Had to get a 7 seater on account of a new arrival, and was finally tempted by this beast. Ok, perhaps a little long in the tooth compared to the new X5s etc, but what a deal! The Active has lots of kit too. Gets great reviews in general, and despite Jeremy Clarkson owning one, it seems to have a good image. I know that this post has polarised some people on HUKD as to the "irresponsibility" of driving such a big car, but if this fits your needs, and with all car prices, both used and new, set to go up next year, you are getting a lot of car for your money.

What Car review: whatcar.com/car…8-3
Even their "target price" for this car is £26K

Ideally, your local Volvo dealer should match this - none of them seem to want to lose sales at the moment. Just print it off from the DtD website and don't budge! No scrappage needed.

This is the 2.4 D5 Active 5dr model.

To access it at this price go to drivethedeal.com, and select Volvo in the manufacturer section and XC90 Diesel Estate in the model section, and then select 2.4 D5 Active 5dr. You will need to register to see the price, but I can comfirm it is £20,886, saving £9012.25 from the Manufacturers list price.

Please note that our dealers will require a minimum of 5% deposit (Subject to factory options).

All prices are valid for cars ordered on or after 31st October 2009 and registered, delivered and financed by 31st December 2009.

you'd get a wife, 3 kids and a dog in a Clio would you .... I don't think so

How much is the postage and packaging?

Cracking deal, Voted hot!

Clio no good for me with wife and 3 kids and our gear. I make do with an Accord Type R. But because its a bit sporty I must fall into that category of pompous ahole/complete idiot.

Just check XC-90 diesel Active on their site (they all have the same engine), and you'll get that price. I have used DtD in the past and they are fine, but just go to your local dealer and ask them to match it. They won't be happy, of course - my local guy was furious - but they will relent. Seems a better bet to go local in case anything goes wrong.

I'm still reeling from that strange eco-outburst...Volvo drivers everywhere beware! Your middle-of-the-road, swedish, green, jumper-wearing image of the past is under threat...by a new and dangerous ultra-radical renault faction!

no, someone who likes to fun have rather the boring renault (fall apart) clio driver
also, the volvo will prob last long after the clio has rusted into landfill (how environmentally friendly is that!!)

one thing to watch out with all 4x4's now i guess is cost of tyres...you may laugh but ive heard >£1000-1700 a set is not uncommon

alot of car for the money, though im after a sports audi or maybe a golf r or gti

renaults are the most unreliable cars on the planet.....my bro bought a 1 year old renault 19 16v some years ago...in 2 weeks it just fell apart and spent more time in the garage than he drove it..he promptly rejected it after 2 weeks

I was really looking at the total cost of ownership over, say, 3 years. Volvo residuals are OK, but if you start by taking 30% off from new, it really doesn't lose much. Although with my family it probably will look 10 years old by then...

To answer a previous post, this is a special edition model called XC-90 Active diesel. Comes with most things I need + lots of safety stuff.

fantastic -- not as good as clio but everyone to their planet wrecking choice ..maybe walk

Any voucher codes?

as I dont have a car, the wife kept it, not much I can add to this debate

Leaving alone all the nonsense - this looks like a good deal.

Very good car for the money

Hey, why not get the bus?!

Great deal, very tempted

If you are tempted, you'll save £500 by buying before the VAT rise. You might want to run it past JoeUK first, though.

Awesome car, great price.
Jealousy is a terrible thing!

Great price for a good car. Which dealer did you get to match the price, was it a volvo dealer?
Also can the scrappage scheme be used?

man made climate change is a myth! enough said!

Thats a hell of a lot of car for the money. Yeah its a bit old now and probably due to be replaced in the next couple of years, but its a good car and second hand value/demand is strong. HOT

The only thing I would say is that I know someone who had a brand new Ford Galaxy from the local dealer for £15500. Obviously its not 4x4 and not as well built, but the load capacity is huge and it has saved the family hiring a van on several occasions. After 3 years it is still worth about £10-11k now so devaluation isn't to bad either.

