  • Also play a variety of games with popular characters, safely browse the internet, listen to music and watch favourite cartoon shows!
  • Features a large 5 inch capacitive touch screen, 2.0 MP rotatable camera for taking photos and videos, 8GB of (expandable) memory and built-in rechargeable battery.
  • learning and creative apps with many more to download!

I have this in the Blue/Black version for my Son for Christmas as he has been after a phone for a while (too young for a real phone) and whilst it isn't a phone it does allow messages etc to be sent to a pre-approved linked adult phone so it is a sort of phone in essence using Wi-Fi for your child to send their messages to you.
Loads of other features such as games etc too so a mix of a tablet and Wi-Fi phone type device.
The reviews on the Amazon page detail some of what it does and I can confirm it really is good as we have tested our Sons out before hiding it and I can't wait to see my sons face when he opens his on Christmas day. Great deal and was wavering to get my Daughter one too but I think she is a little young yet.

Just to update to advise that this is now temporarily out of stock however it can still be ordered from Amazon at the £47.23 price by clicking on the blue new writing just above the colour selection and then selecting Amazon on the buying options page: amazon.co.uk/gp/…new

Ha Ha yep going to be skint before the end of the month at this rate myself!

I was tempted by this but got stung by the whole debacle around privacy with its predecessor where they deactivated the messaging function. I've read some reviews on Argos that say they can only message a device that's connected to the same WiFi network that it's on. Is that true?

I am pretty sure we tested between our two phones (Sony and Samsung) and the Kidicom when I had my normal 4G on rather than the house Wi-Fi but now I'm doubting myself. I'll dig it out when the kids go to bed in a bit and try to test it out tonight and come back to you on here. As far as I knew when we tested it with both of our phones it worked fine because we had downloaded the app and accepted each phone via the parental controls on the Kidicom.

I hate VTech, expensive, old tech and very dodgy security on their servers.

Chilled it.

Better give your child your old mobile phone with the SIM removed; it will have a better spec and will last them longer (in a suitable armour case).

Oh each to their own no problem

I like the 'phablet' as we have the blue/black one already which we have put away for Christmas for my Son and I like the fact that it is kid protected so that he can't go on any dodgy or adult internet sites, has games and more Vtech games can be accessed which are also kid friendly. The camera isn't amazing but perfectly okay for a younger child and their first 'phone' and being able to message me and his Dad will make him feel like it is a phone without us actually giving him one (I don't want to give him an actual phone at his age as I think he is far too young for them and don't want him exposed to an older phone just yet as he is still in primary school). I must admit I wasn't impressed when they had that internal leak over some personal info held on their learning lodge the other year but I'm assuming they have fixed that issue now and it won't happen again.

Hi IndianaBlues sorry for the late reply. My Husband and I have just checked the Kidicom with my phone on 4G only i.e. not connected to the same Wi-Fi as the Kidicom and the messaging definitely does work. So it doesn't only work if on the same Wi-Fi network and definitely works on separate ones. Hope this helps and sorry couldn't remember before if I had defo checked with 4G or not.

As you say, each to their own.

I find VTech gear very limiting (I was a Nursery nurse for 25 years, as well as a dad.).

My daughter had her first "phone" age 2, it was set up with suitable games and with WIFI and BlueTooth disabled, and the SIM removed; that was nearly 3 years ago and the phone is still going, although she has progressed onto a newer cast off this summer, where I allow her wifi access to the Google Play store for games, and YouTube for videos. She does go back to the old phone for some of the "baby" games, to play them for her 2 y/o cousin when they visit.

Because both are standard Android, I can check out what she wants to install (she can browse the PlayStore, but it needs me to install anything that has in-game purchases), it also means access to the BBC website and BBC childrens games and apps, as well as stuff relating to her favourite TV programs - currently Miraculous Ladybug and MLP.

And obviously, no chance they will become paperweights like any Vtech stuff might, if they turn the service off/go bust.

I can't seem to get this deal every time I go on the link the price is £89.99. Am I doing something wrong or is this deal over

I can't seem to get it for that price

Deal should show as expired? I originally found it 2 weeks ago and I think I expired it a few days later when the stock ran out. Worth keeping an eye out in case they drop prices again in the run up to Black Friday. Sorry you missed it.

Sazkit thank you just seen that
