Thankfully with the PC being open to modders, these things always get found out. I think I will wait until this is a tenner though, Uplay puts me off enough to warrant anything more.

I take it this activates on uplay and not steam?

It says on their site "Platform: uPlay". However, even if you bought this through Steam it would still require UPlay on top of Steam.

It's the best price probably, but I still think it's overpriced atm. I will wait like others for it to hit £10-£15.

Might as well save some money and just import it as a non-steam game I guess!

Crap game ! Got it on ps4 too

I thought the game on PS3 was decent enough and worth the money. I quite like the online tailing of unsuspecting players going about their campaign missions was entertaining. I don't agree with all this DLC nonsense though.

Excellent game, loving it! I don't have a PC but have it on PS4 and it's great - though the graphics aren't quite next gen, more 1.5 - but this is a great deal, especially as you PCers can tinker with the mods and upgrade the graphics.

I thought it looked very good on ps4 too, just kinda bland colours so you weren't blown away :L

There's an update though:

Update: According to Rock, Paper, Shotgun the actual mod has some problematic performance issues and doesn’t look as good throughout the city as some of these screenshots might suggest. This may be a matter of more tinkering needed, or it may be a good explanation for why the game was whittled down in the first place.

The mod was updated to version 0.7 last night which fixed the performance considerably. Working great now on my system, but still not quite E3 level graphics during the day. I've been keeping an eye on the console versions and they look the same, very bland and last gen.

Rumour is that Ubisoft are starting to tone down PC graphics to keep in line with the already considerably weak consoles.

Only time will tell I suppose.

I'm very worried for the division after seeing what ubisoft has done to the pc version of watchdogs. very disappointed

Yeah, I think by the time this drops down to about a tenner, the game will be patched more together with the graphics fix being fine-tuned as well. There just isn't really any incentive to buy on launch anymore let alone pre-order, better to wait for a price drop and the game to be patched. Less headaches on day one then.

How did you install this mod? I downloaded it and it copied the folders into the installation directory as directed but nothing has changed as far as I can tell. Then I modified the XML file as per the instructions and again, nothing happened. Not sure what I'm doing wrong

Lots of people saying that performance is the same if not better. I wouldn't go on one reviewers opinion also its not a "mod", there is no modification to the game - like ICE for GTA for example.

I installed by extracting the downloaded rar file into the Data_64 folder (or something, not on PC at the moment).

The settings must be on high or ultra in game to notice the difference I believe, as well as the xml requiring edition to 'ultra' quality.

The effects of this mod are also much less apparent if you play with Depth Of Field off too. I play with DOF off as I believe it looks stupid. This mod is also matched well with Sweetfx.

Same stance I take with games now. It's less frustrating having to put up with the inevitable first day/week/months problems. As soon as a game is stable it would have dropped dramatically in price so a good saving made.

By pre-ordering and buying games within the first couple of weeks lets publishers and developers get away with creating unfinished games as they go with the attitude "they can patch it later".

Agree, but this game was supposed to be a showcase of what 'next-gen' was capable of visually. It failed at that and the gameplay/open world ideas we're left with don't live up to the hype either.

Worth £20 though

Have to agree with those disappointed with the graphics - but then not many 'next-gen' titles have wowed me in terms of visuals yet. Watch Dogs plays (and for the most part, looks) distinctly current-gen (I guess?).

Having said that, I had a lot of fun playing it. It's worth £20.

Have to say it's more likely a case of them turning things off having tried them and not liking them so much/impact on performance etc.
I hate DOF too and i'm not really impressed by OTT bloom etc. It's a good game and I had great fun playing it and got a lot out of it so no regrets from me. Dynamic headlights look nice though.

This is a better video:

polygon.com/201…emo

That said, performance is a mixed bag for me even with SLI which is far more annoying.

You're right, graphics aren't everything, but when a publisher pitches a game at the biggest gaming event in the world and doesn't deliver on (what we only have to go on, which is graphics) the presented game then it does bother people especially when those hidden graphical settings are revealed not by the publisher, but by a member of the gaming community.

It makes it even worse when they swear blind the graphical fidelity has not been watered down from showing subsequent gameplay trailers.

Who said it was that?

It's on 360 and PS3 for starters ;0

UBI's history with PC ports is risible, performance problems which are never addresses, bugs never patched - hell they had one game which would crash randomly on newer GPUs and they took over a year to fix it!!

The fact they might have spent 10 mins making sure this at least WORKS on a PC is a step forward for them ;0

Generally I have to say i'm pretty happy with their ports - the AC series, Far Cry etc have all been pretty much spot on - I think Ubi makes some good games but that's subjective to say the least. Certainly their not any worse than others in bugs and much better than some.

They had some daft moments re: piracy but since have been on a better tack on PC - I sincerely hope that the motivation here was based on how the engine performed or how they felt things should look versus gimping it. FC4 looks yummy.

Knocking out features was implemented to stem the tide of moans about glitches in performance from system to system (in my view). I would imagine it went through extensive QA, they were deadlined of course, and had to release, regardless. So hobbling the physics engine was prudent in light of the issues they were aware of. I would also suggest that the patch has been in development for a while now. I couldn't say that for sure, but having worked in the industry for a while, this can be the case with AAA games.

The Watch_Dogs E3 2012 presentation was all about the graphics, that's why everyone is so p*ssed that a game looks noticeably worse than it did in its unfinished state 2 years ago

Edited by: "BurtBird" 18th Jun 2014

Bought this game a few week ago, absolute ****. The driving sensitivity is shocking and shooting is basically like he has no bones in his arms. Terrible generic story line and graphics aren't all that good. 3/10
Cheap if you like it anyway. Heat added.

You're mistaking PC gaming for console gaming. We can have best of both worlds. Who said that we can't have stunning graphics and gameplay for a AAA game at the same time?

Graphics are one thing, performance is another, this game blows on both.
