Amazing conceptions by some people regarding costs and value.
I have one friend who absolutely swears down that "everything is double the price" in Waitrose, but has yet to step in the door.
Their fresh meat and fish counters offer very good quality for the price, with good reductions as the day goes on. You can often find the forgotten meats, like ox cheek or skirt. Slow cook these and you get fantastic flavour.
I have even had 30 day aged beef, normally about £36 per kg, down to £6 per kg because it was the remaining chunks off the bone. Makes a good, if not decadent, stew

Yes, we've seen that lately and been doing a lot of shopping there and we also had a book full of £10 of £50 shop and used them all. We find we tend to enjoy everything we buy from Waitrose , rather than buy a shop full from some of the popular names and not particularly look forward to it . (edited)

Thanks OP. Definitely some good prices to be had if you look past their more premium ranges. Their basics are often as cheap, if not sometimes cheaper than the likes of Tesco/Lidl. Quality is certainly way better.

Can't wait to see some of the comments here though

Pretty sure that new butter prices matches M&S now which was already one of the cheapest block butters available right now.

This certainly makes me less put-off going in now as the premium is slightly lowered!

My nearest Waitrose used to be full of shoppers each afternoon. These days it’s almost empty.

Oh, I say. Will this mean anyone will shop there?

Urban proletariat will be flooring the place and why not so watch out! (edited)

In every shop some bits are good value and quality but other stuff are not nice. I find their essentials honey nut cereal quite good, as good as crunchy nut but in M&S it is awful.

Remember to use the my waitrose app, sometimes get good discounts. (edited)

Thanks for this op. I'm over the moon they've started dropping down the price of their own cheese.

If you use the app remember that the offers overlap on a Wednesday. So every other Wednesday I shop there with 4 offers to use. Don't think the whole John Lewis/Waitrose set up has much of a future sadly.

I don't understand what you mean by this? I thought you could only use 2 vouchers a week that the app gives you?

Should have an interesting impact on some parts of the supply chain. The whole chain is being gouged shockingly throughout the Western world, was talking to someone in Australia today and found a ginger beer made in Queensland is 20% cheaper here at Tescos than it is on sale at Woolies in Oz. Their supply chain is being so heavily gouged they are paying twice what we do for some things; Canada is even worse it seems. If the UK heads back to actual competition in the supply chain it might drag some prices back down a bit, no idea how long that will take though. Not sure how long they can keep the coupling of electricity pricing to gas pricing either, guess that depends on the GotD and how afraid they feel.

just a heads up regarding Waitrose personalized offers. From 1st March selected lines cannot be substituted, for example newspapers. I saw a Waitrose memo saying this was due to some people abusing the system. In the past if you had a voucher for say two pounds off toilet rolls, you could use it to get money off anything! If you had voucher for free Times newspaper, you could pick up the Sun & still get $2.50 off your shop. Sadly no more

Is it only newspapers that this would apply to? Will you still be able to use the personalised off anything?
