I second that.

Why would they intentionaly want to make the film look poor?

Maybe because, apart from some of the special effects, it is a poor film in my opinion::p

It's the way the director intended it to look - artistic license if you like.....

It's like Saving Private Ryan...it's grainy and gritty purposely to help convey the period and content of the era.