****** - i wish this deal was on 18 months ago....bought a Mazda 5 Sport (diesel) for my family of 5 but its proving too small now.

I quite like these.

Cold.

It's a Ford and the UK taxpayer is paying to keep them churning out this tat.

Buy a Nissan built in the UK.

I'm not saying you have to have a Clio. What I am saying is you … I'm not saying you have to have a Clio. What I am saying is you definitely don't NEED a 2.5 litre 4 wheel drive car.

Thats right - I don't need a 2.5 litre 4x4

Thats why we invested in a 3 litre twin turbo 4x4 :-D

I tow a large caravan all over europe. I packed my family in and towed my caravan to Croatia last year using this vehicle and we did over the course of 6 weeks over 4000 miles.

Now Mr Joe, here is the dilemma - what is better? - me buying a clio and flying (knowing the massive amounts of emissions that planes give out) or me driving to the chosen destination.

Does this go some way to justifying that some people NEED large powerful vehicles.

That is a cracking deal you have found.
To the tree huggers ..... jealousy is a bad thing, it will eat you up eventually.
Why can't you be pleased that the OP has found a good deal, and is willing to share it with us all?
Now,...... if anyone finds a similar discount on a BMW 3.0 Litre diesel I will be really interested!!

hrhrhr

Great car for the money. If only I had £20k to spend on it. Damn.

Nice Car, Great Deal, Dont be brainwashed on global warming, in my opinion it doesn't exist, if only fuel was cheaper we could all have REAL drivers cars with REAL engines. Any deals on a BMW 330D?

u sucker, you actually believe alot of the codswallop from the gov and … u sucker, you actually believe alot of the codswallop from the gov and tree hugger society...u shouldnt read everything you read in the papers/news...we should look after our precious resources/planet but having it rammed down our thoats throught media is pathetic...its just an excuse to charge or should i say tax us more, dont think the gov have anything else on their agenda re: global warming

Totally agree. And the (government funded) 'organisations' who are ramming this down our throats would have their funding cut if they didn't propogate the myth....

Now, I dont NEED one of these, but gotta say this thread has made me laugh like hell this morning!!!!!

I love it when someone tries to enforce their views on others...NEVER works and does the complete opposite

Right, must go...gotta drive aimlessly around in my 2.2 ST for no reason at all.....

Global warming??? I bloody hope so, its freezing today! :whistling:

Absolutely amazing how you people can see a bargain but can't see the … Absolutely amazing how you people can see a bargain but can't see the bigger picture.I'm not saying you have to have a Clio. What I am saying is you definitely don't NEED a 2.5 litre 4 wheel drive car.

I beg to differ. A 2.4 diesel is precisely what is needed to transport 7 passengers plus load in safety. Remember, if your car cannot accelerate to 70mph in the length of a motorway slip road, you are a danger to yourself and other road users. The XC-90 is built like a tank and will last me for many, many years. Now can that be said for your Clio?

Just to add to this, i've got 2 sprogs and 2 matching pushchairs - we went from a golf to a people carrier, fuel economy is not much difference, but the big difference is that we can go up to the city for a walk round the high street, bung both pushchairs in the back AND get the weekly shopping on the way through.

In the golf this would have equated to 2 journeys (Where i live you are talking 40 mile round trip to get to the nearest city), the same would apply if the guy above had to downgrade to a smaller vehicle, you can get so much done in the one journey, especially if its comfortable.

Also, i always think the bigger engine, the less it needs to be hammered and thus the less harm it's doing. Probably an ignorant view, but hey, it's how my mind works!

Jealous are we? Do you know the OP to hurl such abuse? Great vehicle, … Jealous are we? Do you know the OP to hurl such abuse? Great vehicle, terrific price offering great protection for precious cargo.

Bit of a selfish attitude. That's one of the main problems with 4x4's. They're safe for those that are in them, but kill others due to the impact point sitting higher on a 4x4 and not aligning with the impact point in regular road cars causing them to get crushed.

I'm not so much "eco", but I personally can't stand people that drive 4x4's for their safety, and drive around the city. I personally block any 4x4's when I see them around London.
