I have a question for veteran Leasers, is paying the additional for Gap Insurance with the lease a no brainer?

For a 2 year lease like this, most insurers cover 1 year's gap. So is it possible then to buy 1 year's gap cover for the remaining year when it comes to renewing the insurance?

New to Leasing, appreciate any and all advice.

We paid the £139 Gap Insurance through Freedom Contracts which is good idea, as the car is valued at £22500 on the VWFS invoice
The car insurance was cheaper than our MK6 Golf, so it made up the difference & we're covered should it get written off & Aviva want to play hard ball

That's good to know.

Price matching is a false economy though. Why not just go to the cheapest place in the first instance instead of wasting time?

If they can match it first and then go a little cheaper with further haggling, that is a different matter.

I had this deal in February from another site, the GAP insurance cost is a bit excessive £139 you can get much cheaper

look great car

I've only recently got interested in leasing, so forgive me if my questions seem stupid:

Is the deposit just to cover potential damages and I would get t back when the lease expired? And would there be anything extra to pay if I changed it to a new car after 2/3 years?

I've also just begun to look into leasing & don't understand all the terms - what is "Gap" insurance? Sorry if a basic question.

It pays the 'gap' between insurance settlement figure and purchase price in the event of a total loss.

No, it's an inital payment. If you don't take care of the car there may be further fees to pay on return.

Im just going to buy a decent used car next year, can't wait for my lease to be up on my Mercedes.

Wish this was available a month ago! Bought a 2 year old one

Do you regret leasing? Be interested to know why as I'm tempted...

u can save 130 pounds directly applying to vw dealer. I had got my vw from Sinclair VW cardiff. Try approachign them directly and see any lease offers are there. I think i paid 2k plus 120 per month for 14 months. The deposit is not refundable. Either the deposit is high and monthly is low or reverse... No tax or maintance for 2 yrs

In general I would like to know whether people think gap insurance are important? Or generally insurance payout going rate which matches the current value therefore no need for it?

Mileage makes it depreciate, so GAP covers the difference if the insurance co do not return the invoice value to replace the car, if its ever written off in year 2.

If you're only doing 5k per annum I really cannot see the point leasing a car for 5k. Leasing would be more appealing if they offered realistic mileage i.e. 15-20k per year.

simon-c

Peter Cooper VW Portsmouth have matched pricing for me previously and also restructured the deal so it was effectively £0 initial. Much less risky than a £2400 initial payment. The fleet sales guy who deals with the leasings, Andy Gray, is a pleasure to deal with.

Why does everyone focus on the mileage? It's not limited to 5000 miles per annum. It's just that this deal is calculated for 5000 miles per annum. You can do as many as you want but you will pay more - which is to be expected of course. As someone else has calculated, 20K hand back mileage (=10k PA) will cost an extra £720 or £30pm. I don't think that's unreasonable.

Where's all our usual anti-carleasing army gone today? Was expecting some dismissive comments and praise on how much they save on their old banger!
Edited by: "geek1981" 18th Sep 2015

GAP insurance is worthless for the lessee. The insurer will settle directly with the owner of the car (the lessor).

GAP insurance on leased vehicles is the next ppi
