A contemporary retelling of H.G. Wells's seminal classic, Steven Spielberg's sci-fi thriller reveals the extraordinary battle for the future of humankind through the eyes of one American family fighting to survive it.

Ray Ferrier (Cruise) is a divorced dockworker and somewhat less-than-perfect father. Soon after his ex-wife (Miranda Otto) and her new husband drop off his teenage son Robbie (Justin Chatwin) and young daughter Rachel (Dakota Fanning) for a rare weekend visit, a strange and powerful lightning storm touches down. Moments later, Ray witnesses an extraordinary event that will change all their lives forever. A towering three-legged war machine emerges from deep beneath the earth; an ordinary day has suddenly become the most extraordinary event of their lifetimes - the first strike in a cataclysmic alien attack on Earth.

Ray scrambles to get his children away from this merciless new enemy, embarking on a journey that will take them across the ravaged countryside, where they become caught in the desperate tide of refugees fleeing from an extraterrestrial army of Tripods. But no matter where they run, there is no safety, no refuge: only Ray's unconquerable will to protect the ones he loves...

COuld have been a great film.......but wasnt

I was wondering if anyone would say that.

But this is still a really great price for a 'watchable' film.

Enjoy!

I rented it via Lovefilm, so for free it was great! I know that Tom Cruise gets flack, and rightfully so, for his beliefs but MI:3 was also pretty good. Much better than Casino Royale, in my opinion.

I don't know about this film... When I think that my money is probably being used to promote the cult of scientology, I just find that I can't bring myself to buy anything Cruise related.

Still, if you don't mind that, £2.99 is a steal

South Park, season 9, Episode 12:whistling:

I also think this is a crap film, but can't really grumble at £2.99.

I actually thought it was quite good!! Good price at £2.99 :-D

war of the worlds is my reference DVD for bass moments

I really liked it. Goes a little flat in the middle somewhere, but I found that overall it was a very credible Hollywood Blockbuster.

I liked this film too, got the 1 disk version for £2.99 a while ago from a WH Smith sale, good deal.

i really liked this film watched in the cinema then on dvd. sounds really good on surround sound system.

You could give this away and I'd still say no.
