Seems an interesting concept, up to an hour on track, instructor in the passenger seat throughout and lunch included. I might give Oulton a go

This should be a very fun day, they are great cars. Been waiting for an appropriate thread to post this lol.....my hot hatch:

That is a cracking picture!

Seen a few of these on track, understeer seems to be an issue with most

Hot. Since the Argos deal fell through I might go for this.

I went to last years one at Rockingham. Best track day I've ever done.

Was hoping they would have gone back to the old concept. 2 hr drive to get there for a 30 - 40 min track time not worth it to be honest especially if weather not good as you won't get your time back if it is suspended etc had this happen before 2 hr track time and only got 15 mins due to weather and crashes.

If you own a VXR though the Driving school is the bargain of the year

Did this a couple of years ago. Very good value for the money had a go in a 3 or 4 different cars and a ad hot lap with Tom Chilton the touring car driver who was driving for them at the time. They do let you give the cars some stick as long as you remain within your ability and track limits.
Book up, I will be

Are you required to bring an item of burberry clothing along?

Almost hot. If only it was an RS Clio event ;-)

Drive a Vauxhall around a track?

No.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Booked.

Are you required to bring an item of burberry clothing along?

Yes, but it may well be a cheap Chinese imitation.

Voted hot!

not as good as a few years ago that was fantastic, its was hour track time and hour driving skills with the Paul Swift stunt team , being on 2 wheels in an astra was fun

I've done a few of these VXR sessions..Bargain for £35 assuming you don't have to travel too far.The instructors are usually pretty good and will gradually build you up to the speed that either you or the car are capable of..
It's pot luck how much track time you get.. There is a "bus-stop" system where you queue for a particular car Corsa/Astra/Insignia and get in the next one that comes along, you do 2 laps then come back to the pits.Last year at Rockingham there was virtually no queuing and probably got about 45min on track.
In previous years I have been lucky to get 30mins.
As mentioned by previous posters there is usually a couple of BTCC lads doing "hot laps" it's nice to be chauffeur driven by Tom Onslow-Cole at mad speeds !!

I'm fortunate enough to have a choice of two interesting sports cars to put on the track, but like I say to everyone...it doesn't matter what car you take to the track, as long as it's safe you'll have great fun at whatever speed you can reach.
For the money it's an experience everyone should have.

I would happily drive a trabant round a track !! And have fun doing so

and the reason there aren't any Clio events, is because they are French and will most likely break down ;-)

My cousin had a VXR he was a complete yobo and ended up rolling it and taking out a couple of parked cars in the process, now he is knee deep in debt paying for a car that is now scrap metal. I loled.

Nothing special about Vauxhall, mass produced and all teenagers own them. Looks fun to thrash them but I wouldn't want to be seen in one!

A 1.8 Corsa is one of the best drives I have had. Almost as good as a Williams Clio or a 300zx (which is faster but not as exciting)

And Vauxhall aren't in btcc anymore so unless the drivers are hired outside Vauxhall then you won't get anyone special. ToC performed well this weekend, I'd love to get a day with him

Have you been outside recently? You can answer that yourself!

Pretty much, they're so affordable, any chav can stick one on finance at £149 a month.

You also get a buffet lunch and drinks included.

I booked mine at Noon as soon as they went on sale. Can't wait. Not as good as previous years but you can't get a better deal, £35 for an hour with a ARDS instructor. The cars average sub 10mpg on the track, and get through brakes and tyres in a day. The Corsa was the best as it didn't suffer with the old astra's torque steer, I managed 117mph in the Corsa at thruxton in the GPS telemetry car. I remember having an instructor called Bradley who was tweaking my handbrake on the corners trying to race his instructor mate, mental

I posted this last year and hit 18 degrees!!!

You are missing the point of this..It's a heavily subsidised event where you get 1 on 1 tuition in reasonably quick cars..no snobbery required, if you like driving cars it's not to be sniffed at.

Never seen somebody pay for Petrol on finance

You've obviously never owned or driven a VXR. My son owns a Astra VXR and it's awsome to say the least! Fast ride thrills without paying for the designer badge on the front!

You just called someone a 20 year old, second hand car?

I suggest you need to learn English, before being issued with a keyboard.

lol, grammer nazi, how badass.

ToC wasn't with Vauxhall last time he drove at Oulton in 2011 so they must hire outside. They always have a great standard of instructors there from all kinds of top level motorsport. Last time I did this day I was coached by Chris Hodgetts, 2 time British Touring Car Champion and father of Stefan Hodgetts who won in the Clio Cup at Thuxton this weekend (who was also coaching). They've had Andy Jordan, Paul O'Neill and many other top quality drivers there.

Grammar.

Pfft, real hot hatches are the good looking cars from the 90s.

Saying that, these are some of the better looking modern cars but I'd still much rather go for something older.

Good deal too but shame the tracks are a bit far for me but heat anyway!

Show me a teenager who can afford to run (I'm thinking mainly insurance here so am assuming they're legal) a VXR and I'll show you a rich teenager!

I dread to think how much it would cost a sub-20 year old to insure one!

As for the deal, same price as a half decent karting event but with a lot more speed. Seems reasonable to me.

(Although I'd prefer a DWYB day and take my own car along instead ....)
