My daughter wanted a camera for her sixth birthday, so I was doing a bit of research on kids ones recently. Apparently this camera is great but it still runs on 4xAA batteries, which it absolutely devours. There are plenty of other options out there that are rechargeable instead, so I went with one of those.

Do you mind telling the option you went with? I am also looking for rechargeable
We got the pink version from Amazon recently for £16.49. Yee, it should have had a built in rechargeable battery hopefully also making it waterproof too but its 4xAA.

It's ok, I wouldn't pay more than £20 for it though. The name "kidizoom" is quite apt as it's a rubbish digital zoom rather than optical despite what the lens on it suggests - that's just a filter switch.

I went with this one on Amazon. It's half the price of the Kidizoom and I'm delighted with it. I was worried it might be cheap Chinese tat but it had good reviews and my daughter loved the colour and silicone rabbit skin it came with. The lanyard is handy so she doesn't drop it and the controls were so intuitive she had it mastered in minutes.

Can't comment on the picture quality yet as I haven't transferred any of her pictures to the PC, but seeing as how she's taken about 600 photos of the dog I don't suppose that really matters...
You're probably better off buying a kid a second hand camera off ebay. There are loads of older but perfectly good point and shoots out there for almost no money.

One of the main points of this is it is resilient. Most second hand point and shoots will be dead if you drop them once.
