Could build the same for cheaper, with better qualilty components.

I called dell up yesterday regarding this machine and had them remove the 8800gt to a ati 256mb card and remove the flat panel. The final price was £440, not bad for a quad core extreme processor machine and 4gb ram

I can’t see how you could do that?
Dell System = £679 after Quidco
The monitor = £241 (eBuyer)
So the base unit = £438.

Q9450 = £205
Vista Business = £85
4GB (2x2) DDR2-800 = £50
Sub Total = £340

So you are left with £98 (438 – 340) to buy:

Case
Power Supply
Keyboard & Mouse
Motherboard
Card Reader
DVD Burner
8800 GT 512MB
Works 9.0
Hard drive

No way dude, you’re dreamin’

It's not actually an extreme processor; those start with QX.
Still seems a good price as the CPU is £200.

A core quad extreme is no better than the normal processors anyways, the only difference is the unlocked multplier, but because you can't overclock dells it doesn't matter.
