Voodoo Bantu Mountain bike Amazing price £323.99 possible £262!! Halfords

Hi, Voodoo Bantu was £399.99 then reduced by 10% to £359.99 but until Monday there is a "web" exclusive 10% further reduction so £323.99 which is an acceptable price BUT you can get a further 10% discount through British Cycling (will explain) and pay by gift vouchers which you can buy for 10% less than face value. Therefore you can order this bike through click and collect and pickup when your gift vouchers arrive. Cost will be £262 approx!! That beats anything by many pounds.

Note it has real (not pretend mechanical disc) brakes and a great fork - not the XCT entry fork!

The bike has powerful hydraulic disc brakes and a great fork at this price (won't beat it!) Suntour XCR-LO travel forks with 120mm travel .

The hierarchy of the Suntour range is XCR>XCM>XCT and the XCT should be avoided but is on all the entry levels. I can't stress how good a value this bike is with the XCR fork.

Halfords are also doing half pice £20 Adult Bike care which is good value although they re service after 6 weeks for free - personally don't need that but £20 is worth it.

So to get 10% off via British cycling you just join online - I paid £10 as I bought an under 12 membership - I know they are not allowed on "internet" special but it will go through ok (check previous posts and my big smile)

Gift vouchers previously discussed on here and I can confirm they arrive next day by special delivery.

This extra "web" 10% ends Monday so click and collect before then - still getting it for £292 is great Collect after Monday for same price.

I realise this kind of "work" isn't for everyone BUT it should be if you are spending £100's!

Amazing spec for the price..... Don't forget to buy a Helmet and shock pump - 20% off accessories at mo

Hope that makes at least one person happy.

p.s. also works on a few others including Hoodoo 16"

Just trying to find a review. Although I know spec can't be beaten.

p.s. not bothered about heat (just after smiles) but for those voting cold who clearly are trying to ruin any deal then post a reason.

It's a hefty beast at 15.2kg (33.51 lbs).

Interesting read here - bikeradar.com/for…329

Your right - especially his last post which makes the whole thing irrelevant
Plus not the right bike/fork. Fork will weigh a bit but then it does a job. Plus it isn't heavy compared to others at the price. Funny you picked that message as the bike is loved over there!

p.s. what weight do you think a bike should be?

Edited by: "bargainhunter666" 16th Aug 2014

A further 10% reduction with 'possible' further reductions after considerable messing about is not really a good deal. Half-price and better bike deals are fairly common nowadays from Halfords, Argos, Tesco etc.
Even following your British Cycling/Gift Voucher under 12 membership 'scam' one still has to rely on Royal Mail to deliver on time to meet the Monday deadline - and it's already Saturday evening.
I gave heat for the your detailed post, but can understand why many are sending you North.
So ... here's a smile

It was the first review I came across on Bike Radar. Do you say it's not the right bike as it's an older version of the same bike? Odd that the weight is exactly the same as quoted by Halfords.

I wouldn't want a bike to weigh much more than 13kg to be honest, which I know would be a challenge with a budget of less than £300!

I am off out on bike now but you don't need to meet any deadline as explained. First I have 7 year old so no scam! £20 is open for all. ARGOS TESCO?? you winding me up! This is a quality bike - I should stop answering now!
You don't need the card as you can get an email copy and in fact Halfords don't even look at it. You click and collect at todays price and it will arrive at store next day - you pickup in a week. It is a great deal - won't beat it as I have been looking for a week. I have been looking for a week and have seen tripe mechanical disc and naff fork get lots of heat on here. Not after heat - 42 birthday next week and my wife gives me pleasure not this site:)

My Spec Rockhopper weighs more than that but then they don't post the weight! Yeah this is a different year and has a different fork than the one they are talking about.
Anyway - not trying to fight a battle - just want to help someone get a decent bike for a great price.

Not battling at all, just replying to your post(s). A lot depends on how the bike feels. Can't comment on this one but picked up a Hoodoo and it felt very heavy (and is over a kilo lighter).

Completely agree with your comments on Tesco/Argos - they're BSOs. The voucher thing made sense as well and Halfords give you a week to collect orders so plenty of time for them to arrive. Of this bike works for someone, it's a good price.

Be aware that 2015 bikes should be coming out soon so expect prices to drop generally - having said that, Halfords are the sole distributor so they can dictate prices and determine when they want to drop them.

Could well be worth waiting. I picked up a VooDoo 'Wanga' (dodgy name but great bike) up for £449 last year. It was £1,000 but was half price and I also used my British Cycling membership. I could have paid less using vouchers but thought the deal was sweet enough.

I am more than pleased with the bike I bought and noticed that Halfords seem to be the main supplier/distributed of Voodoo in the UK. Be careful with web prices and British Cycling cards as a lot of stores will not offer the discount if the web price is lower than the store price. I tried on Thursday during their 10% discount offer. When I went to pick up the Thule 591 I had ordered I was told that they wouldn't allow me to use my British Cycling card also. I left it as I can use vouchers through work to get that discount with my card.

