Both. The software you use will handle which drive you are cloning. I've used easeus todo backup before with success.

Thanks,I had wondered if the docking station itself had the cloning software built in,guess from your comment it doesn't.
I can see for the price quoted but when I get to check out it asks for normal price. Do you have to have prime to get this price?

This may be obvious but this will only clone successfully if the DESTINATION drive (e.g your SSD) is the SAME or LARGER size than the SOURCE.
PS. God price. Review look real.

Anyone on here point me to some useful guides to use one of these to convert a hdd to a VM image? I have drives from various machines I've had down there years that is like to have as vms.

I have tried a few guides on the past but not had any success, so something someone has done rather than just googling and firing links at me would be very much appreciated, cheers.
Good price - i paid £26.39 recently for Inateck version of the same thing.
Back to full price
I thought it was a toaster at first ......lol
Do not put this next to the toaster, you'll end with bread in the docking station and a harddisk in the toaster.

Surely that depends on what software you're using. Is the device not a simple USB interface to a drive (in this case 2 of) and all the work done in software on the host machine?

Just read reviews and it can clone drives without a host computer.

No, the button at the front controls the clone, and the dock will on its own. I have a variant of this and have ran a few standalone clones on it. Very handy. Currently have 6 drives running, 2 on the external dock, so it works well if you ran out of sata ports.
