con is just this icing on the cake of more German schadenfreude!

One of the biggest lies in politics ever is the Tories selling the idea to the public that Labour caused the economic crash of 2008. If you look at the figures who are believed to be most culpable for this you'll not find a Labour politican in the top 50.

Couldn’t be further from the truth. VW’s Market share is now the highest of any manufacturer worldwide. Think you’ll find the likes of Ford and Vauxhall’s are the desperate ones as they are plummeting at the moment. Yes the “diesel scandal” but every manufacturer were up to similar antics. VW now have 6 of the top 10 efficient models on sale in the uk ( independent real life test) so leading the way.

They always have been to be fair. I have had VAG cars since 2003 and always found them to match the MPG they actually quote. I have had a few company cars by Renault, Hyundai and BMW and none of them are anywhere near what they quote. The Megane I had quoted 87MPG. Now i know how to hypermile and best I ever got out of that was 53mpg. Normal fills averaged around 49mpg. Similar story with the i40 - they quoted something like 73mpg. Best I got was 51mpg, normal fills were 46-47mpg (over 60k miles). My Octavia VRS diesel (170bhp CR) on the other hand quoted 54mpg and I regularly got or exceeded this figure with the usual between tanks of around 51mpg.

The emissions may have been cheated on the independent tests but if they are getting within 10% of the quoted figures in real life and Renault aren't anywhere near then what must their emissions figures be?!

It is also the same with Hybrids now. I have a BMW 330e now as my company car and they quote up to 25miles pure electric. I have never had more than 14. So who and how have they got 25 miles to be able to advertise that?

I'm home from work now lads (Motor Industry - that I have worked in for almost 30 years) time for some answers that you're not gonna like!

First up, it's almost 2 and a half years since it happened, and it's still known and referred to as 'the Volkswagen emissions scandal'.
Not scrapping my old Golf diesel while I'm having fun blowing smoke at all the tailgaters polluting our air with brake dust and unburnt petrol!

I'm not just talking about their over the top scrappage scheme, or indeed THE VOLKSWAGEN EMISSIONS SCANDAL.

Have you not seen the mental lease deals they have been doing over the last couple of years? They are going to have thousands of cars owing them way too much money, and what about all the poor sods that bought a VW Group car for 'cash' in that time - they are about to find it's worth a fraction of their outlay.

I think Toyota are still number 1 - maybe VW did pip them for a while, but their demise will mean it was only a temporary position.

Most (if not all) other manufacturers were not up to similar antics, as previously stated, 2.5 years later it is still VW grabbing all of the headlines.

If they had the knowhow and technology to genuinely create the lowest emission vehicles in the marketplace, why did they ever bother cheating?

No they're not. The brand I work with has a £2,000 scheme on just 2 models, the rest of the range has no scrappage deal at all.

£4,000 on Tiguan - hahaha, our SUVs have a waiting list in most instances, you're lucky to get any discount at all.

But they have scrappage that’s the point, VW have it on diesels some other brands have it on the full range, including petrols and some have restrictions across the board. Yes there are some which have waiting lists Seat a VW brand has 20+ week waiting list. As for no discounts tell us your brand because with the very rare exception of the brand new just out models I bet we can find a discount from brokers just the greedy dealers who aren’t offering them, I have seen it first hand.

Looking at it The below is a list of all of the brands on scrappage scrapage, Kia seems to be the one offering it on 2 models for £2k and you are right at the moment a stonic doesn’t have a discount but that’s just come out in the last couple of weeks so like any new model you won’t get a discount yet but give it a couple of months and they will be awash with discounts. Your comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt you are to engrained in the car dealer ways told just today that there was no chance of seeing a 67 plate reduce in March or April after the new regs come out

I know about it, I had a VW at the time, which I paid cash for. My car had one of the affected engines. It impacted my life in no way and didn't alter the valuation and therefore the price I got for the car when i sold it.

The US is pumping a massive anti diesel, hybrid, electric agenda. A campaign backed by billionaire oils magnates. Yes vw did wrong, but it's all a bit fake news tbh.
