I've not actually played this.... i've read some really good reviews, but would appreciate somebodys opinion on what the game is like if they have the time to post.

Thanks,

Jin.

There was another pack a while ago which included the 3rd expansion pack. I've only played the original and 2 here though, so am probably ok to comment.

Original - good fun, some nice twists from the red alert RTS model, good learning / challenge curve. Very playable

Winter Assault - a new race, but not half as much fun. Didn't really get into this one at all. Game didn't get the challenge level right for me.

Dark crusade - just started, odd campaigns which feel more like a series of single battles, no real story in between. Better than winter, worse than original.

Obviously doesn't include the latest expansion pack, but this is an excellent price for one of the best RTS titles in recent years along with its two expansions. Well worth a look if you don't own these already and like your strategy games.

Great game, also a bonus that this doesn't use the annoying "steam" setup like the new version.

I bought the third upgrade which has 3-4 additional races over the first two expansions. Excellent game and much better just to buy upgrade 3 if you already have the original. I've borrowed and played the expansions but they aren't particularly engaging.

While the single player campaigns are good the real value in this game is the multiplayer aspect.

Still a lot of people playing this online!

Superb game, Winter Assault has an excellent single player campaign, Dark Crusade's is also good but less plot based and more like the Risk boardgame.

Disagree a bit - Soulstorm only adds 2 races (Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle), and I personally thought Dark Cusade and Winter Assault were much, much better (Tau, Necron, and Imperial guard are all better races than DE and Sisters). Still good though, think it can be picked up for about a tenner these days,

These are great games, each slightly different but with their own merits.. personally i found winter assault to be my favourite.. but that might be my afinity with the Imperial Guard and finally being able to use the Baneblade! and Tau as a race have some great units and open up some slightly different tactics.

The whole game series, including the latest DOW2 is well worth playing and, for me at least, never gets old!

At this price, snap it up!

Just to warn you I could only get one of the discs to work on this as the copyright protection kept on wrongly believing I had some copying software installed on my computer.

Oh and it's not that great a game (a bit simplistic) even though I was a 40k fan many years back

I huge addict here for DoW. I even bought the DoW2 which frankly is absolutely rubbish compared to the first one. This really is stunning game and far and away a better game than its sequel. My rating: 5/5

P.S: Thanks for posting.
