I took apart a Dyson v6 the other day to fix it and replace the brush motor, Dyson was made like a toy, there all pants, just plastic pipes, but yes they do do the job, but massivley over priced.
120W motor vs 350W for the Dyson V6 and 300W for the Shark Duoclean.

Like a toy compared to the Dyson.

True, but there is no point in buying a "Mini" to do what can only be done by a "4x4"??

If you want high power for low cost then corded is still the only choice.

So much negative rubbish being talked here about Dyson. The extension tube is mainly aluminium, not plastic. No one else can match Dyson for power output of their cordless motors, so they are ahead of everyone else in their tech.

Anyone who reckons that you can't get powerful suction without a cable has clearly never tried a Gtech Air Ram. Sadly the portable Gtech cleaner is pants though, so I would be curious to know if this one actually does the business
As others have said low powered vacs tend to simply be a waste of time and money. Dysons cost but they do actually do the job.

Alternatively if you want a really cheap yet moderately effective cleaning device get a dustpan and brush.

Your dad sounds like a good old guy!

Seriously though what we need is actual experience.

I just replaced my old hoover smarpets 2000 watt hoover with a 700 watt amazonbasics and the new one is 500% more powerful and better in every way even though the new EU regulations means we can no longer have motors over 1000 watts is seems the power is not all that!

What we need is a real life comparison between this and Dyson to really see how it performs but from my experience of opening up the motors and using Dysons they arent all that and certainly not worth the price you pay for em!

According to the 560 reviews on Amazon and Which it is a very good hoover!

which.co.uk/rev…ght

I just bought a Dyson D6 replacement motor for £19 and its just as good as the one in my customers Dyson!
What are you paying for then - lots of nasty plastic!

Let us know the comparison when you've tried it, be good to know.

I had a Dyson a few moons ago, never ever again.

Currently the proud owner of a Hoover Alyx Pets 2000w, bought it on sale at Tesco a few years back - still sucks like a dream!!

This is just total crap.

P
OP is quite clearly stating they believe this is a "great alternative to a Dyson cordless".

Regardless of your thoughts on Dyson's this won't do even remotely the same job with this puny little motor in it.

It is in no way, shape or form a "great alternative". An alternative, maybe - but an absolutely crap one.

Its a hard one but there are 560 reviews on Amazon from actual users who say its a good buy.

For the price i think it would be worth it for old pensioners (my next door neighbour has it and says it has been a godsend for his back and wallet) but personally i would never buy a battery powered hoover i have always preferred corded and powerful which you will never get with these things.

Out of curiosity, what material do you want the pipes to be? Plastic is lightweight and durable, hence why its also used in other industries. You can't expect to pay a lot less just because the material is plastic. You've also got a motor in it, a battery and many other parts. A lot of design and development goes into it. You can't make one yourself for less than dyson charges for them.

Rubber would be a better bet and not easily melted if it is vulcanised like the old hoovers of yesteryear!
Sometimes old is good!

I used a Dyson a long time ago and from what i remember it was very plasticky and hard to manoeuver also did not have any rubber bumpers so the plastic edges took great chunks and scratches out of the skirting boards and it was terrible on tiled or wooden floors.
uhhh...link says 650 quid now. i guess it expired and grew toxic
That's not a Hoover.....

I have this. Bought it off amazon for 70£ a few months back.
I've got only a Henry to compare it too. Like many, I bought this as I couldn't justify spending dyson money on what would only be used to clean toddler mess.

The pros;
Light weight
Easy to monouver
Charge on full power lasts about 30mins.

The cons and why I returned it;
The motorised head keeps getting wrapped on hair and is hard work to free all the hairs when cleaning it. I'm talking shoulder length hair.
Doesn't pick up thread out string off carpet.
Cleaning the bin can be messy.
The suction is a bit weak to make any of the attachments useful.

I may bite the bullet and maybe buy a xiaomi or something of gearbest.
