Volvo have released a free spray for cyclists which you spray on your bike/clothes and is invisible except when its in car headlights - then you shine like a big shiney thing!

The free spray is limited to a specific area (London) but its free and it makes you safe...

Volvos video showing it in action:

Heres a quick link to google maps which shows where the sites are you can pick this spray up from:

Fantastic idea, now maybe the fools who cycle with dark clothing and tiny specks they call lights will be easier to see.
I too cycle and always have a reflective hi-vis on, but this will be much brighter on the bike.

hiya. thanks for this. my isp blocks the link but won't tell me why.
Is the link to where you can order online?
According to one site (roadcc), Volvo LifePaint free cans are only at: google.com/map…61k

Be good for road running too - our roads around here lack pavements and streetlights but have a mass of people treating the country lanes like a glorified race track!

Shame can't get it here but will keep an eye out to buy it

Yeah I am also a cyclist and I cannot work out the current trend of cycling all in black - What happened to common sense on the road and making sure you are as visible as possible ???

Why the hell is this only free to people in London, do people elsewhere not exist??

I live near Cambridge. One of the reasons I got a dashcam was because of cyclists dressed all in black, with no lights, riding in the dark, on unlit roads on rainy nights when visibility is already poor.

Perhaps such riders are actually trying to commit suicide?

I have never seen cyclists without bright clothing in all my time cycling, I have seen some in black clothing but they have hi viz jackets etc so I would love to see pictures otherwise your just undercover drivers that love to moan about anything and everything. Not saying there aren't idiot ones but 1 in a 100 maybe which is not worth mentioning.

It's probably still in it's early stages... they may not be able to produce it in enough volume for the whole of the UK to have it.

On the Volvo website you can give them your email address and they'll keep you updated- that's what I've done

its clever but only lasts a week ?

Great idea shame its not available where i live. Hot still the same

Mate, the cyclists near us are a special breed indeed. Driving on Limekiln Road last night at around 9pm, they were four abreast, dressed in black, with flashing helmet lights. I thought it/they were a plane at first.

Shouldn't be on the roads anyway

Is this the stuff you can spray on your Reg plates to make it too shiny for speed cam flashes???

Horse riders could also use this to highlight their animals droppings on cycle paths, school crossings etc

I agree... They should ban all cars!!!

Maybe were you live but here its more like 1 in 3 people are dressed from head to toe in black (no Hi-Viz Jackets). I call them ninja cyclists and even my two kids are always pointing them out when we are out. Like I said I am a keen cyclist and have been for years and long before it recently became trendy. I can only think that maybe people think they are the Sky cycle team and dress in their black to mimic them or something.

Bikes used roads before cars were invented so your point makes no sense

I'm assuming you mean Gatso (the old type speed cameras). It would probably work on them.It was also rumoured if you drove fast enough, the camera won't be able to take the pictures quick enough!
The new cameras (specs etc.) take the picture from the front ie.with a picture of the driver. They're also HD digital cameras, whereas the old ones used film. Therefore may not work unfortunately.:(

Some don't. Better to be safe than sorry. No bikes no doubts

Road tax is a rate tax for cars based on engine size or on fuel type and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions..

That is why bikes don't pay road tax.

All bikes do not pay tax. A minority if cars also do not. Cars have priority because of this.

You're confused. There's no such thing as road tax.

Bikers have as much right as cars do to use the roads.
(From a cyclist and occasional motorist).:)

tomdavidrichards

The most ignorant and misguided excuse you could possibly give, road tax doesn't exist, it's vehicle excise duty based on emissions.

New 1.0l cars don't pay excise duty, does this mean they have no right to be on the road?

Educate yourself before spouting rubbish

Thx for the help.
I only have access to the TalkTalk broadband but I can't access the account because I'm not the account holder (ie.I don't pay the bill :)).
Therefore I can't turn off filter (on by default).

Ahh... D'oh.

Where I live I would love the bikes to be on the road. Instead they ride at high speed on a lot of the pavements as you can then see the sea. I was hit by a cyclist at night in a park and he blamed me as I didn't have a light on me (a pedestrian).

Dogs and the elderly have now started wearingflashing lights at night so they don't get hit by these kami kazi morons on the pavements.

perhaps this paint should glow all the time in the dark then I could spray it on my coat to protect me from the silent and deadly bikes.

Cyclist are in real danger, especially when they dress in dark clothes, so this is a great idea. Infact it should be a legal prerequisite to paint it on your bike if you are using the road, especially in congested places like London.

Debates over already lol

For safety I would rather be on the pavement when riding a bike but its not up to me.
