A good contender for GOTY at the moment and the PC version will likely reflect the next gen console editions on a decent spec machine.

Be warned that this will most likely use UPlay (booo), and not Steam or Origin (if you're that way inclined).

Ignore Zavvi's release date as there is more chance of Jupiter colliding with the moon than of this coming out next month.

Release Date: 05 April 2013

Watch Dogs (stylised as WATCH_DOGS) is the feverishly anticipated and highly ingenious game developed by Ubisoft Montreal, who are best known for their widely and critically acclaimed Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed franchises. Watch Dogs is stylised as an open world action adventure game, and depicts an innovative style of gameplay that revolves around cyber crime, all in a very large scale setting.

The game is set in an alternate reality in the city of Chicago, Illinois, which is one of many cities that features a super computer known as a CtOS – a Central Operating System that controls almost every piece of technology and possesses almost every detail of information on the people within the city. The game revolves around the premise that everything is connected, and that connection is power, which leads us to Watch Dog’s protagonist, or perhaps even its antagonist, Aiden Pierce.

Aiden Pierce is a highly skilled hacker who possesses the ability to hack into any device linked to the CtOS, and then use it as a weapon; gameplay centres on Pierce’s talents to hack into various electronic systems, either to obtain information or control a particular device. The information that Pierce can divulge about a citizen is incredibly detailed, including their health, criminal record, medical history, bank history, and even their probability of violence.

Watch Dogs boasts a perfection fusion of cutting edge technology and innovative, sophisticated game design, resulting in a realistic and living massive open world. This is enhanced by the player’s ability to fully interact with a 3D map of the city, which offers the player the ability to control it, giving the term open world new meaning. Controlling the city can range from manipulating traffic lights, to tapping into the city’s security camera feed, and everything inbetween.

Information warfare is raging, and you as Aiden Pierce may be the only person capable of coercing and controlling every element. Nobody knows who runs the computer that the city depends on, and you must utilise every means at your disposal in order to take down a corrupt system. (Cat Emerson)

Ram 1gb? Seems a bit optimistic really I've pre-ordered.

Watch dogs and GTA V are the only games that are not part of my no more pre-orders rule.

I'll very likely cancel this one before it comes out if a better version or retailer comes along, but this is a decent price at this stage.

This is an incredible price and I really can't see this being beaten!

Holy ****. Hot Hot Hot.

Not Really. Consoles have a bit less ram than that.

What has that got to do with anything? this is not going to be a direct port and will be on the next gen consoles.

Although its supposed to be out on PS3 and Xbox 360 it's been touted as a show piece for the PS4 which is totting a rather impressive 8GB GDDR5. I imagine it will look horrid on current gen console and low spec computers.

Most likely will be around the £21 mark at greenman so I'm holding out for now! Hot deal for the time being though

Do GMG sell digital Ubisoft codes?

EDIT: Sorry, I've just noticed that they do, e.g.: greenmangaming.com/s/g…ii/

Ubisoft can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to the PC.

I would say that to match the next gen console versions, you will probably need an AMD HD 6 or 7 series at minimum. Probably not worth bothering otherwise.

It's possible that I may need to upgrade my own processor for this because I'm on an FX6100.

The PC port will be based on the next gen console version.

The PS3/360 versions of this game will look like Eric Pickle's ****.

This should get really hot in here! Amazing price. Can't wait to get it on PS4 =]

Wrong. All demonstrations of Watch dog have running on a PC. No footage of the PS4 version is available.

Just my personal opinion, based on my previous experiences, but I would avoid UPlay at all cost. I signed up to download Assassin's Creed III, downloaded the game 5 times and the install failed on every one, this included 2 downloads on different machines. The following day I had an email from them:

Hey Sabrina, It looks like you recently made changes to your Uplay … Hey Sabrina, It looks like you recently made changes to your Uplay account. For your protection, this notification has been sent to the email address associated with your Uplay account. Our records indicate that you changed the following information: •Email address•Password•First name•Last name•Gender

I had to go through a lengthy process of reclaiming my account. In the time it took ubisoft to respond, the 'hacker' had tried to buy multiple games on my card.

What part of what I said was wrong?

Ubisoft Montreal and Newcastle have been developing this with the next gen consoles in mind. The version shown at the PlayStation meeting and E3 2012 was likely running on a PC but has first and foremost been tailored towards the next generation console hardware because that's where the big money will come from.

I ideally want it on PS4 because of the whole UPlay thing but I think it will probably be difficult to find the PS4 version below the £35-40 mark at launch.

All games are designed on the PC therefore the original assets are on the PC, those assets are scaled down on console hardware. There is no way the PC version won't look as good as next-gen console versions.

The PC version will probably look the same, if not possibly even slightly better, than the console versions on the right hardware but most developers tailor their games to the console specs these days because they have to really. The only recent notable exceptions to this that I know of were Battlefield and Crysis but I can't stand either of them or Origin in general for that matter.

Is the PC version scheduled to be released at the same time as the console version, or is there going to be a GTA-style year's delay?

low price sure but for a low quality platform, voted cold.

The inferior ps4 version will probably cost more.

Hot!

I'll pass I think. If I can get this to activate on steam I'd get it but I don't want to risk it activating only on uplay. I'll probably end up getting this on PS4 for that reason alone.

atleast we wont have hackbots online so thats where the premium goes, stopping cheating scumbags ruining the game for everyone else.
on the inferior PC versions you dont get that. It will be hacked inside out within a day, possibly even before its officially launched actually.
Edited by: "fps_d0minat0r" 12th Mar 2013

Same price on the The Hut obviously with code AA10 (same parent company).

Incidentally the PS4 uses x86 / DDR5 PC architecture so a lot less work in porting required.

Also Ubisoft already stated that the lead platform for Watch Dogs is PC so they will be porting to consoles this time around. Based on this we can expect a simultaneous release or PC first followed by console ports (unlikely due to economies on marketing).

Totally agree, UPlay causes more piracy than it defeats IMO.

No it's late 2013 for sure, they said so at the press conferences. I don't know why zavvi would put that unless it was filled out ages ago.

Code doesn't work for me?

How are Zavvi with pre-orders? I've heard from some that they come late. Either way I'll hold out until it's closer to the time.

rozza38

Code doesn't work for me?

It was 24 hours only, ended last night at midnight, guess the deal needs to be expired now.

Great price, hot deal for sure... but personally I'd never pre-order something that could be so far off, and this doesn't even have a release date yet.
