VR Headset - £12.49 @ carphone warehouse

We called into carphone warehouse earlier to pick up our son's handset upgrade and they were selling VR headsets as a "black tag" deal reduced from £25 to £12.49. "Gogi" branded, not a brad I've ever heard of, so I'm not sure what they'll be like. Their system was down so they couldn't give a receipt. But Hey! What do you get for £12.49 nowadays?

Do you mean "Home Bargains" or "B&M"? Have you proof of this?

Not all vr headsets are created equal. I've had a £40 one and a gear vr and the £40 one was absolutely dreadful. Can't imagine cheaper oneso being any better. With vr it's all in the quality of the optics and light bleed. Everything else like fov beyond 90 degrees is a nice to have. But poor quality optics and the whole thing is a headache inducing blurry mess

The Gadget Show tested a few of these headsets the other night and had software made up to give a horror film like VR experience to the presenter who was shrieking and sweating during the "event".
The cheapest ones at £6.99 beat all the dearer ones except the Samsung VR headset and it very nearly beat that too.
It'll be on Catchup TV.

I can just imagine that harridan Alex Jones demoing one of these. How she ever got a job, never mind one on television, is beyond me.

She wasn't the presenter demoing the VR stuff

I felt the same way about the gear vr when i got my cv1 rift, can't use the gear vr now as it looks terrible in comparison.

No

For anyone interested there are several options on Amazon with remotes for under £12 or even £10 (plus some Amazon Warehouse options with the current extra 20% off). I ploughed through reviews on there yesterday and took a punt on one of these for £7.43 from the warehouse amazon.co.uk/dp/…T09

These all are equivalents of Cardboard VR which is very basic and can cause motion sickness.

Don't bother with anything other than Gear VR or Daydream View (Pixel), only these have additional sensors/gyroscopes that improve mobile position/orientation detection to the level suitable for VR.

There are a load of cheap ones around this price or less in TK Maxx too btw

Mm sounds dodgy to me they were able to process an upgrade but took cash and no receipt for an accessory
, looks like someone has done a fast one? Id check with head office you could have received stolen goods.

For 5 ?

I had to buy a few VR kits to demo some educational software ... Home Bargains were selling for £5.99, Poundworld were selling for £5, and B&M were selling for £8.99.

Main issue is the lack of button for some games - if you already have a headset, then you can 'hack' a capacitive button using a bit of tinfoil (just google, there are a lot of examples).

The 'gogi' headset here does have a button, so that's a plus. There are cheaper options as others have pointed out; if you're interested in having a go with VR (and have a compatible phone), then I'd recommend buying one of these cheaper sets (with a button) to have a go ...

4 quid in pound land. I expect both are as **** as each other
