Having been let down by Halfords with the recent Boardman bike deal I already had the vouchers and membership as per the below

Went in to store to see that the Voodoo range is being updated and they are flogging of the old stuff cheap.

I picked up the 13/14 Bantu model - they have £120 off the original price so brings it down to £279.99, British Cycling discount dropped the price to £252, and ordering £250 of vouchers cost £227 with delivery.
If joining British Cycling add £14 for the years membership.
If your store has one, reserve it and pay when your vouchers are delivered - mine came next day by registered post so don't pay extra for next day delivery.

Yes it not a £1000 bike but as a starter for me with this spec for under £240 I'm more than happy - bring on the bike snobs

Rougher trails are a piece of cake for the VooDoo Bantu Mountain Bike with its Shimano 24-speed gearing and suspension fork that takes on the bumps and features lockout for a stable ride when the ground levels out. The lightweight 7005 aluminium frame and powerful hydraulic disc brakes make the Bantu a great entry level bike that’s not scared to get its teeth into the trail.

Excellent value with decent entry level components

How do you get the vouchers cheaper? What vouchers are they? Also, I had a look & the membership starts at £18 instead of £20 if paying direct debit...

Use the code CYCLESCH when checking out and it drops to £14 odd.
Get the Halfords vouchers from here: select.halfordsbusinessservices.co.uk sign up and use code NRTSCHAL13 for 10% off.

These bikes are very good for the money.
The downsides are; the paint is very thin and scratches easily, the inner tubes are so thin there is no point fixing s puncture as they pinch on refitting(easier to replace) and the tyres don't roll very well due to being so nobbly.

Heat from me.

Being honest, that bike isn't that bad. I mean the components aren't awful. You dont want top end components when learning MTB as you are likely to damage them.
Fork is not the best by any means and probably let's it down. Nice hydraulic brakes too.

Why is no one buying bikes in euros from germany etc? Sterling is strong. We actually pay a lot of money to be part of this eu thing.

Good point!
Any suggestions for good place to look?
After a low-mid level road/hybrid bike. Probably end up second hand, but good deals seem to be sparse.

Aren't bikes quite expensive on the continent. I've heard of people buying used ones over here and driving them in a van to sell them in Germany etc

10% flash sale between 12 and 2 today.

This looks hideous so chances are no one's going to try and nick it. I can't comment on how good it is, as bikes are not something I know about. I was in Halfords today, and say a Boardman with yellow tyres for £449 and to me it looked very nice and a prime target for thieves.

As I said I can't comment on how good the spec is. My comment was on the look of the bike which is subjective opinion. To me it's not a great looking bike.

Great bike I own one myself.

Looks ok for the price.
Would choose the RockRider 500 at 239 (199 in older colours if you can find stock) from decathlon personally. Similar quality spec but you'll get much better service time, warranties and after sales customer care.
Not to mention the ridiculous returns policy!

Oh and £5 off when you spend £250 with a loyalty card

I have the bike. Bought it for £290 with the 10% off weekend and 10% british cycling discount. Overall good bike. Lockout suspension and hydraulic brakes are selling points. I hate the brakes, they are poor overall. Would recommend. Any questions ask. Great price its at.