18:46 : just checked checked the Voodoo website and most of the links don't work. I'd ask questions about warranties when going to Halfords if purchasing this or any other Voodoo product as it doesn't looked like they are still trading.

OP - Too many bottom feeders read this so give up answering / arguing with them as they don't deserve a superb deal like this! They'll always justify their silly comments to their little brains.

Interesting, thought at first that maybe their website is just down but the USA and UK sites are both down and unlikely to be hosted in the same place.

Chill, I'm not mocking, just making an observation. I own a Voodoo bike and think this is an ok deal but giving the heads up as there was mention of 2015 models but their current lineup isn't even visible online. Support for Voodoo isn't the same as most other US bike manufacturers however their bikes are very well built.

Roof bars and bike setup!

Not an expert on bikes, it does what it says on the tin. I can also spell. It was the weight that I was referring to, it's heavy. V Brakes are fine it performs well based on my usage... So far so good.

Just trying to provide an alternative for the shoppers

But its £279 (no sizes anyway) for a far worse bike so no alternative.

Thanks for the find OP you're a credit to the site : )
Heat very much added!

So if I join British Cycling I get 10% off but have to pay in vouchers? also going to be away for the next couple of weeks so could I order now and collect then and still get the discounted price?

dear bikers,

I am after a cheap (but not nasty) bike and have been looking at the deals on various sites. what is this bike like to compared to GT Aggressor 3.0:

I know the GT has V brakes....

15kg? That's too heavy

I'd go for the Bantu for the brakes alone, they're really good, and seen on plenty of bikes up to £1000 and some beyond that.

MTB. Cold.

;-)

I have this bike! 5* Cycle.

I'd question what brakes this bike actually has as on the description of the 16" and 20" frame like, it shows it having Shimano BRM-445, but the specification for all 3 sizes shows it coming with Tektro HDC-300 Hydraulic Disc which I believe are a far worse set of brakes.

Looking at the pictures on the site, they're the Tektro ones on the bike.

I think your maths is flawed as well as you've failed to take account of the cost of membership at £10 (minimum) so the price is at least £272.

This is a terrific deal for a seriously good piece of kit. I saw this on Friday and really fancied getting it. I get discounted Halfords vouchers through work but they wouldn't arrive until Wednesday. I assumed that if I reserved it today and went to pick it up on Wednesday, I would have to pay the full price, as the extra 10% off is only valid until tomorrow. Are you saying that if I reserve during the 10% off period, I still pay this reduced price even if I go to collect it after the promotion has ended?

Thanks in advance.

I did the halford deal this weekend. So what I did was go to this link:

http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership/race/bronze

Sign up for the direct debit and you get the member ship for £18. This membership will allow you to get discount in store.
Next is to get the bike you want off the Halfords site and RESERVE IN STORE. Dont have it for home delivery otherwise you will miss the bike membership 10%

Once you have your card total go to this site and sign up:
https://select.halfordsbusinessservices.co.uk/customer/account/create/

Once signed up log into the account. Only when your logged in you can use the discount.
Add the vouchers to the card to the toal of the price on the halfords site. Once you have them add this code: MCOUNTHal09

This will then give you discount. Now wait for your vouchers and items to be in store. Go to store with the vouchers, hand over both the cycle card (if you call you can get one sent via pdf to print) and boom!

Cheap vouchers and 10%!

Also, do you reserve via quidco as you get 3% cash back

why people put offers up on this site is beyond me,op this is a fantastic bike and a fantastic price.
everyone on here seems to be an expert on everything from tvs to aldi veg and can always offer up an unobtainable deal that is hundreds of pounds better than what you have got.

Nice spec for the price. Some decent tyres and tubes would shave off some weight.

Join British Cycling, pick your relevant membership. They will post this very quickly BUT you don't need the card as they will give you an email copy if your request and I think you can print a coupon although not needed.
You reserve the bike via click and collect (personally I reserved three different bikes) and pay nothing at all then - that is why I didn't mention Quidco as no purchase is made.
British Cycling 10% will be taken from this. So they will ask for £291.59. You will hand over £291 pound of vouchers which will have cost you £261.90 BUT they do half price on bike plan so I would suggest that at £20 and then Halfords also have 20% off accessories until Monday so I would suggest ordering the shock pump I have listed as a deal. Helmet, tools e.t.c. as the prices ARE lower than Evans, CRC e.t.c at the mo.
You would then get your £323.99 add price of other stuff then reduce by 10% to get total and purchase that face value amount in gift vouchers.
Note a store could if it wished say that british cycling is accepted on web exclusive price BUT 3 I know don't care AND you are not getting it at web exclusive - you are getting Halfords shop to price match website and then doing the British Cycling. It really IS a great deal. Never thought I would love Halfords after problems I had with a stereo (boy racer times) and the "free" inspection they gave my mums car.
