Oh No Expensive Knives Aaaaaggggghhhhhhh

Yes expensive and read the Amazon reviews. Cheap plastic looking holder, huge size for your kitchen, and the knives go rusty. That sound good to you?

What one needs is a good wooden (wood kills bacteria) knife block with stainless steel knives that could cut your fingers off. They are quite low cost too.

awesome. MRSA outbreaks solved! now wheres that 4x2 i had..... :whistling:

Well it is true that wood does kill bacteria when it is a natual function of wood to help protect trees. So wood is good in the home no matter if it is a knife block, chopping board or a toilet seat.

When I saw the photo on here, I thought it was a TV aerial

what? wood doesn't kill bacteria its inert? what exactly is the mechanism of action for it achieving this fantastic property that humans never accomplished in their evolution? so trees are sterile? Bacteria will thrive on ANY support surface that fulfils their metabolic requirements. Drop some support media (ie food/water/any biological matter) on the largest block of wood and several types of bacteria will happily grow. They only way wood could help reduce the chance of bacteriological build up is the fact it has -relatively- high absorbent properties removing water from the metabolic equation but then this would for the most part only affect gram -ve bacteria and probably not kill them.

Some people are not keeping up with their latest scientific research I see and there was me thinking that this is knowledge that every household should know.

So every home is best off with a wooden chopping board, knife rack, toilet seat and more. The answer to RiKx's question you can find in the second link. Wood kills bacteria very well.
