It's a business lease. Depending on what you need it for you may be able to reclaim back 50% of the VAT and that's why.

I've edited the description to show that it costs £235/Month with a £1400 deposit. The £6820 price in the title includes VAT

Because that's how the price is advertised maybe? Like most things related to 'business'

I take it you don't have your own Vat registered business...

The consumer price is also quoted on the site.

Forget the vat, why are they charging 1740 more for personal?

who cares, the personal price is an absolute steal for this car!

what does the 'anti tramp' function do!?

All prices on this site have to be VAT inclusive as this is what you actually pay the merchant to purchase / lease an item.

what does the 'anti tramp' function do!?

It's a security feature.
With winter approaching you often return to your vehicle to see that a tramp has smashed a window and is sleeping inside.
Anti-Tramp senses when a tramp is near and dispenses (from the exhaust) a "smart can" of Special Brew. The "smart can" will only open when it is further than 100 metres from your vehicle.

what does the 'anti tramp' function do!?

The anti-tramp function recognises when the wheels may be about to lose traction with the road and intervenes to stop this happening. Under hard acceleration the wheels sometimes bounce up and down, temporarily losing grip with the road surface. This is called 'tramping' and it can lead to the ESP system cutting engine power and slowing the car down. The anti-tramp function ensures full traction, so speed is maintained.

How does this compare to the Golf R deals from a few months ago?

The one where there were issues with business leases being sold as personal ones.

Talking about the like for like cost comparison.

Lol. Brilliant explanation! :-)

I think the best deal worked out at around £6150.00
But that was based on 5000 mpa
So for a fair comparison, add £700.00 (10000 x 7p excess miles)
£6150.00 + £700.00 = £6850.00
That was via a main dealer and volkswagon finance
Leasing company's tended to charge more and also charged an admin fee (~ £250.00)
So to be fair, for those that qualify, this is actually a very good deal imo

can you not claim back the money bar the vat?

so say its £250 a month and £50 of that was vat, is the other £200 reclaimable, thats what i gather from it? or have i got this all wrong, lol. plus you dnt need to be vat registered to claim that back, but being registered will help with the claiming of the vat aswell

Other way round mate, you can reclaim all the VAT if it's for business use only i.e. a taxi or driving lesson car. If it is used for a mixture of business and personal i.e. self employed then you can reclaim up to 50% of the VAT.

You have to be VAT registered to claim any back otherwise you just pay the full amount. For most people the two main numbers are usually 0% VAT reclaimed or 50% VAT reclaimed in which case the monthly price is approximately £236 and £217 / Month respectivley

Contacted them and you have to have a buisness interest and cannot merely get car allowance from your employer. This is due to it being from VW. Shame was a cracking deal but can justify the personnel figures.

Any ideas where I could get it cheaper ???

Just had a quick look and found this on personal :

1710 Down
Then 23 x 285 = 6555
1710 + 6555 = 8265
Now that's for 10000 mpa
Most of the good deals were based on 5000 mpa
So if you knock off a grand (10000 miles x 10p)
That drops it down to a comparable price of 7265 (based on 5000 mpa)
Which imo seems pretty damn good tbh
(plus fee btw)
