I've been looking for a reciprocating saw for a while in order to cut up some pallets. I saw the the post for the Makita 18v recently which is a good price for a battery powered unit.

However I didn't want to spend that much money on a tool that I'd use occasionally and happy to buy a wired device. My previous B&D Scorpion gave me 10 years of service and I was looking for a similar tool.

I saw this on eBay first (as per deal link) and it looks like very good value for money. I then checked Amazon and after seeing the raving reviews I promptly bought one: (Amazon charge an extra £6.99 for delivery)

I should be using it next weekend to if it arrives by then will let you all know how good (or bad) it is.

Can someone explain the practical applications of this over a jigsaw?

Jigsaws are more for precision, detail cuts, these are for rough and ready cuts.

Dunno how powerful this is but I use Irwin 225mm demolition blades with a Bosch reciprocating saw, they're good as they cut through the odd nail without blunting the blade. I accidentally cut through my metal saw horse (1" box section) with one hehe. oO
