Seen this as Lidl, thought a great bargain, usually £2 odd. Smaller watermelons although admittedly.

Edit: Since found out this is per kilo. Seems it was a bit of getting carried away, and a bit craftiness on the behalf of Lidl. Usual practice of charging PER watermelon, they decided to switch for smaller watermelons and charge PER Kilo. The 82p looked like it was paying for an individual watermelon. And yes the watermelons do not taste so great, but hey it's one of your 5 a day! Apologies for anyone else duped by the deal.

Awful price & Awful Watermelons.
Most of the british people have never even tasted a proper watermelon.. these are just naff..and are nothing like a watermelon!
Get some from Russia/ Ukraine/Moldova , they weigh about 15-20kg each and are the best things you can get, when in season I think they cost like 5pence per kg over there.
I have no idea why they don't import them here ,perhaps because other importers would go bust if they started bringing those in..
I think you will find its per KG.

Sounds complicated for Lidl
82p a kilo yesterday
Yesterday was definitely 80p per kg which worked out more than £2.65 which is what it was before the “special offer”
these are the smaller melons, they are £0.83 per kg, the larger ones are fixed price. It seems to me they will be approximately the same price per kg, just a personal preference for sizes. My mum would always recommend larger as it's sweeter but you need more people to eat it.
It's definitely per kilo...just bought that watermelon this Tuesday...and it wasn't that tasty
PER KG. NOT GOOD PRICE 😏
They're expensive everywhere at the moment. Around March they were £2 for huge ones in Tesco.
Hey they aren't the cheapest but the last few I have bought from LIDL have been delicious. Would recommend at ordinary price.
Bought some, fresh and sweet, good buy
Tesco watermelon great, lidl was soooo red I was expecting it to taste as sweet as sweets but no, just rubbery taste
Bought one yesterday, worked out at £3.30 odd....
These things weigh a ton , price per kilo will have very little change left ,

One of neighbors spotted and told me. I rushed to my local and found out it was 82p/kg and Mellon cost 3.48.
Well bought it to pay for effort getting there
Came back home and cut it half to see pale and white from inside, still didn't give up hope, 1st bite and taste horrible, straight back to Lidl and asked for refund.
Very annoyed

It is per kilo, and the way this "deal" became hot is another example of the ignorance on this website.

Yeah ok mate.
Can’t beat a good pair of melons!
Asda melon very sweet and £3
Fake deal still getting heat reported nothing happens must be earning money for the site
I work for Lidl, can confirm that this is the price per Kg. Confusingly, we have larger ones at a fixed price also available... Another one of Lidl's 'great' ideas.
The tastiest melons are at Costco.
It is not such a great deal. Before that price was £2.65 per watermelon and I got really massive one for that price. Today I paid "special offer" per kg and paid £1.98 for tiny watermelon. Not a deal then for me

turkish shop had quite big one. not that heavy but big enough to be sweet and red enough. They let me buy half which was like 2-3 that small one.
If you live in places like London or other bigger cities you can go into these Turkish shops mainly selling food from Turkey and eastern Europe, thats where you want to buy your watermelons, they're usually much better than supermarket variety.
Just threw 1 to the bin bought last night, never eaten a water melon taste such sour !🤧
Do not buy one from the Woolston, Southampton, branch. I cut it open within 5 hours of getting it home. It was so dry inside that it had split internally. Not a drop of juice wasted because there was none to be had.
I took it back for a refund and the manager blamed "stock rotation".
Good value.

More watermelons than extinction rebellion.

Listen the simple fact is we have big Apple's Banana's even Melons that are imported but the big food industries buy them all to put in ready meals or packed fruit, anyone who has worked for bakkavor or similar food processing factory can tell you of tales of the big sweet red Apples that you used to get in most supermarkets and the huge stalks of Asparagus but apart from market stalls which are almost as bad as the supermarkets everyone sells the last crap or early late crops.
